My Xantia has the high biting point and heaviness that usually suggest that your clutch clip is at risk and you could do with replacing the clutch.

However, yesterday as I was driving in traffic I depressed the clutch and felt a click or graunching sensation, and immediately thought 'oh feck, there goes the clutch clip' but yet seemingly it was...

Xsara bonnet release catch

The bonnet release catch won't turn on my wifes Xsara (non Picasso).
The release mechanism inside the car is OK, just the one under the bonnet that won't turn.

Anyone with an early Xsara (1999) could give me any advice or send picture or diagram?

Try a workout on the bonnet giving the catch mechanism some motion.

Have your wife pulling the in-car release handle, while you firmly press down and release the bonnet repeatedly.
Should not be that much effort needed.
Make sure you apply hand pressure such you dont dent the bonnet bodywork !

PS : make sure to lube the mechanism once it opens...

OK, you can all laugh at this one.

I swapped front brake rotors and pads the other week at a mate's workshop.

Before realising we needed to crack the bleed screws, we'd wound in one side until it leaked LHM past the handbrake actuating post .

Subsequent to the brake job, the initial startup/pressurisation is taking about 50% longer before the...

Long time lurker here with a S reg S2 Activa that I'm trying to coax back to good health.

Just fitted a new hydraulic pump and HP pipe and had to take the Bosch engine management computer out to get the pump out.

Hi All

Taken in a Xantia TD 1993 L reg WITH ANTI Sink, 208k and in amazing condition for the miles however, with recent spheres fitted all round (by myself too) the rear arm has developed a VERY VERY nosy rear arm when you bounce the back up and down, couple of weeks ago it had a VERY loud CLICK from the rear, then a day or so later it went, now...

Sounds to me like a transponder problem - the chip in the key not being recognised so the immobiliser locks the fuel pump.

could be the connections from the aerial in the ignition lock barrel to the ECU.

There are a fair few posts, some quite recent, dealing with just this problem, have a bit of a search around.

Unidentified rear suspension component

My old Xantia Estate has failed its MOT because of an LHM leak. It's a 2000 SX HDi with standard anti-sink suspension (i.e. a sphere on each corner plus accumulator and anti-sink).

This picture isn't the actual car but you can see the part in question. It's the gold-coloured component below the anti-sink sphere. It is leaking around the black cap...

Walked down to my car after work and the suspension was sat right down at the back. A pool of suspension fluid under the middle of the car and trailing down to an adjacent rain water linear drain gulley. Not so good for the fish in the adjacent brook! :cry:

I've left it there and plan to look tomorrow. The cars on flat concrete in an underground...

He spoke to the local Citroen dealer who advised that he has replaced three of these pipes last year, so seems like this is a common problem on C5s.

Cue a nice opportunity for the Indies to make a bit of a living from re-piping them, just like in the heyday of the BX :roll:

Hi i have a w reg berlingo van and it had a faulty Bsi so i bought one from the scrap yard but it was from a newer model and it had software version 8.2 where as my original had a 8.1.
Once fitted my mileage went from 90k to 149k on the clock and the van wont start as if it has an immobiliser stopping it and a key light comes up on the dash.

couple of problems, Firstly, no intermitent wipe on the front windscreen, it won't work. I've replaced the stalk with one out of another xantia and stillit won't work. Is there a relay for this somewhere??

Also, ABS isn't working, it runs it's checka nd the ABS light goes out suggesting all is well, but then locks up under heavy...

I'd have thought that what man put together man could take apart, but so far no luck. Trying to prise out the plastic to get to the 'chrome' doesn't seem the way forward. I think it's a 'rear entry' job - i.e. remove internal door trim to push off complete black trim, then the fixing...

Citroen Xsara - no sidelight, dipped/full beam fine

One of the headlights on my 98 Xsara was stuck on sidelight, so I bought a new pair of bulbs.

Both work fine on dipped and full beam, but bizarrely one of them doesn't work on sidelight - it is completely off.

I've tried swapping the bulbs, but the right light still only works on dipped/full.

Twiddling the wires doesn't have any effect.

Hi!

I think the facelifted Xsara has two separate bulbs, but the pre 2000 ones have a single H4 bulb for dipped/full and dimmed.

I'll have a check around again to see if anything's amiss. At least the full lights work - I can live without them dimming.

on my 1.9td Xantia (1998 s1) i have noticed a small crack in the pipe leading from the LHM resevoir to the HP.
This is leaking a small amount of LHM but nothing significant at present but reckon it will cause an MOT failure...due end of this month :( :(
There is a reasonable amount of slack in the pipe and the crack is situated approx 2...

I had a similar problem and found some universal plastic pipe joints in my local tropical fish shop.A few jubilee clips and some suitable plastic pipe and you're away.I was strongly advised not to use rubber brake hose as LHM disolves it over time aparantly.

My xantia seems to have a bit of play in the steering. It's not drastic and is hardly noticeable, but having driven a ZX with tight steering recently it seems obvious that somethings amiss.

The car has new track rod ends, so it's not these. the play seems obvious when turning slightly and then going over a bump, you can feel the wheel...

I had an MOT failure a few years ago on a MK 1 Xantia due to play in the steering.Some mobile Citroen guys repaired it quite reasonably and they explained it to me as being some sort of joints on the inboard ends of the track rods.They were Stealer only parts.

remote central locking problem

i have a dispatch van on a 53 plate 2004, when i bought the van the remote central locking worked ok, but it has now stopped working. I have replaced the battery and tried the learning set up as descibed in the manual, but it does not work. as it does not have any leds on it, its had to know if its transmitting.Does anyone have any ideas.

