Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

I thought I was being lucky!

After a front wheel swap, side at a time, at the front last friday my steering suddenly sorted itself out - I had sieze'd UJ joint syndrome, and been quite bad..

Last friday though it dissappeared after fitting front wheels... and I thought BRILL! that's that sorted.. and its been fine till last night, when suddenly...

I find it difficult to believe it's the UJ, if it comes and goes. Sounds bit more like a hydraulics or steering issue, though I'm not very knowledgable on that side of things. Hope it's not too big a problem.

As an aside, in the old days when I had my BX DTR Turbo, I had an intermittent heaviness/stiffness in the steering. Replaced the steering...

Just a general query on wether to buy the twin electrode or 4 electrode spark plugs for my wifes Corsa ? Which one is value for money with regards to cost/future replacement/ efficiency?

Or ist down to personnel preference.

I'd go the twin electrodes. Cheaper, and for a DD without performance mods there's no real gain likely.

Planning a trip to France in the near future and as wondering if I needed to put some headlamp convertors onto my C5 (2009)

Non Xenon,

Read loads of conflicting reports, some saying that you need to get a letter from Citroen to say you dont need to use them !!!!

i'll be using 'old skool' tech....Black tape or some bits of vinyl i've got lying around...up against a wall and sticking where i 'think' it won't dazzle, at least it looks like you've made an effort :)

at least with the old C5 you can use the fogs with sidelights, not much worse than blanking the dipped ones and it still looked like dipped were...

starting problem on xantia 1.9 TD (1994). On turning the key no dashboard lights glow up, no heater plug light, just the parking light glows. on further turning, the engine turns but does not start. I have deduced that most likely cause is humidity in fuse box that causes bad contacts. Because when it was not starting, i checked that the appropriate pin in the engine starter ECU unit was not getting the signal. I followed the wiring diagram for that.

Hi all,

I'm getting a Serious suspension fault error on the display, big 'X' over the car height graphic if I use the height adjusters -the car is (fortunately) in the middle/normal position so is still driveable. The pump doesnt activate when I open the door/s but the no8 (40amp) maxi fuse seems ok. Any ideas guys? I want to sell the car doubt I...

Perhaps removing and replacing the fuse did it, a bit of corrosion limiting the current.
The blade fuses can develop hairline cracks that are invisible to the naked eye but won't pass current, perhaps flexing it has allowed it to work for a while.

About 2 months ago i bought Xantia 2.0 HDI Activa (80kW, RHZ engine) - more or less is running fine...but :mrgreen:

I have this random thing with the clock/thermometer display in the Xantia dash fading away. The lighting stays bright (when the lights are on) but the LCD display can completely disappear then fad back in again. Sometimes it resets to 0.00 time and 1/1 on the date. Not always on starting but sometimes! :?

My wife's old L reg Peugot 106 diesel has finally bitten the dust(see tale of woe thread) and it's going to be replaced with a younger version. Probably this time it will be called a Citroen Saxo. I've been looking, but haven't found where to get one of the bits in the attached photo?

It's the key bit from the C5 key fob (here: onclick= window.open(this.href);return false;)

There seems to be loads of other key bits for loads of other Citroen key fobs on that site - but no blank blades for the C5 key fob. Or, is it possible...

Wasn't clear - yes, have the fob in bits and Lexia to reprogramme - I just didn't seem to be able to locate a blade bit that looks like the one that comes out of the fob (with swivel).

So, I just drill those holes out and a new blade ( onclick= window.open(this.href);return false;) should just pop in...???

Hi Folks My daughter has an 09 C4 and when she jumped in this morning the heater fan was not working. All had been well till then, she swung by the Citroen main nasties and they immediately started talking costs in telephone numbers.
Can someone give me a list of what to check bearing in mind she hasn't even opened the bonnet yet !

While changing oil, oil filter and the air filter today I noticed a bit of water in the bottom of the air intake box so took the opportunity of checking the MAF plus I'd already noticed I have intermitent loss of power going up steep hills, have to cog down into 2nd while other times fly up in 3rd.

I sprayed the MAF with switch cleaner and wiped...

OK went to do the parasitic draw test on my C5, i couldn't have gotten a good connection on the negative terminal, and the alarm started going off...
getting no response from ignition atm, what should I do?

The Swedish insurance company Folksam have conducted their own survey that examines actual crash results rather then those in the video above and although a lot of cars seemed to be in reasonable accordance with NCAP testing, others didn't.

The C5 came off very well, particularly the facelift and most recent models that scored very highly.

Hi folk,

I need a bit of Xantia wisdom.

My engine management light is on all the time, but does clear at 3,200 revs only.
This happened at the time my aux drive belt started to shred, and which I immediately replaced.
The engine appears to be more noisy at idle.

I run veg oil. I ought to lok at the fuel sender unit too , to seee ig it is...

@Citrojim Thanks for the tip. Unplugging the Needle Lift Sensor, at idle seemed to make no difference to engine note, but it did at 2 000 revs.

Could the outlet from the fuel filter be partially blocked? I noticed some fuel debris in there.

I think I may need a lexia on this.

Does anyone know which bits of the C5 and Xantia 2.0 Engines are interchangable - items like turbocharger, intercooler, starter, alternator, induction piping etc..

It looks like Rattiva is going to the great Citroen yard in the sky. Her wheels will go on RUNN, which will be having new discs, pads, and a aircon belt tensioner fitted....

Zohar, how many miles has the car done? In Europe Citroen recommend the LHM fluid is changed every 36,000 miles, and on the third change (108,000 miles, and every third change from then on) a hydraflush cycle is done to clean out the pipework, etc. I don't know if that would be the same where you are, but (unless somebody knows better) lets'...

