'Tis my first post on here, so please be patient,
car started up, and went into fast idle but didn't come down to normal for about 30 seconds or so.noticed that the speedo "zero" was a horizontal line in both units and tens.speed doesn't read, mileage doesn't change Avge speed has gone to nought, distance from/to fillup is constant(frozen), every thing else, temp radio, fuel gauge,
warning lights are fine.
diagnostic man said gearbox speed sensor, fitted new one, no different. I tried a shortcut and got a replacement speedo cluster from a scrappie,PSA numbers matched,
I thought £20 was worth a gamble. all that did was change my 87k ish mileage to 102k+ so it is not the cluster.
it MAY be the BSI.......have done all the reset stuff, and have invested in a new battery anyway, the old one was a bit past its best and bad batteries (so its said)can cause all sorts of problems
So has anyone any ideas on this please.....
Bob
I broached this problem on the other site, but nothing came out of there......
Thanks...

Welcome Bob
As Malcolm says, try and get one of the members with a Lexia to run a diagnostic for you, saves endless trial and error attempts to fix the problem.

Two things to check, have a look for any signs of water ingress to the plugs on the injection ECU if that looks clear try unplugging the radio & doing a BSI reset. Problems with the radio sets can cause this (the dash panel is the radios 'master' ECU) & the 2 main things I've seen causing this is kids posting coins into the CD player slot or those silly liquid air fresheners that you clip onto the dash vents leaking down into the radios. Amazingly when both of these things happen the stereo functions perfectly.
