Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

I got an RAC technician to check my cars fuses and battery as the windscreen washers weren't working.. After he left the car's alarm went crazy and goes off randomly if I lock the car using the fob. The fob then doesn't work and I need to open the car manually with the key and switch on the engine to stop the siren. The clock also resets Everytime...

@ Viko: You'll probably find you need a new alarm module - Once the independent internal battery fails, it's the same as if somebody tried to cut the supply - it triggers the alarm. Although they last a long time, once they fail they will constantly go off as they cannot hold a charge for very long.

Those vehicles fitted with the Webasto supplementary heater clearly use diesel from the main fuel tank.

Does anyone know whether the car’s mpg readout take into account this fuel usage, or is it only the fuel coming through the main fuel supply to the engine ?

Any thoughts gratefully received.

About a year ago, my father had a small accident with my citroen C3.
As we had other cars, the car was covered in the garage for about a year.

So as an 'old bloke' I have looked with interest at the 'aux in' socket on the factory fit radio cassette in my Xantia phase one (SX) and have to admit I haven't got a clue what it might be compatible with ?

I am told you can purchase a 'portable bluetooth wireless transmitter' thingy from somewhere like Amazon and stream music but is this true...

The Socket takes a signal at line level or headphone level. You could connect it to a bluetooth adapter, although the cheap adapters I have tried were too fiddly and unreliable to persevere with, it may be easier just to run a cable from your phone headphone jack (if it has one).

so in the user manual of the C5 MY2010 it says one can select the unlocking of all the doors or just the driver's door, this option should be found in the confort menu, Plip action.

In my C5 3.0 V6 HDi (with all software updates done) this option isn't there, other C5's of the same period more or less don't have this option either!

Happy New Year, everyone!

As per title says, my beloved C5 has a major leak on front driver side hydro cylinder, basically I found a LDS puddle underneath the car. Checked visually, definitely the leak is coming from the strut. Found the replacement part online in couple of places, problem is sellers are not 100% sure if the strut they're selling...

Just make sure it's between the 'A' & 'B' marks in the post.

To bleed, again with the car on the lowest setting and on flat ground, just slowly turn the wheel lock to lock about 8-10 times very slowly and do NOT hold the wheel at either lock. Then return wheel to centre position and check / top up fluid to the marks above if required.

This is normally done with the proprietary diagnostic kit - Diagbox, but if you don't have the VCI hardware and the software on a laptop, it may be easier to ask the dealer to do it for you. They'll charge you diagnostic time to do it - circa £40-50 if there are not complications as it's only a 5 minute job.

The S1 failed the MOT and was classed as too dangerous to drive. I'll get a video of the nearside wishbone bush wear when I am able...

The offside suspension exhibits a leak on the offside (ie not engine side) of the bottom of the gaiter. Going up to have a look at it...

I have spent ages looking back through the old posts on this subject and i seem to recall that there was a relay mod to help with the voltage to the bulbs but cannot find it.
However i have spent the last few weeks driving the C5 and whilst i am not 100% happy with the headlights on it, the Xantia in comparison has candles for main beam :(

Hello all.
I need to get the timing belt done on my Berlingo Multispace but am not sure how many valves my engine has and I am being asked this question when phoning around
for quotes, as there are two versions of the engine. It may sound like a propper numpty question, but how do I find this out? It's a 2005 1.6 petrol engine 80KW max net power....

Hi guys I just recently noticed that my coolant temp is lower than oil temperature? Does this mean anything or is worth taken in consideration?

Hi. On my C5X7 2.0 HDI from new it was this way. First oil temp rised for 4 stripes than coolant started to catch up and bolth ended on 7 stripes. If pushing hard oil raised to 8 stripes, coolant always sitting on 7. Last few weeks takes ages to heat up engine. Oil comes to 1 or 2 and tjen coolant rises faster than oil. What is the process to remove this?
Got rust bubbling on the rear arches - both sides, but predominantly on the rhs.

Can it be grinded back and sprayed or does the affected area need cut out and replaced?

I think that, once the units are off the car, the base can twist to allow the orange bulb to be accessed and removed. That's exactly it. Remove the plug and then you can take the bulb holder out of the backplate.

