Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

On steels, Cassy runs 185/65/R15H, but now I've got a set of alloys, they're similar to the activa ones, Jenny has the same fitted.

To my knowledge they still take 205/60/R15's, and that's what's currently fitted, but what speed rating is needed?
Juliet uses V/W, but then she's an Activa.

There are two widths of alloys; VSX/Activa/Exclusive use a 6J while the SX and similar have a 5½J.

Offsets are different, too. A mismatched axle pair could be interesting for cornering effects, as it would mess up the Ackermann geometry.

What is the diameter of the Rear anti roll bar bearing ? The anti roll bar diameter is 22mm ? At Citroën service site the diameter of the bearing is 22mm. I installed an 22mm bearings ( not the original but MC’s ) and the anti roll bar slips. Any one knows what is the diameter of the anti roll bar bearing ?
P.S. The bearing is the block of rubber...

Hi ,
My query here is that when i accelerate my car it is not going over 5000 rpm. what can the reason be? I have recently got its oil with air and oil filter replaced.

PSA advise a run at 4,000 revs for 20 mins to clear crap out/regenerate the FAP.

Without FAP then a good swift blast down a deserted motorway will do the trick.
I generally do a barely legal trip to Scotch Corner - around 80 miles in total, the night before the MOT.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for all the help.
As I am new to Citroen C5, my query is when I turn off my car, its rear suspension goes down as its on lower suspension mode and comes back to normal position when I turn the ignition on (even before car starts).I have noticed that there is a little leakage as well on the left rear suspension underneath my car....

The suspension starts coming back to the normal position after I unlock the door as a motor like noise comes from front and then in a minute the suspension comes back to normal.

That is entirely normal for the C5 - suspension pump activates as the doors are unlocked.

Hi I'm after a pinion housing for a peugeot partner, given the berlingo is the same car Im posting here too. The rack has a detachable pinion housing, but I belive there are two types ( flAT AND NOT ) Any experts know which vehicles share this rack and how to identify if the pinion is flat or not?

Hi all..

CAR: 2000 X Xantia HDI 110bhp with NO Turbo Boost

Wasted an afternoon today.. After discovering that HDi 110bhp turbo Units in Xantias Can be removed with the engine in situ, it involes a hell of a lot more then an XUD turbo removal...

The HDi engine needs to be mooved forward and lifted up, then befor that, bottom rear engine mount...

Wont be on it now this weekend... Oil feed is fine.. I cleaned that up and made sure it was clear.... The other turbo hasnt siezed.. Its not as free as this one but it turns... Someone has been playing with the wastegate though....

I have a 2002 Xsara automatic - EW10 engine, AL4 transmission, multiplex.

Just how long should this take?
Whilst I appreciate after seeing the rot now, that it involves removing the brake pipes and carpet from inside, I've been quoted between 2 and 4 hours and approx £100+! :shock:

I'm wavering on scrapping the car now tbh., as it needs a wheel bearing too. :cry:

Last summer on a couple of warm days my Xantia would be reading high on the temp meter.
When noticing it do this i would stop and turn my engine off, at that point i'd see coolant\water leak out the lower part of the radiator (in fact it could be coming from a small outlet pipe which is dangling on that side).

After topping up with water or more...

Is the thermostat housing high up? If there is air in the system, then maybe the thermostat is sitting in air, instead of being surrounded in water. So it might not be sensing the true temperature of the water. Just speculation. I don't know if this actually happens or not.

Edit: Could the electric fan sensor have the same problem? It's important...

Yes its the outdoor life for me on a beautiful day like today.

The perfect day for doing the strut top to satisfy the MOT man. He was spot on though lots of corrosion and crinkly metal/rubber bits giving the impression that the strut mounting area was badly corroded. It isn't, its just the strut top assembly much featured in the speared Xantia...

Hi all, an emergency has arisen as I'm off to France very soon. My drivers side low beam wasn't working the other day (high beam and parking were). on my c8 20hdi starter motor stuck and blew fuse at christmas, car bump started straight away.. took starter off and sent it for clean up etc and refitted it with no problems, never had prob again until now when it stuck again abd blew fuse. same again replaced fuse and bump started with no probs (this time starter released and is now working fine...

hope everyone is doing well

about 2 months ago my airbag light was flashing, cloggz recommended for me to d/c and reconnect the battery, i did it and it stopped the airbag light from flashing - thanks again cloggz worked a treat

but now, about 2 months later the light decides to come back on again, and is flashing again, i d/c...

The mother-in-laws 2005 C3 1.4 HDi 16v is showing an engine management fault and light.

