Hi,
I've just had a new starter motor fitted and after I picked the car up from my indie mechanic, I noticed that the car had a lack of power (putting foot down to go uphill and nothing happens!) and really clunky auto gear changes. The cruise control has also stopped working and the engine runs on a bit after the ignition is switched off like the engine timing is out.
I've read online that all these problems could be caused by a faulty speed sensor.
I've just taken it back to the mechanic and he plugged in his fault diagnostic system and there was a string of errors, the main one being the engine isn't communication with the gearbox. I'm taking it back tomorrow for him to investigate further but thought I'd try and get some expert help here that I could pass on to him.
He doesn't think it's a speed sensor problem.
I can only think that something has been disturbed when he's fitted the new starter motor for the problem to come on straight after he's worked on it. Maybe a wire pulled off somewhere?
Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Ian

You need to have it diagnosed with Lexia / Diagbox and post the codes up here along with your VIN. Some of these issues will be the result of the car being put into a downgraded mode until the underlying issues are addressed. Once we have the codes we can give you some pointers as to the cause.

Ok, thanks Marc.
I'll ask the mechanic for the codes when I drop the car off tomorrow and get back to you.

Hi Marc, just picked the car up from my indie mechanic and the problem was caused by a disconnected vacuum pipe which must've happened by mistake when he fitted the starter motor.GiveMeABreak wrote: ↑04 Dec 2023, 17:47 You need to have it diagnosed with Lexia / Diagbox and post the codes up here along with your VIN. Thanks anyways for you quick reply!
