Turbo whoosh

Hi lads car started whooshing last night on the way home 03 c5 2.0hdi would it bearings or loose or broken pipe help

Probably a split pipe. Check the big rubber one the comes from behind the engine over the top and to the intercooler in front of the radiator...

will do lads thanks for replies i was afrsid it might be kaput turbo do they give much trouble on the 1st generation hdi

No, not that I'm aware. They're not under much stress and there's no problem with the oil system. It'll likely be a split pipe, but check the parts of the pipe you can't see - i.e. the underneath, as this is where my Xantia had split and it wasn't obvious at first. I looked everywhere, including getting under it and checking the pipes on the turbo. It was split on top of the engine, but on the underside of the pipe. It sounded very obvious when it whooshed - like someone was operating a massive fan behind the dashboard

I've got two, one in a 406 with 231,000 miles on it and another on a C5 with 200,000 practically all original.

The engine has 100000 on it I replaced it last summer but the turbo has 187000 on it as new engine was bare