So i disconnected the battery and the light went out. it idled fine for 5 minutes so i thought i would move it. When i touched the accelerator the light and fault message came up again

Hi - I need to replace the gear knob on my '96 1.9td Synergie as it has split and fallen apart. Will a 'universal' gear knob do the job or do I need to get a specific one. There are plenty on ebay claiming to be a universal fitment,but I've heard that before!!. Thanks.

the universal type usualy have 3 little grub screws that tighten with a small allen key so yes they would fit but probably look a bit naff so maybe finding a genuine replacement would be better. :)

What do people use to seal the scuttle on a Xantia?

Due to a matrix replacement (not my Activa) I'm going to have to take the scuttle off. This is all well and good but the one part of the job I didn't do last time round was resealing it.

Hi

First real issue with the car and a strange one!!
Got into the car this morning and just flicked the wiper to do one sweep to remove the dew on the screen but the wipers continued and continued and continued, i had to keep adding water to stop them wearing out.
Pulled over into a layby, turned the car off - removed the keys from the ignition -...

Quick question?

Firstly, i have a new(er) C5 as my old one died.
The new one is as 2003 model and i put a new battery on it at the weekend but the new car didn't respond to my old routine of powering up a C5 or Battery/BSi Reset, in fact it seemed it didn't need it??

I can whip my battery in out without any ritual apart from the obligatory lock / unlock key in and wait 30 seconds for the security stuff to sort itself out and reset the radio.

It's no good hoping that some mystical ritual is going to sort out the wiper sorry to say I think you have a real problem :-(

Hi there, Is there anybody that can tell me if its possible to change the lucas fuel pump for a bosch one. Is it a simple swap, ie can you use same cable,cam belt pipes etc. and would anyone know which model would have a suitable bosch pump. I am just doing some research into using used veg oil and/or if its possible to use other types of oil eg...

Small point: beware if sourcing a 405 pump as posted above, the very last (N and P plate 405's D and TD) do have a keypad. Its behind the handbrake under a flap, not infront of it 306 style. Still, with a pump off its easy to 'attend' to such things anyway ;)

Hi,
Has anyone changed these--Rear Suspension Bump Stops. Are they just screwed into captive nuts.?? If so, they have escaped, lol. They are just turning round and around. Just looked at Cit Service site,and they call them Rebound Blocks.

I ve just seen the nice Activa , for sale on ebay , only 12 miles away but petrol ! Probably a very silly question , but, is there such a thing as Activa Diesel , or only petrol ?

At the end of a tiring Cambelt change I manage to snap a feed from a sensor to the Bosch pump. Does any one know what the purpose of this green sensor is.

.

Would this disturbed feed give rise to tractor like noise, or have I missed a tooth on the belt. Fearing worst I have not taken it for a spin yet, though it starts on first kick!

Hi this is my first post.

I have a Citroen C5 2003 (52 plate) estate.

every so often the clutch pedal seems to go towards the floor, one time I found it on the floor, pulled it up by hand and carried on driving. If you pull the pedal up, it remains ok for some time.

The clutch is hydraulic on this car.

I'd be grateful for any solutions....

Hi, I have got a nasty oil leak, coming from the rocker gasket. About two oil changes ago , I started using Millers Oils , 10w - 40 , instead of Mobil 1 . Could this be the cause of the oil leak ? Should I have stuck to Mobil 1 ?
Do I need to torque wrench the rocker cover back on ?

Thx for the replies to my previous questions , have sorted out the suspension and front brakes and next will be radiator and wipers .

My radiator is rusted and the water is brown , ocassionally the STOP /temp light comes on even tho there is water in.Am planning to try Radweld firstly ; despite my mechanic telling me it may block the rad. and...

I changed my S2 bayo rad for a good used (almost brand new) S1 type, a few years ago :)

I can't remember if I changed the pipework or just cut the bayonet off the end.. it has not let me down since though :)

Finally managed to track one down that hadn't been to the moon and back or been used as farm transport, and was within easy distance of home. OK, it's only a poverty spec Forte, and it was a bit pricey, but a lot cheaper than a tired C5, and I can work on most of it 8)...

Looking the rear wheel arch with the wheel off today I noticed that the blanking plug in the front of the arch was loose - looks like the water has got in and started some corrosion which has pushed the plug out of place. No wonder the water gets into the sill cavity and rots it out. Have pushed this plug back in, but might add some duct tape and...

Annoying problem, can anyone help? Changed the battery on the (97, Mk1) Xantia earlier, now I can't disable the alarm. The key plip thingy doesn't work, pressing the dashboard button with the sensor marking doesn't either (which I'm sure it did once before.)

HELP....!

This post is somewhat aimed at DickieG - we share more than a name it seems :?

