Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Our Citroen Xantias suspension is bouncing around all over the place, the car bounces so much now that it is dangerous so we have stopped driving it and ordered new front and rear spheres.

We now need to fix them in, and here are the problems!

Our car is non hydroactive and we are not sure whether the posts on here relate to hydroactive or non...

We have had our Citroen for several years now and the fan stopped working about a year in and since then no matter what we have tried we are only able to get it to work intermitantly and lately it will not work at all!

Anyone had this problem and managed to fix it?

Any help or advice would be gratefully received.

Hi all please can you help, I need a few pointers about cruise control, the car is a 1997 V6 Xantia. It has stopped working, fuse No 6 is supposed to be the one and it is OK. Hi all,

The other day I bought a '96 Xantia SX 2.0 16V estate manual with 87000 miles. Since this is my first Citroen, I have a few technical questions:
- Brakes: I've noticed that when slowing down, the brake pressure smoothly fluctuates, which makes for a very unpredictable stopping distance. Is this normal? If not, what's causing this?

just got back off hols and just finished 250 ml journey. Car is a 1996 Xantia 1.9TD with AC. Had a roof rack on with luggage on way down to Isle of Wight and mainly did speeds of about 70-80 mph as an average for msot of way.

The brakes on my daughter's Saxo 1.1 Desire are not very good. I want to upgrade them.

I think the existing brakes are Bendix calipers, the calipers on the VTR/VTS are ATE/Teves.

I'd like to fit the VTR calipers, but , looking at the pictures in Haynes it suggests that I'd haveto change the hubs because of the fixing holes not being compatible....

Although giving a bit more clutch clearance may improve it, if its only on third its a worn synchro ring and theres not much you can do about it short of taking the gearbox apart.

as some of you know well i have harsh suspension problems, last weekend i bled my brakes, and i got no air out of them, i used a long length of clear tubing (maybe about 5 meters worth in the hope of bleeding back into the resevoir). Hi again people,

further to my recent post about a noisy turbo, i've worked it out, it's lack of backpressure due to a hole in my exhaust.... guess where.... yes u got it, a crack/flaking all round just before the pipe flares up towards the catalytic converter. Damn I say. I'm hoping I can get my friendly exhaust guy to patch it up in some way...

Hi I am fitting my new drop links (A Roll Bar) to both sides, (front) to my Xantia TD Estate P reg. I have removed the old ones using mole grips.

When fitting the new ones the nut just spins the bolt around. How do you tighted the nut without the bolt spinning?

i would have thought for the lower joint you will need to put you jack under the anti roll bar right beside the swivel pin nut leaving enough room to get your socket onto the nut,and the top one has an allan key slot in the end of the swivel pin as it is not a tapperd pin like most swivel pins are

I took our third car, the Xsara, for it's MOT this morning. I'd previously given it new discs and pads, back and front, an oil and filter change, and for several weeks, a good dosing of Redex in the tank. Daughter does a 50 mile commute in it every day, so it does get a thrashing, but I was still disappointed to find that it just scraped a pass...

Hi People ,

Just wonderd if any of you guys would be able to help with a few probs im having with my xsara .

The car seems to be misfiring !!! When it gets hot it seems to missfire and sometimes even stall .

Driving my '94 M plate xantia 1.9td home from work the other day, the RED light of doom flickered on and off.......... :(

I made it home and left it for the night. I went to have a look at it the next day and found a nice puddle of LHM underneath....

To cut a long story short, I found a leak. It is coming from the drivers side front sphere...

Had that when the car was 56,000 km old.
They silver soldered where it was leaking and removed the clamp that holds the pipe to the inner wing to allow flexing of the pipe over more length.
I also stuck a piece of sponge between the pipe and the inner wing to prevent chafing.
The car has clocked up 163,000 km now, and it’s still holding out.

The best test is to drive it somewhere without using the brakes and stop again without using them and then see how hot the front one has got.

Under gentle braking the back ones should join in and do about 50% of the work. Heavy applications will bring the pressure relief system into operation to prevent rear wheel locking. All is affected by load...

I need to to both of these jobs. I am guessing that changing LHM first and then the spheres is better than the other way around.

Alternatively is there any problem with draining, changing spheres and then refilling (assuming I can do all 8 spheres in one session)?

all the spheres i buy for myself and my customers that come to me in AMTEC boxs always have this advise slip in the box,im not saying i always clean the system as i belive it depends on how clean the fluid is to whether this needs doing

Does the Xantia have the same kind of pin outs that we have on the BX to extract fault codes from the ECU??

If so, can anyone tell me where I find the plug to connect to and also where I find a list of fault codes?

With the oil prices raising, the government of my country is studying the posibility of distribuiting an ethanol-gasoline mixture (E-85 I think is the name). Does anybody know if it can be used on my ZX without any danger?

I am in the middle of changing my glow plugs, so far i have done the 2 easy ones starting from the gearbox end.
Now comes the 2 hard ones.

What tools will make this job a little easier?

Careful of a little add-on piece that attached to the engine very close to the first plug behind the pump which has a small coolant pipe attached.

I snapped this and ended up having to find a replacement from the scrappers, starting the car allowed all the water to gush out of this area.

I am aware of a couple of others on here you have also...

