Ds3 d sport starting issue

Unread post by Ivebrokeit »

Hi all

I’ve got a 2011 ds3 d sport and as I was driving it lost all revs and would not restart.

The engine turns over for 2 seconds then stops trying.

The codes present are

P0016
P0087
P0500

I have checked the belt and it doesn’t appear to have snapped.

Anyone have any ideas what it could be?

Also can someone help me get the engine code for this vehicle too please?

Thank you

Here are the fault descriptors.

Just be aware cheap sensors are one of the biggest failure points (even new), so make sure you use a decent branded part.
Fault Code: P0016
Description of Fault: Synchronisation: Incoherence between the information from the engine speed sensor and the camshaft sensor.

Description of the diagnostics:
Loss of synchronisation between the camshaft sensor and the engine speed sensor.
Conditions of activation of the diagnostics: Under starter
Conditions for Fault to clear:
  • 10 successive starts
Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active:
  • Irreversible deactivation of the vehicle speed curbing function
  • Reversible deactivation of the vehicle cruise control
  • Reversible deactivation of the vehicle speed limiter
  • Sending of the information "torque uncertain" on the CAN network
  • For a gearbox with engine speed regulation (automatic gearbox or piloted manual gearbox), limitation of the torque sent to the gearbox
Symptoms:
  • Starting problem
  • Absence of automatic stopping of the internal combustion engine (If the vehicle has the Stop and Start system)
Suspect Areas:
  • Camshaft position sensor
  • Camshaft pulley
  • Engine speed sensor
  • Engine speed sensor target
  • Timing belt
  • Electrical harnesses
  • Connectors

Fault Code: P0087
Description of Fault: Fuel circuit: The pressure measured in the injection rail is less than the setting.

Description of the diagnostics: The measured pressure is below the reference value by more than 9% (For 1,2 seconds).
Conditions of activation of the diagnostics:
Engine running
Conditions for Fault to clear:
  • Driving for 5 minutes with several full load accelerations for 10 seconds
Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active:
  • Closing of the EGR (exhaust gas recycling) valve
  • Irreversible deactivation of the vehicle speed limiter
  • Irreversible deactivation of the vehicle cruise control
  • Deactivation of taking account of the tight spot information
  • Switching of the turbocharging pressure regulation to controlled mode
  • Switching to fuel "normal reduced flow" mode
  • Sending of the information "torque uncertain" on the CAN network
  • Switching on of the warning lamp and/or warning message Warning lamp MIL
  • Warning lamp STOP
Symptoms:
  • Jerking/stalling
  • Lack of power
  • Starting problem
  • Slightly higher fuel consumption
  • Fluid leak/smells (diesel fuel, oil, etc.)
  • Cutting of the vehicle speed limiter
  • Cutting of cruise control
  • Difficult to engage gears
  • Noise
  • Engine acceleration at wrong time
  • Smoke from the exhaust
  • Absence of automatic stopping of the internal combustion engine (If the vehicle has the Stop and Start system)
Suspect Areas:
  • Poor quality of the fuel or type of fuel
  • Air leak on the fuel filter
  • Clogging of the fuel filter
  • Leak in fuel circuit (low pressure)
  • Blockage on the low pressure fuel return circuit
  • Fuel high pressure flow regulator
  • High pressure fuel pump
  • Pressure sensor on the fuel high-pressure injection rail
  • Leak on the high pressure fuel pipes
  • Leak on the fuel high pressure common injection rail
  • Fuel injectors
  • Electrical harnesses
  • Connectors

Fault Code: P0500
Description of Fault:Intersystems CAN: Speed information incorrect or absent.
Description of the diagnostics: Information not received or received invalid by the engine management ECU on the CAN
Conditions for Fault to clear:
  • Driving for 5 minutes
Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active:
  • Irreversible deactivation of the vehicle speed curbing function
  • Irreversible deactivation of the vehicle speed limiter
  • Irreversible deactivation of the vehicle cruise control
  • Sending of the information "torque uncertain" on the CAN network
  • Switching on of the warning lamp and/or warning message: Warning lamp MIL
Symptoms:
  • Jerking/stalling
  • Lack of power
Suspect Areas:
  • Engine ECU
  • Intersystem CAN network

Do all those error codes come back if cleared?

Yes, this is a 9HR engine code, so a Euro 5 DV6C engine.

It would be worth checking the readings of the engine speed and fuel pressure in live diagnostics to get a better idea of what is going on.
