Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Are there any differences in the procedure and tooling required, such as the crank/pulley bolt/socket size and timing pins for the crank and cam.

For replacing a cambelt on a 2.0 Hdi.

We use a Picasso for transporting the kids around, it is a '03 model.
In the rear footwell there are two storage areas, one on each side of the car. ( In the floor )
The other day our son lifted the flap on on of these to put some toys in, and discovered there was about an inch of water in the bottom of the compartment.

While browsing in Wilkinsons I noticed they sell a cetane improver for under £5. So now I'm wondering, how do you judge the efficiency of these things? Even the info on the labelling of all these additives only claim they can help clean... or can help improve... nothing more concrete than that. I would imagine SVO would burn better with cetane...

Has anyone ever seen or heard of the suspension from a citroen being fitted to another car on a one off basis? Not like rolls royce and stuff.

I was told around 2002 that BX 16V spheres were no longer available.
The story at the time was that it was common now to supply the basic BX GTi/TZi or Tri as being compatible.
There is a guy over here who has a car that has had some kind of dodgy sphere fitted, suspected to be possibly hydractive spheres and one has just blown so he was trying...

GSF still list them for the BX 16 valve but these'll be Amtex ones and could be quite ederly now...

I looked in pr.net and Citroen still do them..

Just fitted new spheres to the rear of my son's 1.8, non-hydroactive, facelift model Xantia.

Having changed the belt on the 1.9td several times, is there any difference with the tooling required and the locating of the crank and cam TDC with pegs etc.

Is the bolt size on the crank of the same size as the 1.9td or do I have to get a new socket.??

Actually, it will be MK1 if it's got the LED on it - MK2 LED is elswhere.

So, remove the radio and mounting plate (open and remove the ashtray - first challenge, it sort of works backwards! - remove the two screws holding the radio surround in, and remove the surround, remove the two screws and pull the radio out, remove the 4 screws...

Hi, does anyone know if the C5 suspension pump uses some kind of belt anywhere?
After a weekend of no use, my C5 will make a noise a bit like a belt slipping, when the rear suspension is corrected. It only happens at about 25 meters from where I park, as I stop to open a gate. Its only noisy when the rear is going up.

Has your overfilling by any chance wetted any nearby a/c, alternator or vacuum pump belt ?

The ride height on my Xantia 2.1TD at normal looks ridiculously high compared to other cars around. The rear does not look to bad but the front is way too high.
According to the Haynes manual, it's easy to check the road height of the car but says that you need to take the car to a dealer for adjustment.
Are there any instructions on how to check...

The front height is more difficult to adjust, because the access is limited - the height corrector is back behind the motor near the middle lower suspension chassis.

This is a job that can only really be done over a pit or on a hoist - as long as you have that, its relatively easy - same as adjusting the rear height.

After having various problems with my ABS light (new sensor for MOT) the light is intermittently illuminating again - even when I am stationary. If I switch off and start moving again the light extinguishes. Sometimes the STOP light will illuminate for a second or so. Do I have an ABS problem or an instrument problem?

Dont let that scare you off.
There are quite a few genuine parts which are surprisingly cheap. Keep an eye on Citroen service net, as next time you need a sparepart - even a silly plastic retainer - a brand new genuine part may not be that expensive as first thought to be.
But admittently, most wearparts such as brakeparts are in general far more...

just spent five hours outside in the rain (oh the joys of citroen ownership)

my r reg td xantia estate is exhibiting some unusual symptons :(

a few weeks ago the back started to sink to the ground when parked (but repressurised whilst driving) so i made a mental note to have a look at it when i had a chance

ps ive gotten quite a few screens out b4 without breaking them, cut them ou with wire, but i have broken a screen simply by carrying it - 2 people, one at each end, if you don't work in close unison and apply the slightest torsion to it it cracked, it was en early 80s ford so maybe they don't rely...

Well it's about time my Xantia 2.0 VSX Estate was back on the road.

Last time it was used, it had developed an LHM leak from somewhere near the N/S rear suspension.
Is there anything in this area that is a common fault that I could look for and investigate? It was just a steady drip onto the ground and at the time I just couldn't see where it was...

I have oil in my intercooler pipes.... i cant remember if this is normal (oil catch tank needed) of it its a problem with a worn turbo

just noticed it when i did the glow plugs at the weekend

Its not reall ybad, could have accumilated over the years but its got stuff in there.

As Mike says Pete, oil here is totally normal and nothing at all to worry about.

It comes from the crankcase breather. If you look at the pipe from the oil filler pot that goes to the inlet tract via the capsule , that's the breather. The inlet suction sucks fumes from the crankcase and inveitably, some oil mist will be dragged in too, hence the...

I heard it when queuing in traffic, with a wall to my right so the noise was deflected back toward me. It was rare and intermittent and hard to reproduce but sometimes a blip on the throttle would induce it as the revs dropped to idle.

Well I got a bad news update on this now, over a month later. The belt has been shredded along one ridge. The length of stripped belt has lodged itself in all sorts of weird and wonderful places around the compressor pulley. The engine still runs, I took a detour to the shop to buy a new belt (£15!!!) and then it got me home ok, thankfully.

I have had some flat spots on the steering of late and got a chance to check thing today only to find the NSF track rod end has lots of free play and a broken rubber seal.

