Citroen specialist - Lancashire?

Post by n.wotherspoon »

Can anyone recommend a Citroen specialist / garage (independent) in the Preston / Blackburn, Lancashire area please? I have searched the forum, but don't seem to be able to find one local to me mentioned anywhere.

My 04 C5 2.2 VTR Estate has developed the usual groaning and knockings from the rear axle, which reading on here is almost certainly the rear arm bearings and this week I have spotted that the nearside rear tyre is wearing unevenly too, so I need the alignment checking. I am usually prepared to tackle any job on the car, but from what I have read this looks like a task for someone who knows the procedure and as I live miles from anywhere, I can't risk running into problems and it being off the road.

Any recommendations appreciated - Nick

There is one in Yorkshire, don't know how far he is from you, he name is Malcolm and he is either Savoy Cars or motors. He is a wizard with XMs and the C5 suspension is not that much different.

The arm bearings are not to difficult if you have a reasonable set of tools, ideally you need a press to remove the outer part of the bearings but a welder will do it otherwise.

There's also Graham Morton at Homlfirth, if that's not too far for you.

Thanks everyone - I had spotted Savoy on the net, but its so long since I used a garage for anything other than an MOT, I would have no idea who to try - will give them a ring and probably the one in Banks, as that is not too far either.

Thanks again for the recommendations - much appreciated - Nick

Malcolm at Savoy is a top bloke, had cars off him (an XM, a Xantia HDI and my current Berlingo). Honest bloke, reasonably priced. No tea machine though. Proper old-school mechanic. Highly recommended.

My brother took RUNN into Savoy on Friday morning, as arranged, for a new accumulator sphere. Turned up at 9:15am as arranged, and was home, with new genuine sphere supplied fitted at 10am, all for a very reasonable price.

Perhaps one of the satisfied customers of Savoy Garage would like to nominate them in the Recommended Garages and Services forum and others add to it.

Thanks again everyone - I took the consensus of opinion and booked it in with Savoy at Hapton - dropped it off at 9.00am and received a Xantia to play with for the day - brought back memories :)

Malcolm rang me at 3.30 to say to set off as would be ready by the time I got there and it was. He showed me the parts removed - one side the bearing had totally collapsed  and he explained regarding a couple of problems he had encountered and how he had fixed them - but saying how much easier it was with me already having sorted the rear brakes.

Ride and cornering transformed and all silent again :) Found Malcolm very knowledgable and pleasant to deal with and would definitely say I am a satisfied customer and would recommend him.

Was this yesterday (Thursday?) If so, funnily enough, I was stood next to him when he made the phone call. He said something about some suspension bearings, but I wasn't paying much attention.

So far I'm well satisfied with the 03 plate C5 I bought off him..
