C5 Air-con pump, aux belt and idlers

I'm going replace the timiong belt, water pump and idlers on the C5 this weekend and, at the same time, replace the auxillary belt and idlers.

I already have the timing belt etc but when I went to order the auxillary stuff I was told that there are two types of A/C pump fitted and, naturally, there are two different kits. The two types are Sanden (of whom I've never heard) and Delphi. So the questions are:-

How likely is it that one type was fitted rather than the other? and

Is it easy to tell the difference between the two? (I haven't taken off the undertray yet - that's for this evening).

There's quite a difference in price betwen the two kits £55.43 +vat for the Sanden and £85.16 +vat for the Delphi. Now why on earth should that be?

You cannot take a guess at all to which compressor is fitted, unfortunally, you'll have to find its lable, clean the crap off and see which make it is.. I think its down to Pully size, so the belts will be different sizes...

Its highly likely that EITHER compressor can be fitted..

Also I assume you have the Metal Cam Belt tensioner and idle pully for replacement?? Much better bet then rubbish plastic ones..?

There will be a make ident lable on the compressor under the crap, but weither its on the down side face of the compressor body or the up side is anyones guess again..

Thanks for the info. I had a sinking feeling when I posted that I already could guess the answer...

I've done some investigation online and I've found that there are actually two different belts for Sanden compressors. The belt lengths are different so I expect that the pulleys are slightly different to make that the case.

For info belts are:

Delphi - 1750
Sanden to engine 09337 - 1737
Sanden from engine 09338 - 1745

The tensioners are the same regardless so I fail to see why there's such a huge difference in kit prices.

I suppose that in theory if I could get the belt's length I could work out which compressor/pulley combination I have!

Hi Paul

If it is an early C5 the where fitted with Delphi Harrison A/C

It's Part number is 1135290 Code Number 051181015.

Its the same one on my Xantia,there is a label stuck on the pump with green edging with number 5290 printed on there.

Thanks Kenny but I've been under the car to check and - it's a Sanden. I've been unable to find tthe engine number so I'll just have to nope that the year is sufficient.

I'll check the prices of the indivual items to see if they're less than the kit and I'll also see whether the idlers are plastic or metal.

Hi all, as aircon getting more response here rather than the set forum!

Car went in for air con service last week as not getting cold.

Garage tested and compressor u/s replacement plus filter, parts, flush etc. looking at £700 - 800.

On a 2002 C5 I have to ask is there a cheaper alternative way for repair, quoted £400 for compressor, seen on ebay new patent £285 but still means a fair few £££'s to fork out for repair and reset.

Is it blowers and open windows for the summer or suggestions for an affordable fix will be most welcome.
