Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

still loving my 2008 C5 2.0 hdi exclusive. luxury feel inside and its so so quiet even at higher speeds. With sport mode on I've not even noticed the soft suspension that many talk about. effortless on the motorways. so much car for the money, even colleagues who have BMWs.Audis etc. have commented on the amount of kit in the car as standard

Sounds like the CV joint is disintegrating and is locking up. Remove the bottom ball joint and the drive shaft nut, you should be able to swing the hub out far enough to pull the shaft out. The near side is the easiest to change, it has no centre bearing, it should just pull out, if not place a tyre lever between that and the diff housing and...

You were more likely to do damage with the cable adjusted too tight. If it selects gears cleanly then it's fine. You would normally expect the clutch pedal to be considerably higher than the brake pedal, mainly 'cos the brake pedal is lower thanon a convential brake pedal.

Hi,

Finally just bought myself a Lexia which should be winging its way to me soon. Noticed it comes with 30-pin cable but not 2-pin one and I forgot to check before buying it. :? Does anyone know what diagnostic socket a 1998 Xantia 1.9TD uses?

Just curious if I'll be able to check my parents' car over, really.

It should be, especially as it will allow me to program in the new injector, and as both sides of the family have Citroens, it'll hopefully prove invaluable.

After finding the turbo in the C3 seized, I've now finished stripping it down and cleaning it all and will be refitting it over the next few days. Fingers crossed that's the end of it then...

Are there any real differences between the different engines in the way of rear silencers.

The Activa's has now sprung a proper hole and needs replacing, it's gone in the usual place - backbox side of the joint to the centre pipe.

A hunt on Citroen Service reveals the Activa backbox has a different part number to everything else, but I wondered...

were do they hide the engine code on an 02 Picasso 1.8 16V SX,

and are there any hittch's fitting a 1.8 16V lump with a diferent engine code,

like ECU compatabilaty,

I have just looked at a hydractive v6 for someone, and replaced a few spheres, but cant understand why when the electovalves kick in the car will jerk up then settle back down, both at front and back.

Does anyone have any ideas? the lexia throws up no suspension faults.

Hi

It only happens once approx 10-15 seconds after starting the engine - it sounds like the first half of a wolf whistle and is sometimes quite loud - it doesn't matter if the engine is hot or cold - its got me baffled so any suggestions welcome

This isn't actually my car, it's one i went to view this morning.

It's a 1996 ZX 1.9td, 152k on the clock & in quite reasonable conditon The seller picked me up & soon after it became apparent that it had some 'issues'!

The problem seems to only afflict 3rd gear - when accelerating reasonably briskly in 3rd the whole car seems to...

Hi

I can't believe it as on the way home I thought I'd rev the car abit more
and be a abit brisk and suddenly the Engine Temp High came on the computer aswell as the Temperature Gauge right up in the red!

If might be worth while checking the connections on the temperature sensors (there's often more than one). Usually, sensor circuits are designed so that they 'fail safe' - you get a 'false alarm' rather than driving along in blissful ignorance.

You going to have to 'drain' some coolant out to change any dead sensor(s), if the car is more than 4...

Monday I drove from Godalming to Lanark and only remember seeing two Xantias - an R plate 2.0i estate NB on the M6 and a Mk2 hatch SB on the M6 - with a canoe on the roof! They are starting to get thin on the ground :cry: I suppose that the yougest are at least 8 years old, so it's not that surprising.

Any ideas? i have a C5 estate 2.2 on a 51 plate the rear wiper goes half way knocks and stops if you open the tail window you can see the motor and that works fine close it back down wiper goes half way again if you help it with your hand it will go, seems like the arm has gone tight for the motor to move it.

Hi,

I have chased a fault of air in my diesel in my citroen xantia Mk2 1998 (edited from 89 appolagies for the mistake).

I have installed some clear fuel line with proper fuel clips and can find no air from the squeezy bulb or tank side of the fuel filter.

every time I rasie the throttle speed I get large air bubbles running to the pump fuel...

Since having driven various other vehicles lately (a golf tdi, long transit, old rover, focus and couple of smaller cars) something has become obvious - the steering in all these vehicles was so unbelievably light!

I've had my 2.2HDi C5 for some 2.5 years now, and I've reached a point where I simply don't know if the steering is...

Just out of interest I measured the force require to turn the steering wheel on mine just now. (for method see earlier post.)
Approx 5Llbs on my (t)rusty spring balance. perhaps 6llb to start and 4-5 to maintain rotation, which surprised me as my steering seems quite light, as light as my other car (Mazda). But then it is subjective.

the car Citroen xantia 1998 Mk2 S reg 1.9TD estate.

