New to Citroen early models

Post by patanga »

I'm considering buying an early GS Club and as I'm new to Citroen's was hoping to learn from others about the model's foibles and practical use as a daily driver. At this stage I haven't settled on a specific year model but any advice as to problems and or weaknesses in the body, driveline, electrics and brakes would be greatly appreciated. Areas of note regards rust would also be of interest. Any advice on parts availability throughout the range would also be appreciated. Thanks

In a few words - look for rust, rust and more rust especially around the rear end, subframe, floor and mounts. Most parts available. Some are expensive. As a daily driver? Hmm. Economy isn't great. Other than that I can't see a problem if you are prepared to keep maintenance up and keep on top of rust issues.

Ah. I didn't realise the OP was down under. Rust may not be an issue then - there was none on my Greek stepmum's 1978 car when she sold it in 1995. That had spent it's life in Athens. Interior was getting tatty from the sun.

I imagine parts might be more of an issue there than here and some would have to be shipped from Europe.

Addo would be the person to ask, or ask on the aussiefrogs forums.