You don't say how old the van is.

If it's an infra-red remote, you can check if it's transmitting by looking at the main LED, not the little red tell-tale, with a digital camera of any sort.

Digital cameras can 'see' IR so infra-red remotes are visible on their screens.

If it is IR and it's not transmitting, check the 'legs' of the LED. I've...

Can anybody identify this? its a ph1 xantia 1.9td. Noticed this is off whilst changing clutch.

If you look from front of the car, there is a right angled bracket that comes off the left hand side of the 10mm nut that holds the back of the lhm tank in place. The bracket is parallel with the bulkhead. It has two sensors with 4mm vacuum hose coming...

Xantia Hazard Lights

Hello all

please could someone help me!!!!
my hazard lights have stopped working along with my cig lighter and my rear screen heater!
i have checked the fuses etc and all are fine.
also i s a sump gasket easy to fit on one of these cars
probably should mention its a 98 xantia 1.9td.

Purely out of interest, I read your thorough explanation last night.

So what happened today? When I indicate (right or left) ALL the indicators flash (but not the hazard switch). I used the hazards last evening just before putting the car away (while removing a piece of junk from the middle of the main road).

If whilst moving i lift the handbrake until i feel a slight pressure the lever moves up and down slightly. This is worse on a bumpy road. Dodgy Xantia heater blower fan.

The heater fan on the Xantia in my sig is becoming tempramental, first ocassionally refusing to work, then since the weekend almost always refusing to work. The car has A/C and so the 'climate control' system, which I must confess I have never had anything to do with. The fan even refuses to work on maximum heat and fan setting.

mine has a mind of it's own and it is down to one of the conectors with a heavy gauge wire in the 4 pin plug, were it plugs into the fan houseing has got a bad conection and melted the plastic plug body,

i will fix it one day honest

Citroen C5 Rear Window

Like a numpty I reversed into a stationary trailer at work today :oops:
and my rear window has been completely smashed!!

Just had a quote from the lovely people at Autoglass and it came in at just under £500 :o

Now I was thinking if I bought the glass my self, how easy/difficult is it for a complete novice to replace??

C5 Revcounter fault

I'm sorry if this has already been posted,but My dad (a card carrying technophobe) has a problem with the revcounter on his C5 2.2HDI,its showing about half (or less)of the actual engine revs IE 2000 rpm nearly flat to the floor,the engines revving no problem,pulling ok,he recently had a new battery fitted after the orignal failed on a cold...

My 2nd problem is that today the display disappeared on the mileometer/trip display it did this the other day and came back on, any ideas.
There is a little bulb behind the mileometer display, when the bulb goes you cant see the milage & it looks as if the display has gone blank. most likely a bad connection at this bulb.

Citroen Relay remote and Code card

Hi all

Can anyone shade any light on the following.

Clearing out a box of keys i have a brand new citroen relay remote (flip key type with 3 buttons) the key is cut to suit a particular van (i have the vin number) and i also have a code card also for the same vin.

Can the key be reprogramed to suit another vehicle or would i have to used the...

to test if a shocker is working you just bounce on the rear end of the car, to see if it rebounds much, and to check for knoking/banging just crawl under the rear end and try yanking/pulling and pushing them, to see if there is any movment in the bushes

As you may remember in an earlier post I didn't have the alloy wheel locknut removal key for my 96 xantia. I still don't, but I do now atleast know which key I need. According to Citroen it is...

The new key costs almost same as a new set of bolts with the key. I have asked it in year 2007 from the dealer.

How long did it take for them to get it for you?

I didn't buy it. I went to the local tyre dealer and they removed the one that was too hard for the key. Three others I got off myself with the key.

98 Dispatch, intermittant indicators - hazard switch?

Hi guys,

I don't have any wiring diagrams for this 1998 dispatch (like Peugeot Expert) which is a neighbors.

It came in with intermittant indicators. Found the indicator relay & replaced it.

A new relay a for 3 days it worked. Now it's intermittant again, occasionally.

BUT - if he presses the hazards, it works. I'm thinking the indicators go...

I spotted a 1998/99 Synergie 1.9TD SX for sale and I'm quite tempted. I know it will be a bit slow and van-like but that doesn't bother me. Is there any major reason not to buy one?

I want to run a wire from the battery(with inline fuse)into the car,
where is the easiest place to go through the bulkhead /route the wire

This repair has worked for me for the last three months so should be OK

I would like to find a way to access the connector at the bulkhead where the wiring comes through to the cabin and to find the orignal brake, and to see if any other connections are likely to fail for the same reason.

It's a marketing ploy. We received a reminder and then a few days later a postcard. Even though we had sold the car (not a Citroen) and received notification that we had informed the DVLA.

Maybe if they stopped advertising so much on tv, giving away free cars (does nobody buys Seats) and wasting money on postage - Our Money! :evil: They could...

Mine has been bodged in the past by the looks of it, can this be bypassed temporarily as mine has cuaght something today and whatever has caught it has tore one connector clean off and the connectors aren't available on their own from citroen :(

Any quick replies appreciated as want to try and bodge this so i can at least get to work for a few...

Hi,I have heard that there is a citroen website where you can put your vin in and it comes up with everything about your car when it left the factory and saves trying to find out which engine etc you have by crawling around the car.
I have used it before and you have to register.