Ever since Citroen had my car in for emergency surgery to replace all of the serpentine belt pulleys about three years ago I have had this deep dronning noise comming from the engine at idle.
I thought maybe it was the compressor on the air con circuit and symptoms have been know in low air-con...

much smoother ride now,still lots more to do N/S lower ball joint, discs and pads front, wheel alignment (tyres badly worn both on inside edge)and tyres,alternator belt,cambelt & tensioner set should be delivered this week £45.

.... well, it's enough to fill one anyway. It's all in the front footwells, mostly passenger side but also reaching drivers.

Do you think it's bad? Here's the a short video clip but you'll have to tilt your head to the left to see it's proper orientation.

I noticed when looking at my XM last night there is a drip from the hydraulic pump which is landing on the alternator.

It looks like it's been happening for a bit as the alternator looks quite green around the casing.

Is there a common spot on the pump that leaks?

Hoping it's just a seal that can be replaced in situ so I don't need to strip it...

Is there a way of getting the pump off the car without having to dismantle the entire front end of the car?

Is it even necessary to remove the pump?

I've got 6 O rings in total to overhaul it, 3 green and 3 slightly larger black ones. The big black one at the back of the pump I've decided not to do.

I know this has been covered extensively, and I have read all of the threads and followed the advice, but my symptoms seem a bit odd, and maybe a false alarm but I want to be sure.

Firstly the radiator is fairly new (about a year) and the engine was flushed when it was replaced, and these symptoms started before the change. It is an air con...

Hi All,

I was wondering how many other C5 owners have quite high frequency vibration through their clutch pedal?
(as I have)

The vibration does get less when the cars warmed up,
Could this be a sign the Dual Mass Flywheel is worn or something else?

I've had a search online for Symptoms and it could be a worn Flywheel or
a number of other causes which mainly relate to wear + tear.

Oh well looks like i will get it checked out in time
but certainly not urgent at present

hi,i have recently purchase a 2001 c5 2.2 hdi sx saloon with 76,000 mls,after reviewing the car before i bought it, i was looking foward to having a good return of miles per gallon(after having a discovery)but unfortunatly this is not the case,can anyone help with this problem as the fuel consumption is shocking to say the least :cry:

hello,

please help ive got a c3 1.4 hdi and its really holding back power wise , the ecu as been read and bring up this -

P0483 PRESENCE OF COOLING FUNCTION INCORPORATED INTO

I have had a timing belt failure and the head is shot as the cam carriers are broken.
I am unsucessful at finding a replacement head from the dismantlers. Options are a new head at £400 or see if a XUD head will fit.

It is off my citroen dispatch 1.9d on a 99 plate. The main difference I can see is the glow plugs and injectors are in different...

The van. It lives.

An XUD head will fit in replacement of a DW8 head. There are a few mods due to the injector and glow plug positions being reversed. The injector pipes need a little bend and one vane on the block needed a bit of a grind back to clear a blank plate which my old head had a core plug in. Overall runs similar, however hard to tell...

hi all have xantia 2.1 diesel est stop light on dash till car warmed up then flashes now again car also sinks overnight brakes steering all ok suspension takes bit of time to rise but ok to drive just light on or flashing :

First thing to check I would think would be LHM level. Stick the suspension on high and make sure the orange float is between the two red marks on the indicator bulb at the top of the LHM reservoir.

find the part Number for the Suspension adjuster.....(the bit that goes between the lever between the seats & the height adjuster)

I KNOW the lever between the seats & the height adjuster are NOT connected ...(Coz I can see the LINK hanging loose under the car)

or better still post an exploded diagram of said linkage (just so I can get it...

Ok ...Long Story ..... Potted version .....

my Normal vehicle is a L322 Range Rover but recently I've had to Ferry my Mum around (Shes 92!!) Getting her into a Rangie is ... well a NON STARTER!!!

couple of weeks ago I'm off walking the dog on the beach & pass my pensioner (Gordon) neighbours house hes out Twiddling with his 99 HDi Xantia......

Hi I own a Xsara that's having issues I have had it tested for faults its had a new maf that's come up again as a secondary cooling sensor 2 I had the brake sensor replaced this also returned and i have had fuel pressure switch replaced with was the last fault also.:?

Now the infernal light has come on again!! ,went into limp home mode, I stopped...