We both changed Xantia HDi 110 cambelts, both had problems bleeding the system, resulting in both of us cooking the electric heater, and both of us (as I discovered earlier this evening) ended up with the heater leaking :cry:

I had a HDi 90 for a while and got used to it taking a while to warm up comapred to the XUD's and the activa so i can always go for that method lol. though using .5kw of juice would but a dent in the mpg from each tank when it would only be doing 20mile trips each way i imagine anyway :(

I took my Xantia to the local dealership today for an LHM fluid change. Price was very reasonable, actually cheaper than a few local garages.

Picked the car up this afternoon and drove it home no problem. Been out...

This sort of situation is the norm for most makes of cars - I wouldn't send a car to a main dealer if they charged £20/hr, I learned that lesson at a young age when I asked a VW dealer to regrease my driveshaft joints. They could not have been surer that they would still be well-packed with grease but I insisted, I could feel they were dry....

My Xantia Estate is still going strong with 161K on the clock. :) I have been advised that the handbrake cable will need to be replaced, same with the clutch cable. Both are originals - I just wondered which I should do first. :?:

In terms of performance, both are working as they should - need to pull the handbrake on a bit more than I used to...

Thanks Richard and Martin - I have added the jobs to my Easter list.

I didn't know that the handbrake can end up wearing the front pads out and the comment about the clutch cable not owing me anything is spot on. These Xantias were certainly made well - not many on the road these days but I will keep mine going for a while yet.

I've purchased the rubber pipe & pad for the strut hydraulic fluid return . it is attached to the strut with a metal clamp. I think that it will be possible to remove the clamp, but since the new pipe comes with a clamp, I would like to ask if there is a need for a special tool to install the clamp or it can be done with pliers and a...

I'm aware of the differences in bore.

For the shorter term, what kind of behaviour would people expect? Would it bottom out a lot?

Just for part of the Hydractive swap, I am looking at a full transition from the guts of one subframe to the other; then the estate strut cylinders would need machining for the larger feed pipes before...

Has anybody fitted LED lamps in their Xantia?

I am particularly interested in changing/replacing the abyssmal parking lamps in the headlights of all our Xantias. I do get a little concerned that our cars cannot be seen in our unlit country roads when parked up.

Any recommendations?

Ive been using led tail light/stop/fog/reversing/number plate plus side lights for years.
the led's that are flat type are normally better than round type which are rated in mcd's (micro) and are cheap lots fail esp ebay ones.
thers some realy good ones with flat type leds can't think of name off top of me head one's cree which go upto and over...

Recently I've done a lexia test and something strange happened: While reading fault log it said that the log is full and after opening it came up with the fault log is empty .
All the sensors are just fine and no permanent errors came up after scanning.

Has anyone encountered such an error? It could be...

I`m desperated looking for a solution! :oops:

In cold wheater especially bellow 0 degrees engine starts normally and after one minute it becomes rattley and the revs are jumping between 500rpms and 1200rpm for about 2-3 minutes, after that is working normally and I could go to my workplace. If engine is warm, it`s start perfectly and...

i have a 2000 xsara coupe and she is overheating a little in these summer weather like weather we had here in germany today with 25 degrees,

i bought a new thermostat from a Citroen dealer today thinking that it would solve teh issue, it actually made the car overheat more, so maybe the new thermostat was faulty - but it fitted...

That’s normal, it takes quite some power to move at such speeds and the engine pedals hard and fast.
The makers tout top speeds of 120 mph and so, but they’re only good for the time to get there and back.
My petrol Xantia was only good for 90 mph, above that the temperature started to rise....

My thrust bearing is screaming and I need to know what bhp my engine is.GSF say that my reg. does not come up on the computer even though it has in the past? Its a W reg 2.0hdi.They have supplied spheres in the past for a 90 bhp but now its a grey area apparently.Is there any definite tell tale .

The HDi 90 has the BE3/5 gearbox with a cable clutch. The 110 has a ML5T and a hydraulic clutch.

The Haynes manual isn't entirely accurate for HDi models, I'm sure they just copied and pasted a load of things from previous editions. The Haynes is referring to HDi 110 and the 2.1TD when it speaks of sealed and non-sealed systems.

Look at your VIN...

hi guys.ive got a p reg synergie that some of you might remember me changing the drivers side coil spring on few weeks back n ive had no issues with that job........til yesterday :x id been out in it and just happened to park the car up with the wheels kicked out at full lock n noticed that the tyre was shaved off down to the wire on the inside :x...

hi lads took out my thermostat and tested it, but it didnt pop at any temperature, really not sure what t story is, cos i bought a new thermostat, with 83degrees written on it, and it actually caused the car to rise in temperature more than the old thermostat!

Surely you can find ten Euro to make a fist of testing it?

The thermostat is like a violin; it's about finesse and control. It doesn't suddenly go SPROINNG! :shock: and pop open when you drop it into water at 83°C.

I would install it. If you leave it out now and forget the first cold night... :?
