406 Hdi handbrake

Or lack of it I should say. I have fitted new drums/discs and shoes, the cable seems to be free, and yet you still have to nearly pull the lever out of the floor to get it to hold on a hill - any suggestions?

Thanks

do the outter cables have lumps, bulges in them, if so the outter cable is colapsing inside the plastic sleaveing,

the other option might be if you have not already tried, is manualy adjust the shoes up as far as they will go so you can just get the drums on, but without over bindding,

Thanks for reply

The cable seems to be free enough but I will examine it more closely, the handbrake wil only work at all with the shoes adjusted right up. The n/s had bedded in and will adjust quite well but the o/s doesn't seem to have worn at all and won't adjust any further, yet it was the nearside that failed the MOT :?

ok so the next thing i would do is with the drum/s off, get someone to gently pull the hand brake lever on whilst you whatch what the shoes do,

also does the cable compensator sit square/straight when the hand brake is fully on,

Done that Malcolm and both sets of shoes appear to be moving OK and handbrake comes right up, didn't take to much notice of the compensator but I think it was OK but I will check again. I did slacken the adjuster off a little as the linkage wasn't returning fully but it does now, the handbrake come up about 3".