Ok I took it to Bosch Service people in Biggleswade, nice bunch there :D they plugged it in to find 5 faults logged in the ECU as follows...

P0110 air temp sensor,P0571 Brake Contact Signal,P0191 fuel pressure signal coherence,P1219 engine oil sensor and finally P0100 flow meter signal.

2 have been replaced apparently I have the reciept,One I...

Has anyone had occasion to try to repair one of these?
Mine took to only going up, I'm fairly sure a Synergie TD can't make over 130 mph down a country lane!
After a couple of restarts, it flew down to about zero and stayed there, apart from a very occasional slight kick.
Its no great drama at the moment, with the aid of a GPS I have 'calibrated'...

The most common failure mode appears to be cabbaged stepper motors or the gears for them breaking.
I haven't actually done it but there are a lot of posts from those who have - source another stepper motor from a scrapyard and they are a straight swap - or you can use the one in the tacho if you want one straight away.

Well a couple of weeks ago I bought a 1998 Citroen Xantia 2 litre Exclusive! It's just gone in for it's MOT today so hopefully it'll not cost too much... The man will be phoning in literally 10 minutes to break the news to me on how much it will cost me!! I paid £350 for the car with 6 months tax and 2 weeks MOT at the time so I shouldn't complain!

It is the low oil level warning - if it senses the oil is low it flashes for fifteen seconds at ignition on (or is it engine start?) then goes off.

I could be mistaken but don't these sensors sometimes give phantom warnings on synthetic oil?

Not sure if I should put this in the Aircon forum.

Anyway- i'm about to change the aircon compressor on my Citroen Xantia. I seem to remember hearing that i should change the dryer at the same time??

My general question is: What should I change aswell as the compressor?

Ive just swapped my compressor on my Xantia, because I had the I THINK Harrison compressor with split body compressor, and it leaked its gas from there... I put in a Sanden compressor from an 1800 8v Petrol on the TD, this compressor was a single body joined in a better way at the end...

I just need to vac it all out now, and make sure its all...

Is there a mercury switch in the tailgate as mines taken to only working the lights on the tailgate when its half open (num plate lights,reversing lights,stoplight,) :( ,the wiper motor still works :?.

thanks Peter no broken wires fortunately but a bad connection somewhere,not sure which one but pulled them all apart and back together and all my lights are back on :D .I will get in there with some electric spray when I get some and check them all out.

Anybody got any experience of the 150 - 200 quid particulate filters off Ebay ? Mine still shows 'unblock filter' despite a couple of regeneration runs along the dual carriageway at 4k. The MPG is still quite low too. We're off on holiday at the end of next week, so it's time to sort it, and the 150-200 quid cost will be offset against the mpg...

Amazing all this electronic stuff! I know its more for emmisions etc, but my 1991 H reg, XM 2.1 TD, gives me around 45mpg!!!! And doesn't give out much smoke either, ive seen lots of newer cars giving more out!

Hi Everybody,
I am the one responsible for recently saving that white BX TZD from the breakers.
I have a problem with her that's driving me a bit mad, the drivers side window drops by about 2.5 CM's, I took the door card off to have a bit better look and saw that the winder mechanism is worn beyond repair.

never done my own, garage did it before replacing MAF but & i'll stand to be corrected if wrong...from memory garage told me....

located horizontally top back of engine, disconnect the two metal flexi pipes either side, undo 4 ? bolts & remove.

The above car is booked into main dealers next week for a code read as our hand held readers don't cover this car

meanwhile we thought we could do a few checks ourselves. On checking voltage at maf sensor plug disconnected

4 terminals marked 1-2 -4-5 at ignition on engine off readings were as follows

no 1 terminal 5 .01v

no 2 terminal 0v...

Hi guys,

For the past two three months I got a low frequency noise on my 99 Xantia (/ humming)
coming from either the front or the rear wheels. The reason I can’t figure out whether it’s
coming from the front or rear is because it’s in the “bass” frequency area. It sounds like a
propeller airplane flying at a distance, starts at around 70 km/h...

Hi all,
I will be doing my steering rack gaiter this week before my MOT at the end of the month.
Unfortunately it's the near side I have to do, so I know I'm in for a bit of a game. I made sure I got a pattern part made of stretchy rubber so I stand a chance of getting it over the spigot.
My question is- What grease should I be using to pack...

Job done,
Was a bit tricky to get the new gaiter over the spigot... I left the nut on the end to stop the threads doing any damage, greased the whole thing, stretched it to a point I thought it would split at any second. I used a ring spanner to tease it over the spigot bit by bit.
