Catastrophic guide pulley bracket failure

We took a nice wee drive up to Stirling today. Fancied a change and grabbed a spot of lunch.
On the way back home we could hear a squeaking coming from under the bonnet. I thought to myself "probably need a new aux belt"
Stopped at Asda for some shopping then on the road home, only 1.5 mile or so from our house we heard a few clunks, a snap and were hit with:
1) No power steering and
2) Battery not charging, low battery warning on the dash

Just made it home and popped the bonnet. The guide pulley is not sitting where it should be and the belt is in shreds. It looks like the bracket holding the guide pulley has snapped. Never had this happen to me before!

Needless to say I'm glad we got home before any further damage was done or we broke down!
Tomorrow I'll get the car up on the ramps and see what I can do to repair the bracket

Any of you had the same problem on your C5 petrol?

is the engine still running normally as its not unknown for the aux drive belt to wind its way inside the cam belt cover and get up to all sorts of mischief ,

i would not start the enginwe again till i was sure none of the aux belt has gone into the cam belt covers,

Seemed to be driving OK but admittedly wasn't a great distance.
Will not start it tomorrow until I'm sure that it's OK.

That is a minor failure, as Citronut says, it is very common for cambelt failure directly after.
Shouldnt be too tricky on this car, did a 306 DW8 this week, right pig to do, and lots of cost involved also.

Got the bits out today. It's the tensioner that has broken its bracket on the engine mount. So it's going to be a new mount, already got the new belt and a new pulley just for good measure.

Need the bracket in the attached picture replaced. It's proving a pain trying to find one.

and not just part of the tentioner broken?????

The mount has 2 protruding hoops with holes in them that the tensioner bolts into. One of them has broken off and the tensioner also has a hoop broken off.