What is the function of the Hydraulic Circuit Safety Valve ?

the function of the safety valve is to give the brake circuit priority over the suspension circuit,

the hydraulic pressure feeds straight through the safety valve with no restriction at all, and the pressure has to build up enough to open the valve before feeding the suspension,

it also has the main pressure switch that puts the STOP light out...

Well the big beast has coped well so far. Some decent snowfalls up here and the C5 has managed without any dramatics. OK, I've not tried to force my way through drifts (yet) but all seems well with 5 or 6 inches of snow in car parks, and three or four inches or so in my street which is a cul-de-sac on an incline. Seen a few low gear wheel spinners...

Btw, how much does an insurance cost for your car in there? Here in Finland it´s about 750€ per year with all reductions.

Ouch. I'm 39 and I now have a clean licence. It costs me £322 for my 2.0HDi C5. I'm changing cars on Thursday to a Subaru Impreza WRX STi, and that's only costing me £430!

Are they all the same from 01-06 ie hatch and est, are the same

Can I have them folding if just fit the switch, or do need diffirent ones

Anybody know where i can source a used one cheap? Got a faulty high presure fuel pump on a 2.0 HPI C5 (Mark 1), these are apparently prone to going on this engine and i do not fancy paying the new part price of £700 :(

On early (circa 1990) Bosch equipped xud turbos there was a timing advance mechanism on the front side of the pump. Whilst some were mechanical and some were hydraulic (on later models circa mid '90s) they were there to advance the timing a few degrees for cold starting.

That's the later type Jim, yes, the ones that look like a stop solenoid.
It's the Lucas pumps that use the wax stat combined with an electrical contact to both advance timing and increase revs.
The Bosch, uses the same waxstat for increased cold idle, but had a separate 'device' for timing advance, be it coolant/mechanical or...

I need to change the battery on my HDI soon. As it's not possible to de activate the alarm without a lexia, what do you do?
Or is ear ache inevitable?
Any precautions needed?(I don't mean earplugs)
Is it possible to change the battery without interrupting the power supply with a third battery?

I would like to change the immobilser code on my 97 xantia diesel, as it is getting harder to input one of the numbers. Can i do it myself ??? Does anyone have a guide on how to do it please?

Probably not, as that is for an S2 Xantia, using a radio link to the car. IIRC earlier cars used infra red to link (but I could be wrong).

Specify the C5 one as a Xantia/XM one won't fit, the C5 spheres are larger. Removal and refitting are more or less the same as the Xantia except you have to depressurise the system which involves some plastic pipe and a container, although when you do the front ones the bleed nipple is quite near the fluid reservoir so with a short length of pipe...

Going back to the time I had my first BX and Xantia in the late nineties I used to use an outfit called 'Citroen mobile' who as the name suggests offered a mobile service, servicing and repairing Citroens, I had some spheres and cambelts done by them at reasonable prices.
They were based I think in Northampton but did come down to London fairly...

i have a newer shape relay van (2007) with central locking issues.
The remote has 3 buttons, 1 to unlock the 2 front doors, 1 to unlock the rear and side doors and 1 to unlock everything. Both unlock buttons work as they should, however when i try to lock the van nothing happens except the indicators flash 10 times ? is the 10 flashes a code...

Recently I have a phenomena that when I driving at very low speeds ( 12 MPH ) the engine seems to hesitate when the gas pedal is pressed. It feels like the engine is not responding. The fuel consumption of the 1.6 is pretty good already, unlike the 2.2 so I don't really see the need to remove the DPF, I topped up the Eolys fluid in my 2.2 in about half an hour and for a cost of about £40.00 for a litre - from ebay of course.

I am trying to drain my fuel filter of water, etc. but can't seem to find the hand pump anywhere!! I have a citroen c5 2.0hdi 2001. if the hand brake is not holding the car on a hill you should not adjust the cables up till you know the caliper's are adjusted properly,

these are meant to self adjust in normal use but usually require added help, with the car on level ground ( garage forecourt ) or the likes,

Will be doing oil change soon and recently read about running an oil cleaner through the engine and how this will extend engine life and improve performance. The garage told me before that these cleaners were a load of pointless pish . I would like to keep car tip top so does anyone know whether this would be worth it?

Mmm, I still think it could be the belt, 5mm is neither here nor there on a belt of that length, I shortened mine by somewhat more than that and although its OK now I suspect if it stretches/wears it will start slapping again.

Following a recent failure of the suspension pump motor, the mechanic has fitted a secondhand pump and ECU. The first ECU would allow the suspension to rise and fall, but would not switch off the pump. A replacement ECU has now been fitted, which does switch off, but now the suspension is stuck on maximm height and wont come back down. The...

Is this an led or bulb and if so is it easy to replace. Advice sought.

Under £2.5k, preferably a bit less
Cheap to insure as it will have three young named drivers on the policy

Hi my wife's c4 1.6 hdi. 2005. Suddenly lost power whilst driving along at about 30mph. She said it seemed to make a wurring noise as it happened. The car still starts and drives, the auxiliary belt is intact, there isn't any smoke and the coolant is there, also no warning lights on the dash? Any ideas where to start?

Sounds like it would be best not to drive, you may cause the turbo to completely fail and enter the engine, not good.

It's only meant to be light hearted and a joke with the Carsino theme - sure it's a bit of a shame a few BXs have been used up (although one will be sold on apparently, having used three cars). IMO it's only metal at the end of the day, they weren't particularly rare BX models (OK still nice)...