The stange thing is both track rod ends where replaced about 12mths ago by myself and the cars only done about 12000 miles since then.

Hi folks. Just looking at an X reg Xantia. Car seems great apart from a central locking issue. The car unlocks using the button on the remote but it wont lock with the button. It works fine if you ise the key in the lock.

Anyone come across this before? Dont suppose it''s an easy fix?
Seller seems to think its a symptom of a low keyfob battery...

Why not just use the key most of the time? The fobs will eventually wear out (as you are discovering) Just following up on this. Bought the car today, turns out the lock button on both keys is broken off . I opened the keys and the button dropped out on one and is missing altogether on the other. I'm looking at a couple of keys on Ebay to use the...

being an australian I dont know the ins and outs of the local MOT system,

my question is if a car goes for an MOT inspection and fails, are the details recorded into some central database, available for other garages to access?

If you do get a second hand one then any decent A/C specalist should be able to point you in the right direction to making your pipes fit if they dont do so straight away
the guy i use is able to make up his own pipes on site so a little bit of digging should produce the right result :)

Hello

Have removed gearbox from Synergie, 2.0 HDi. (Year 2000).

I can find no identification marks on it, where the marks should be. Have been told that this is an ML5T gearbox, but have also been told that this is wrong, (by a local car dismantlers).

Is there a difference between the ML5T and an ML5, see

The main problem was that it would often, (90% of time), not go into second. If you used a very strong jolt then it might engage. Otherwise it just slipped out again. I tried to engage second gear at the gearbox itself yet it still would not stay in gear. The times that it did engage second gear worked perfectly--and...

Hi, I am looking for a bit of advice from the forum as to diagnostic code readers for the Xantias. :o

From a pre-emptive search, I understand that the diagnostic read-outs from the ECU is in either ODB or ODB11 and that a specialized reader is needed to interpret the fault codes. No good for my ancient Draper Flashing LED unit.

Its always worth using the peromance diesel once in a while to make sure your car gets what its meant to and with the savings its easily do-able :)

Ok, I've been doing some sums.

We all know speedo's are deliberately showing higher speeds (+10%ish) for the sake of safety and variables between manufacturers, and that GPS gives more accurate reading of speed (although it's not guaranteed as they also have a disclaimer about being accurate to the nearest 10m or whatever).

It should definitely feel more lively above 2250 rpm. It's unlikely the turbo is not working - more likely that one of the pipes has come off or is split. Try revving the engine with bonnet open and see if you can feel or hear the air rushing out somewhere. Favourite places for failure are the small pipe that runs from the intercooler pipework to...

I'm sure if the turbo wasn't working you would know, the car would be completely gutless. You can easily check for some function by removing the air intake pipe from the manifold and feeling for a strong draught when you rev the engine. As Richard says, check the thin pipe that goes to the pump, that is the one that increases the fueling when on...

Hydractive cars were factory fitted with multilayer spheres on the front - identifiable by three dimples around the nitrogen filling point. These are well known for having very long life, compared to 'standard' spheres. Still, 150k is pretty good going!

My xsara a 1999 1.9 diesel non turbo will not lock the tailgate along with the four doors via the remote keyfob...I looked in the handbook and it said to put the key in the tailgate and withdraw it at 45 degrees but this has had no effect...Has anyone on here had a similar problem and if they have had how is it cured..

P.S I can hear the tailgate...

Just looking at getting the xantia back on the road after its layup, chucked on a new battery, new fuel filter, airfilter, not done oil and filter yet as it has only done 2000 since last change, what I have noticed though is that there is a noisy wheel on the multi belt, it appears to be the one on the alternator, the wheel can be made to go...

Hypothetically speaking, if I thught my C5 LDS was low, and I topped it up to where it should be, then discovered I had infact had it on the normal height instead of its lowest height, what would happen?
And if I kept driving around pretending it hadn't happened? Does it have an escape?

Hi all
have just done a mini service on the good ladys xantia 1.9d 1996 and have taken it for a spin tio check everything is ok
everything fine until you get to about 60-65mph then there is a bad vibration felt through the steering wheel and feels if car wants to pull to the right.
i have checked tyre pressures and they are ok but i get no...

Hi all

my first post here ....

My xantia - 1997 with air conditioning - fan no longer works, i suspect the transistor board as the plug has power, however interestingly the two thick leads, the red supply and the black earth have both got very hot in the past as they have started to melt the plastic of the plug. Which suggests another problem as...

You would first need to see if all the controls are identical.
Then pull the board out to compare it with yours.

Well after reading many experiences on here of tipping in some of the old 'SVO' into the DERV I finally plucked up the courage to mix 3x3l of Sainsbury's finest yellow. So 3l of SVO into the approx 5 l of derv left in the tank and then I filled up another 20l of derv and returned home to top up with the other two 3l bottles to make 9l added.

Hi all, just joined forum.. so Hi to all, just a quick note to say my 2000 picasso had a total break failure last week and when I stuck my head underneath I found that the break pipe from that travels along the rear axle was totally rotten. it is only 12 inches that was gone, the rest of the pipe was like new, it seems that where they have clipped...

My son's Xantia Series2 SX, 90BHP HDI, 1998 S,-seems to have a stuck level orange disk. It is stuck firmly at top of the dome. I have been looking all over this forum for an answer---I thought there was a post about the same thing not so long ago. Can you get them out to replace or can they be sorted?