Just make sure to tie a length of string to the cable first, just in case it should drop back inside the wing. An extremely good idea!...

I was thinking about installing a battery on/off switch on my C5 X7 3.0 HDi for those periods (like one week or more) when the car is not used or when the battery needs to be disconnected for maintenance on the car:

with this switch it's possible to cut off the power from the battery quickly and easily just by rotating the wheel without...

You shouldn't need to do battery disconnection for such a short period. If the battery is in good condition, the car ought to be happy to start even if not used for a month or so, maybe longer.
Another option would be to use an intelligent charger left connected, if you have a mains supply nearby. The CTEK range are among the best (and the MXS 3.8...

Yes, you'll find that in the fault log of all recorded occurrences of a fault code and the mileage. It helps with diagnosis as to when the fault was first picked up and can sometimes help work out when something may of been done on a car that unexpectedly resulted in the new fault. I.e when you took it to the dealer for a service! :-D

Been busy wiring a towbar in to my 2005 Picasso 1.6hdi. Haynes suggests there is a yellow wire for the right hand rear stop light however there are six wires to the right rear light, none of which are plain yellow? The rear brake light wiring is in Pin 4 either side. Don't pay much attention to the colours. Look on the connectors and they are numbered - although you may need an electron microscope and a lighthouse to see them.

Hi

I'm trying to retrofit the original ambient lighting into my 2011 c5. I have the original button, a 12v neon led and wiring diagram. :-D

I ran into a strange problem, but first i have to point out that i sorta got it working.

...as in 'normally' how many litres do you or can you get in?

i generally leave until light comes on & then fill, usually 60-65 l, depending on how soon i fill up.
most i've ever squeezed in was 68l with 2 pips showing on dash, squeeze bottom time :lol:

filled up at Truckhaven Carnforth, Esso fuel, not too sure how much remaining, maybe 30-40...

My girlfriend left the car doors open for a couple of hours. Went to the car and it wouldn’t start even though the battery was fine. Voltage was still 12.6.

It would turn over strongly but just nothing. Almost like the immobiliser was on. I locked and unlock several times. Then disconnected the battery for a couple of hours. Still nothing.

Is this a petrol or diesel engine?
If the engine cut out when running its not the immobiliser. Also if there was an issue with the immobiliser the dash would display something along the lines of anti theft system fault or immobiliser fault.
Has it restarted again since it cut out when running?

i have noticed that when i am pulling away from stopped and am turning either left or right there is a rapid knocking noise, this noise stops if i depress the clutch. it also stops if i am travelling in a straight line, i have not noticed it at speed about 10 or 15 mph or more.....however not sure if this is related but when travelling at speed...

Has anyone any useful views on Mannol oils, or has anyone ever used them medium / long term ? I see that you can currently get 20 litres of their PSA B71 2290 spec low SAPS oil for around £36-odd delivered via ebay and a discount code. That seems remarkably cheap :shock:

The answer is not the difference between low and medium SAPS but the difference between normal oil and oil which is lower in SAPS. Lower could be low or medium in this context.

It also has the auto-dimming/electrochromatic interior rearview mirror. If you leave it with everything off and doors closed until the ECU's shut down, just a few minutes before you disconnect it, then make sure you get a good connection first time when you reconnect it you shouldn't have to do anything.

This started last week, a 2006 Xsara Picasso, 1.6 petrol 16 valve. The temp gauge stays at zero, however there is coolant in the engine, it gets hot, the radiator is hot - the overflow tank is not, that stays cold. The car is driving ok, just yesterday I did a 70 mile round trip at speed with no problem at all.

We've fitted a Bosch pump on our 1.9XUD in a ZX Estate today. Wiring is the only problem. Would also like to know what these two bits of the pump are, what the purpose is etc. It was a Lucas but we have a few Bosch pumps in stock so we swapped the two- we'll recon and store the Lucas pump till one day we may use it.

If you are getting a good spark & it wont even kick with starting spray you either have a timing or compression issue. Check the valve timing, just because the cams are turning doesent mean the timing belt hasn't stripped a few teeth or jumped the timing. Make sure the crank & cams are correctly aligned.
