Citroen c5 2 0 hdi estate, when the car is on tick over it sounds noisey but if you rev it slightley it does gow away
And its definitely drive belt side, as sat in McDonald's drive through with the eco nose as well it sounds terrible
I don't think its crank pulley as I replaced one on a previous car and that was more of a knock sound any pointers
Thank you all

Re: pulley noise
Look at the aux belt tensioner and see if its jumping up and down, a stretched/overly long belt can cause a rattling noise.

Re: pulley noise
Mine has been noisy for a year. The usual suspects have had three attempts to identify and cure it without success.
Polish guy knew what it was as soon as I started the engine for him.
Replaced the alternator pulley, freewheel was seized.
It had also, due to being left too long, taken the DM crankshaft pulley with it.
Quiet as a mouse now (no squeaking though
)
My daughters much newer Alfa GT sounds much more agricultural than the C5. As does the nearly new Honda Accord down the street.

Re: pulley noise
Just checked the alternator pulley and like you say it is seized, don't now whether to get new alternator or just the pulley as its probably the original alternator. Thanks

Re: pulley noise
I just had a new pulley. £35.
Whole job came to £163 and that was mostly parts (£123)
It's going back on Thursday to have the tensioner renewed 'just in case'.
