My trusty old 405 has developed a strange fault with it's Bendix abs modulator which runs all the time and can only be stopped by disconnecting the battery. I've disconnected both relays in the box adjacent to the ABS modulator - to no effect!
Any ideas?

Remember that the ABS system does only one thing in life :
It PREVENTS you from braking/locking a wheel under difficult road conditions.
In other words : you may happily, securely and safely drive the car, if you UNplug the ABS unit.
You will of course have the ABS fault lamp lit.
But the brakes will work 100% normal.
That may relief some of the pressure on you, while tracing the problem on your car.
I would check the battery voltage !
Most car electronics behave streange if the battery voltage is low.
The common problem though is a faulty wheel sensor or a broken tooth cam on a wheel.

Peugeot 405(Phase 2) TD ABS problem
Thanks for the tip Andy,
I've disconnected the stop light switch - but the abs modulator still runs!
Interestingly with the stop light switch disconnected and the ignition switched off the modulator starts running as soon as I reconnect the battery (previously it wouldn't run until I started the engine).
Any other ideas?

Thanks for your reply, I checked the battery voltage a liitle while ago and it was 13volts and the car starts OK.
