Xantia windscreen motor

Unread post by Hadmund »

Could I get a part number for a Citroen Xantia front windscreen wiper motor.

I'm pretty certain it's fried as I bumped into the wiper switch while the wipers were frozen stuck. I'm certain it's not the fuse as other things on the same fuse such as windscreen washers still work.

From what I've heard they're a right pain to swap out so if anyone has any tips on fixing it that would be great. I'm guessing there's no option of replacing it without taking the windscreen cowling off.

Hi Hadmund

From distant memory yes the scuttle needs to be removed and needs to be done very carefully.
I seem to remember it is not that difficult once you have the scuttle off and i think i re fitted mine and used windscreen sealant to hold it back in place.
If you have to remove the whole assembly the only tip i remember when refitted is not put the wiper arms on until you have operated the mechanism once or twice so it is back in its rest position, then you fit the wipers on the studs at rest and they should be pretty much back in the correct position and not wipe off screen.

95668914 ----------- FRONT WINDOW WIPER MOTOR

As above .....the scuttle IS very very delicate and will break if you are not ultra careful !.......they are held on with adhesive tape about 5cm below the top edge (unless people have been in there before).
A long very flexible blade will be the best way to get through these......DO NOT flex the VERY BRITTLE plastic scuttle or pull/flex it.....they are unobtainable and are most often already broken on scrapper cars.

It helps a lot if the car is very warm eg, a hot summers day (not really a good job in the winter...I know I know :) )....if you have the ability to keep the car in a heated garage overnight that will help as will a good hour of a fan heater blowing warm air over it for a couple of hours (do not melt it with a heat gun :) )

To reapply, try to use the factory method using a good quality thick factory contact tape on very clean surfaces and practice the refit method a few times before you do the final application.........silicon sealant is 100% the wrong material to use as are windscreen adhesives along the thin edge as they will prevent removal and a nightmare to keep in position until they set.

Note:
Some people (with RHD cars) Do use a thin bead of PU adhesive (do not use silicon !) along the thin screen edge to help keep water ingress/water dripping into the cabin via the air inlet.....not a problem for me with a left hooker......it seems sensible to do this on a UK car.

Note: I repeat ......DO NOT use a silicon product, it will not hold a bond to glass and is damaged by UV light.

Best of luck.
