We have had 3 users complain that they cannot login to the forum, getting an error 'submitted form was invalid'.
All have been using Chrome browser on PC or phone.
I will investigate it later in the week, but for now you should be able to login with any other browser.

I believe that this issue was triggered by people using saved links or bookmarks which point to www.frenchcarforum.co.uk. This was perfectly acceptable until a software security update a few months ago which now causes such links to be invalid for some pages.

The forum will now redirect the troublesome links to the equivalent valid page.

Forum not secure?

When firing up the forum on my laptop this morning I keep getting messages about it not being secure and an expired security certificate. Sometimes I even get a page advising me not to continue but I click my way through.

Something going on here or is it my system being hyper cautious.

This forum (and the BXC forum which runs on the same server) has been bombarded with requests from guest users using Vietnamese IP addresses. I noticed it yesterday and blocked several address ranges, but they have been even more prolific today, with a peak of about 5500 requests in one minute, which the forum database service could not handle.

I have relocated this forum to our backup server to enable a clean reinstall of the operating system on the main server. This is necessary due to a subtle problem with the networking configuration which I have been unable to track down.

If I have done it correctly, there should be no visible change to operation, but let me know here if you see...

We quite often get a lot of traffic on the forum from bot farms which are (apparently) trying to download all of our content. This is something that we just have to accept, and there are accepted practices for this sort of operation which allow us to control what they can access, but some of them are badly behaved and just pretend to be guest...

It appears that the account password has been hacked and a spammer has used the account to sent PMs to several of our users.

We have now disabled that account, and I have deleted the spam PMs, but cannot delete any notification emails that were sent.

We apologise for any inconvenience, but we have little control of this type of episode.

The forum was offline for a few hours while I was investigating an obscure networking issue that is causing unreliable connection for a (very) few users.

Sadly I didn't track down the issue yet, I am not sure if it is our software, or something in the KVM or networking configuration of our service provider.

I will be doing more work on this, but...

Just in case anyone thinks it's a Forum issue, there's a bug with the latest Brave Browser as of 8th Feb 2025 that can cause the mouse to disappear or odd cursor behaviour, including selection / pointer issues.

It has been widely reported and turning off Hardware / graphics acceleration may help.
