anybody have any inclination as to how to wire the glow plug relay?
i have 2 big wires for the plgs and to earth
four couloured wires going into the relay, but i cant find a diagram for it, to retro fit it to my van.
anybody help?

Hi -
In general terms :
a) You will have a single big wire running in to the glowplug relay as battery feed wire.
This wire is usually connected to the engine bay battery + distributor box via a MegaFuse as it must feed a heavy current in the 50Amps vicinity.
This is often a screw terminal on the glowplug realy, for a heavy eyelet terminal crimped on to the feed cable.
This terminal is likely marked B+
b) You will have 1 or more big wires feeding the glowplugs.
Either the old style "cucumber" line with 1 wire running to all plugs in turn.
Or a separate wire to each plug.
Even a combination of these 2 methods.
Each plug consumes around 10Amps.
Connection may be separate spade connectors or another screw terminal, often a smaller size than the feed terminal.
c) you will then have a couple of thin gauge wires for the control :
1) chassis earth for the box electronics
2) control (glow initiate) wire from ignition key
3) indicator lamp wire
4) any temperature sensor wire for sensing the engine temperature to compensate the glow time
depending on generation and model, you may have a couple extra control wires, i.e. "engine running" signal and "ignition on" signal.
There is no big wire for the chassis earth to the glowplug relay, as no heavy currents flow back into earth from the relay box itself.
The heavy current flows from the glowplugs via the cylinder head back to chassis earth utilizing the standard heavy earth wire on the gearbox.