Strange question I know, but have been trying to find a replacement aircon switch for my Xantia for ages.

Does anyone know if its possible to use another switch and just replace the front - or even have two of the same switch on the dashboard.

The heated rear window switches are everywhere, and that just turns it on and off, same as the aircon....

Just had a new head gasket fitted now a week later it has started to leak water from down the back of the engine, with out crawling under her just at the moment any ideas??

Hi,

How do you adjust the gear linkages on a Xantia Hdi 110 engine?

My xantia is getting increasingly difficult to get into reverse gear, and I think that the linkage is the cause of my problems. When it's in 5th gear, the stick almost sits in the centre (where neutral is) rather than pointing forwards. And I struggle to push it far enough back...

Which is which when it comes to the sensor connections on a Xantia td (1.9td '96 estate)?

I have identified the following;
Glow plug temp control - rear of fuel filter, genn conector, 1 pin
Temp guage probe - front of fuel filter, blue conector, 2 pin
Air con fan trigger - front of fuel filter, brown connector, 2pin?

guys,

i have a concern about my turbo... it seems to be whizzing a lot more than usual, before, you couldn't make out the whizzing until it started up at about 2000rpm, but now i hear it spinning up at about 1500rpm, all i do is touch the throttle and it you can hear it whizzing, on top of this i can hear it whizzing when i decelerate at low revs...

I have owned a number of these cars and turbo noise has been different on each, my brother had a Volcane TD which sounded like a two tone siren :? My current Xantia has a pronounced whistle, my old BX turbo uset to sound loud on cold mornings, I would check the exhaust though.

I've just bought a 2002 1.6 16v xsara vtr and the clutch pedal seems to have a very long stroke, its a fair amount higher than the brake pedal. Is it possible to adjust it like on older TU series engines, I've done this on my old 205 and 106 with the nut at the end of the cable.

Does anyone know how long the travel should be?

Clutch pedal is supposed to ride much higher than the other pedals.
Citroen clutch pedals in general should have a ride height of some 140mm above any carpet/mat level.
You might want to get it lower. Do that and have a clutch replacement prematurely - at your own cost :twisted:

i finally got round to doing them today, i did the front left and it started raining, so i will do the rest tomorrow, i assume if there was air in the system and it came out (even a tiny bit) from the front left it would help? maybe it's just me thinking but the car seems better? what do u guys think, am i just thinking it?

One thing I can't get my head around is this; When the car is fully laden, yesterday for example it was up to the the roof and you can fit a lot in the estate :lol: I noticed that there was no real difference in ride quality. you are correct with observation about doubling the weight. If we somehow put 1600 kg in the middle of the car (= additional 400 kg per wheel), there won't be enough pressure on the regulator to raise the car from the bump stops to the normal height

I have used the overflow pipe from the top of the LHM tank filler cap before. It is a perfect fit, suitable for LHM and can be put back when you have finished.

well the activa rams weigh a good 15kg each so theres 60kg before anything else, pump is a good few kg and before you know it it starts to really add up!

I have a Synergie HDi, just recently the battery warning light has started coming on at anything below 1500 rpm. Above this engine speed everything is fine. The car starts instantly without problems and there are no signs of the battery being low, even though the battery is over 5 years old.

I would concur. The 'on charge' voltage should be 14 volts +or- a little bit, even at tickover, if it isnt the alternator is faulty. Do check the belt tension though, because even if you can see the alternator rotating, it might not be running at full speed.

I'm thinking about buying one of these. Have seen one, but whats the MPG like? I'm guessing at aroung 25 urban 30-35(maybe) on a run?

My xantia is good with the exception of terrible fuel consumption. I believe its around 3-4 miles per gallon less than what it should be. All the usual things have been looked at, it has flown through the emissions on 3 mots (inc one last week) so im happy it not lamada related. Also brakes are spinning fine, filters all new. No fuel smells...

I have checked the sensors now, when the engine was slightly cooler and sure enough the reading have increased on both sensors by around 400 ohms, so guess there are doing what they are supposed to- i wanted to be sure the variation of readings was acceptable- obviously it is then.

Yes - time (lock) the engine before removing the pulley.

Try use a couple of minutes bending up a piece of 8mm rod - smartly enough to reach behind the starter motor and into the timing hole.
You local hardware store may have threaded rods in 8mm - perfect for making up a timing tool.

The xantia has developed a problem with the heater control temperature slide.

when i slide anywhere from 18 to 26 ambient air comes out. When i slide it right to the warm extreme (i.e. past 26 to the very end) suddenly v hot air comes out. It the same with the air con-except it comes out cold on the cold setting.

I can also hear the ‘buzzing'...

In this weather (I assume that you're in the UK), I wouldn't expect any heat except at maximum setting, as the cabin temp is probably well over 26C anyway - that's the point of climate control :wink:
However, the aircon should of course kick in instead to lower the temp, so there's clearly a fault of some sort.

My flatmates ZX has had a 'wobble' (felt thru gearstick, and causing major sideways movement of the car) It was slight, when she got the car.. it only happened under load, esp on Turbo in 2 3 and 4th gears.

after some time, it has become very very bad. , with the wheels off the ground - there is no movement there, suspension arms are...
