Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Check the hose running from water pump (rear of engine) to front - offside- there is a junction with a small length of vertical tube and a bleed screw. This often leaks. IIRC the first gear on an auto is slightly longer than that of the manual box so it will feel sluggish in comparison to the manual, yes on a 3.0 v6 it wont feel that way asthat has the power to get through the gear easily. The only thing you can do is look to bring the torque curve into the lower rev range.

My previous Xantia's washer bottle/pump could easily be seen by looking under the front of the car, the pump is simply a pull out gently affair, not forgetting the leads and pipes.
Be careful with the pipes, if the plastic is brittle, sometimes the plastic bit on the pump will snap off - new pump, but they're only a few quid anyway.

Were the small square rubber buffer pieces refitted? Without these the engine mount flexes excessively, and would fail again in a very short time. Other than that, was it oil contaminated? There's not much else that can damage that mount. I'd have another new one fitted, and be sure that the square buffers are in place, as well as the large cast...

Not found a loom, but if you go down the scrappy and cut the loom - with as much spare wire as possible - off a PH2 or 3, then wire it as in this post

Probaly not much help but me and my dad changed the intercooler on his synergie which is quite similar to the 806 the intercooler did just unbolt and lift out after taking off most of the front end including the bumper so maybe possibly the rad will just unbolt and lift out thanks Ayden

there is a normal cablt on it,only difference is it attatches onto a throttle potentiometer frather than an injection pump.not sure of the exact location on the 406.

It could be something stuck in the brakes. Try gently applying the brake when it makes the noise and see if it goes away (or just changes note)
I've had similar noises in the past which have turned out to be a wheel bearing. It seemed to run true, no play, no rough running, but when dismantled the bearing running surface looked like the grand...

1) no, they won't.
2) no type of wheel bolt will make them fit. If the PCD doesn't match, then you cannot use them. If you do try to fit these wheels, you run the very real risk of loosing a wheel at speed, with possibly fatal consequenses.

Are you close enough to the car for it to receive signal?
I think pointing it close to the windscreen near inside mirror may help. I also have a '92 405 - mines crap - I never bother using.
Also check battery strengh in key fob.

Hi guys,
Every couple of days or so my 406 multi function display tells me 'brake fluid low' when I apply the handbrake.
Brake fluid is fine. Recent discs, pads and sensors on the front, rears have been on a few years but were fine when I recently checked them. No leaks.

If it's the type with the removable front panel there should be two small slits that you have to push a removal tool into one at the top like this - and one at the side like this |.
Or you need to remove the plastic surround from the edge and use some removal tools in either end.

for some bizarre reason the do sit slightly lower one side as standard so quite often the can appear to be lopsided if say the fuel cell is full or there is something in the boot.
If it has become excessive then the bearings could of collapsed in the rear beam, cheaoest fix is to swap the beam rather than overhaul, if there is no play in the...

I have a pug 405 estate 1996 just noticed that 1 side of the car (rear) is quite lower than the other, anyone have any ideas what the problem maybe?

Can anyone recommend a good place to get peugeot spares (not GSF), either mail order/internet or in the essex area. After some relays and I have been quoted stupid price from Pug dealer and GSF do not stock them.

How do you check the tacho reading on a 205 1.1 1992 without a rev counter?
I have a Gunson's test tune which I use to use on my old mini but cannot figure where to connect the coil wire to get the reading off the LT circuit.

Recently after hitting an unexpected bump my speedo stopped working after investigation i found the the drive cable had twisted out of the black drive cog, so i renewed all this including the speedo gauge and still i have no speedo i would like this working by tuesday as im off to cornwall till friday then cambridge at the weekend so any ideas...

Never worked on 306 but my 2pences worth is:
If the priming bulb is sucked inwards that would imply that there is a blockage upstream of the bulb. Or that the pipes have become soft (as is often the case i believe with using biodiesel) and as such cant handle the vacuum. This in turn leads to the pipes collapsing giving you fuel starvation.

my 306 L reg has got a fuel starvation problem, it starts fine and runs ok untill it has been revved up, as soon as this happens sometimes the priming rubber bulb is sucked inwards and if it is driven for a while it will lose power and stops.
what I have done so far is change the fuel filter and blown down all the fuel lines to check for...

you need to remove the wiper arms & scuttle panel as the nuts that hold it in place are under there.inside just remove the ducting from it & unplug it,quite an easy job.

I just got mine from the dealer - specific stuff like that tend to be dealer only - dont know if there are any other places to get them - if you phone your nearest dealer with your model and year (maybe also chassis number) they will tell you how much they will be and if in stock.
Watch they don't fail completely - happened to my wife on the way...

What part number would these be? Its the bushes etc that connect the gear stick to the gear box. Very worn and gear selection is very baggy.

I have got a 2002 (52plate) Peugeot 406 2.0 HDI 90 Rapier. The problem I have is that it does not seem to accelerate very well. The accelerator cable was loose in the engine bay which I have tightened This has made pressing the accelerator pedal easier but does not seem to have improved the acceleration. I probably wouldn't have noticed...

The rubber buttons on my remote fob wore out and I managed to purchase a new case off ebay for about £7.

Having read many of the posts on key fobs it seems I'm the lucky one because it actually works.
My problem is that the two buttons on the fob have all but disintegrated. Fortunately the door locking button is still functional but the deadlock button wont operate.
I have since picked out the remnants of the small button exposing the white micro...

Yes,mine has a similar issue but its been like that for ages and been ok,im not to bothered because a new clutch is due soon i will see what its like then maybe change the cable aswell.

When i put my foot on the clutch to change gear the first bit of travel seems a bit sloppy or loose, anyone else had/got this problem?i think it has a self adjusting clutch (94 sdtd) any ideas?

In theory the carb may be too big for the little 1.1 engine, but its maybe worth a try! I did it on my old 1.4, it lost a little at low engine speeds if both chokes opened as the gas velocity slowed, but gained quite a fair bit higher in the rev range.
You will have to drain the coolant if you are changing the manifolds

On my recent auction purchased 406,I have just done 1500 miles on a round trip into France,and unfortunately,the rear horizontal link bars had to be replaced while I was there,as the old ones had expired.The idea was to get back to Britain and have the bars replaced here.Anyhow.....
The car still has a slight vibration to it,insofar as it lasts...

I have fitted Jamex front struts and springs from a gti to my xs and it is down at the front by about 35mm.
Don't just fit lower springs as they will kill the shocks in no time. If you can afford it, go for a spring/shock combo for the front.
The back is more difficult as it requires a lowering of the torsion bar. It is a possible DIY job, but if...

support the engine and its an easy enough swap, if you can try to support the engine in a mannr to avoid it tilting as well, they tend to swing out of place with the upper mount removed. If you really want to eliminate this problm get th group N mounts for a gti6 or MI16 engine.

My 306XTDT 1993 with 140,000 miles has started to rattle the body on start-up. Also occasionally on idle, I can feel the vibration. I notice that the rubber bungs on the engine mounting (timing belt side) are worn. Stuffing bits of rubber in the worn area has eliminated the start up rattle, and reduced engine vibration at idle. Not got a 405 myself, however if its anything like my 306 the fan relays (3off) are behind the frt grill. Remove this and you'll see a triangular shaped cover plate the relays are under here One black and two green.I think it's unlikely the fault lies here to be honest.
Well worth checking the earthing to the rad. The quick connect/disconnect...
