aftermarket tach, for my xud

Post by the jester »

i want to fit a tach to my XUD9 engine, its not in the 406 it cam from now

i was told to use the w connection on the alternator, but i dont see one
i have two ideas,

there was (I broke it) a sensor which looks like it senses the flywheel, or,
there is a cable leading to one of the injectors,

will either of these produce a signal i could use ?

is there another way?

thanks

Stop there ;)

There's a built in TDC sensor on every* XUD anyway its fitted on the top of the bellhousing with a length of wire and a two or three pin plug. On models that have no tacho the plug / wire is still present just usually wrapped around the oil filler / starter area.

Alternator speed won't always equal engine speed anyway. GM uses this method or they did, along with the vacuum pump being attached to the far end of the alternator too.

You need an XUD car tacho as the signal is tiny. The instrument panel has an amplifier in it I think.

Well the sensor just works off the ring gear / flywheel, you might be able to fix something up.
