Ds5 check engine repair needed

Unread post by JamieLeeWV »

Hi guys. Had my ds5 1.6 auto serviced by Halfords last week (I know [-X ) so not sure if related.

Quick history it currently has 94k on the clock. I brought it last year with 88k on the clock from a reputable dealer. It came with a tonne of paperwork with all the work it's had done to it (timing belt and water pump changed at 67k, new battery etc) so I can see it's a car that's been well looked after.

Not been an issue since I had it last year, however after turning the engine on this morning I had a message saying 'engine fault repair needed' and the service light came on. There seemed to be a large squeaking sound from under the bonnet, turned the engine off turned it back on again and the message and service light didn't reappear.

Took it for a quick spin round the block and it seemed to drive fine no loss of power etc.

I've been out in it since approx 20 min drive to the shops and the message hasn't reappeared or anything and driving fine, could this have just been an error on startup? Do these things happen? Or is it something more serious potentially?

I have a friend coming round to plug in a diagnostic tomorrow so I'm hoping its nothing serious seeing as it hasn't come on since?

Anyone else have any experience of this? Thanks

First avoid Halfrauds, they really don't have the same training.

It may be a coincidence, of course, but keep an eye. Sometimes it may be emissions related, but have it scanned (preferably with Lexia / Diagbox) and pop any codes up here with your VIN.

Until your diagnostic check I would have a quick look over the things Halfords have done including checking the oil level. If the engine management light did not come on a basic code reader might not come up with anything.

Yeah I'll have a look at the oil levels after work today and get back to you. I'm hoping it is just an error in the system as it came on once then didn't reappear after restarting the engine

Ok so my friend plugged in box and got one code,

U0103 module A.

My vin is VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]

the light saying engine repair needed hasn't come on again since yesterday and it only came on once, so not sure if it's serious or not? Or something to keep an eye on?

You have not reported any of the symptoms listed for this code, it could be an old one that has never been deleted. If your code reader does freeze frame data make a note of it and also if it gives how many miles the car has done since the code. You could then delete it and see if it comes back.

It is always worth checking the battery voltage and have a listen around the alternator belt area in case the drive belt / its tensioner are on their way out.
