I'm having exactly the same symptoms. Your comments have been extremely useful, and the only place (including dealers) I've been able to find useful information.
I've a new brake switch coming tomorrow, and I'll see how that goes. If not, I'll be trying to find a workshop manual to trace the LIN wiring from the alternator to the gearbox....

Same experience when with Davie (back in 2017) when we were trying to get two new front tyres on the XM balanced in/around Inverness. One dealer had actually replaced his balancing machine with a new one, but simply said his centreless adaptor didn't fit it! That was alright, then.

Hello all! I am having alternator issues with my 2011 C3 1.6 HDi.
The question I have for you all is if it would be a problem to replace my current alternator which is a start stop version with a normal generic one?
If it is even possible for me to do so what could/would happen?

Update - since Friday the car did local journeys around Telford. We checked for leaks and the LDS and all was fine. My son drove the car back to Birmingham on Sunday night and it was fine. He's checking levels again before he returns to Telford tomorrow. I'm at a loss to understand where 3.5l of LDS fluid disappeared to, but I'm keeping my fingers...

I finally have a running c5. After 3 garages and several hundreds of £s on unnecessary parts the problem was identified as water ingress to the loom around the ecu/ fuse box area causing shorts and throwing up fault codes everywhere.

Cartier Coolant Level Sensor (it'll probably start 1306.??)

Replaced the broken catalytic converter. it was broken and badly sooted up. The car , when cold, has a flat spot in second gear, for a few seconds. Then it picks up and out pours loads of black smoke. When the engine is warm, it runs lovely. is it the fault of the broken cat? if so, will it clear itself of this lumpy, smokey running? cheers Terry....

Was able to fill in 4 litres of antifreeze and it's not topped up at the max but somewhere in between in the header tank.

Will now drive the car for a few days so the whole coolant settles in at top it up at 50/50 dilution.

The colour of the coolant is now much better, not ideal tho. Perhaps next year I'll get an air compressor with a tool to...

Many thanks for the advice the mechanic is saying the leak is coming from the cam box ? which makes me think, does he mean the bearing ladder? i have since heard reports he has bad rep for being expensive and even not doing the repairs properly i have a few more mechanics to try recomended by pals of mine.

OK the fault in question apparently on affects vehicles with an RP number range between 10736-10816.
Yours is well before this so may just be a failing sensor. on the affected sensors the pins are known to oxidise & cause a poor connection.
Try & see if you can replicate the fault like i said by carefully wiggling the sensor connector.

Yes, both good points Paul mentions:- the engine ECU will not know you have cleaned the DPF as it uses the weight of the additive that has been dumped into the filter over the miles. It does not use the differential pressure sensors alone to trigger the warning. So cleaning the filter is akin to replacing it - and the engine ECU needs to know this...

The reason is because they will have a guided procedure to follow using the official diagnostics (something that another garage will very likely not have). They need this to generate a report for a claim against the manufacturer of the power steering system. So nobody can tell you the outcome of this until it is done.

The tackiness can be swatted with an application of talcum powder - but try a small area first, in case any whiteness doesn't disappear. Just remembered we had the same issue with a grey 'rubbery' pair of binoculars, where talc did work well. Yukky stuff.

If you have replaced the engine ECU then you also need to configure that correctly - there are various parameters that need configuring to match your specific vehicle option. If we knew you ere going to do this before you actually did it, we would probably of suggested that you record all the configuration information down first from the old one...

That is my understanding, too. Late-type (H5 iirc) ECUs need to be initialised with the vehicle type: XM, Xantia, or Activa. This operation can only be done once, and is not reversible. I think I read that the units were standard (non-Activa) XANTIA by default. I don't have the procedure pages, I'm afraid.

I have an older Lexia unit (you will need to have a laptop computer to use it) that I got from a company called Easy Diagnostics. It is NOT cheap (nearly £120 for the equipment), but as a dealership can charge £60 (or more) per diagnostics session it can very quickly save you money. You may need to get the S1729 module elsewhere (as it seems they...

These trims are not painted from Citroen - so have to be primed and painted - so you may need to find a matching trim from a breakers yard. You may also need some trim clips as these break off easily.
