All sorts of little niggles are showing up now. Nothing major and all electronic.

Nearside wing mirror wont index in reverse, just sits there wobbling back and forth when reverse is selected and wont be budged by door button.

Rear widows have a mind of their own and pick and choose which buttons will operate them.

I started today with 600 miles on the odometer and the fuel guage showing half a tank.

Hi,

Seem to be having a run of problems with different cars over the last couple of years.... Wonder whether these symptoms mean anything to anyone...

- starter motor turns freely. But doesn't fire, almost like the code hadn't been entered but that's not relevant on my car, no immobiliser keypad

- the fuel gauge doesn't reflect the half tank I...

Does it start on ether spray? First check that. If so, then you have a fuel pump control issue - the pumps themselves seldom stop dead.

Should the car not even cough on ether spray, check the cambelt. If it's undamaged and taut, then I strongly urge to replace the positive terminal.

Made a start to do the timing belt on my S2 Xantia 1.9 TD.
Got as far as trying to take the covers off the timing belt, couldn't see any more bolts- the bloke I had do the auxiliary belt had knackered up the square hole, so had to turn the engine over slowly and lever the belt off. I then couldn't get the crank pulley off without having to make up...

Getting the crank bolt undone was easy- been cranking starter to do that for nearly 50 years. One thing the early Xants had in their favour- not so much electrical crap hung on them as on the S2. A mechanical auxiliary belt tensioner was always easier than the chuffing great spring affair that is the auto type. WHY ?????. Not necessary or wanted....

My driver's seat is er... somewhat broken and the MOT looms.
I have found a set of leather electric seats but wonder if they will need to be activated before they can be fitted - i.e. to move them on the rails to access the securing bolts?

I had visions of replacing the driver's seat on collection of them but this looks like it may be a problem....

I think that I have cleverly buggered the autochanger.
While cleaning the seats in preparation for fitment I extracted the cassette then replaced it.
Now it won't eject, just makes whirring noises.

Tried to change the center sphere on my C5 today and failed......:-(
The problem was that we couldn't see how to remove the old sphere and get the new one in. Citroens own documentation just says rather glibly unscrew the sphere and remove it, but how? It wont come out or go up through the hole in the subframe the hole aint big enough.

Having just giving up on plug removal for now.. I had further thoughts on this, people below sugested plugs or not it should still start and run plugs good or not..

The bracket that it was sitting on was flexing slightly and was getting a bit to close to the radiator for comfort whilst pulling on the sphere removal tool.

I slid a piece of plywood down in front of the rad and then gave the tool an almighty pull and the sphere walked off. Don't think there was much pressure in...

C2 ABS Pressure Sensor Failure - What Fails?

It appears the pressure sensor is integral to the ABS block. I can't get a pressure reading on the system; the pedal switch is new and works.

Lots of internet discussion of fixes, but the turnaround time to Australia is what gets me - So I'm wondering if the wiring can be spliced to use an external sensor brazed into one of the infeed lines....

I brought my car to the mechanic because the rear gear is hard to pass and fuel consumption is higher than it should. I've been told that the clutch's biting point if too high and must be replaced.

Question: is it true that this problem should increase fuel consumption as well as make gears (the rear one for ex) tougher?

Indeed. A lot of people seem to get the idea that an MOT pass means a car in good health - not at all, it just means that it passes the safety and functional requirements - brakes/suspension working, indicators and lights etc...

The gearbox/engine/clutch or anything else non safety critical could fail the following day after an MOT...

It looks complicated, but in reality its quite simple and well worth doing. Just be sure and get the captive spanner as stated in the thread and be careful not to round off the nuts and also mark one of the pair of pipes which feed the height corrector.. its all to easy to get them mixed up, as I found out.
The cradle is only held on with 2 bolts...

if you wish to leave the H/C in situe undo the two 11mm bolts ( spanner size ) which go through the cradle into the H/C,
then once the cradle is unbolted as Paul say make 200% sure you know how the linkage hooks back into the H/C and linkage/height lever rods on the car

all solved! I traced the wire through to the area where the bonnet meets the window screen, there is a plastic bezle with vents in it which goes all the way across the car, if you release this then you can get access to the wire which was there but had been snipped off, I extended the wire and connected a new end to the bulb housing and bingo it...

Take a close look at the wiring loom that runs over the top of the steering pump, you will need to take off the clips & pull back the plastic conduit, very common for several wires to rot & break in there.

Shelf life of Xantia Spheres

On Friday I ordered a set of spheres for my Activa from AEP in Rutherglen.

They've just been delivered this morning and upon inspecting them I've noticed that a couple of the spheres are date stamped 2 years ago.

Does the quality of a sphere deteriorate from just sitting on a shelf?

Usually they're pretty good and they only stock new spheres...

Another one for testing the spheres if you are unsure. I've had a 4 year old fitted Xantia sphere which needed replacing and also a 22 year old Pleidies regassed one which I didn't bother replacing on the GSA as it's still riding as well as a new one.

The Auxiliary belt on my HDI Xantia chirps for a split second on startup and when I shut it down, none of the pulleys seem noisy and the belt is IMO tight enough, is this the beginning of the bottom pulley failure ?

In that case I don't know, with the impact wrench it tends to come off without having to lock up the engine. Not really got the time to puruse the scrap yards. My local ECP has one in stock and are open until 6, might just have to pay-up and look happy.

I have been having a problem with the dual aircon. When I set it to be the same temperature, it works great on the driver side, nice and cool when asked for, but on the passenger side it blows hot air!

Hi everyone,

What sort of prices are folks paying for their motor insurance? I keep getting quotes around the £500 mark for my 2001 HDI 110 which I think is excessive, seeing as my super quick Saab 9-5 was only £300 odd.

I'm 33, licence since 1997, full NCD, no points- I should be a really good proposition for them!

Xsara Picasso engine choice?

Hi,

I'm looking at getting a Xsara Picasso on my return to the UK. I've narrowed it down to either a 2004-05 2.0l HDI or a similar aged 1.6 HDI 110BHP. If I get the 2.0l I'll have it remapped. I'm thinking of the Exclusive model but my head is saying get the 2.0l HDI.

Does anyone know what the RPM at 70MPH is likely to be for both Vehicles?...

Id go for the 2.0 over the 1.6 any day of the week, more for reliability & easier to work on.
The 2.0 hdi was never available as a 110bhp in the picasso (well not in the UK anyway). All the 2.0's were 90bhp's with Bosch injection systems. None of them had FAP/DPF either.

just ordered new pads as one is worn down to the metal while the other 3 are less than half worn.
Curious, given that the pistons move freely and nothing seems to be stuck.

Get it put onto a Lexia ASAP for a diagnostic session. The ECU for the ES9J4S is quite sophisticated and includes misfire detection, so if its misfiring it will tell you and should identify which cylinder(s) as well.

My xantia S2 110hdi has a split intercooler pipe that i have repaired several times but with this heat its not lasting a couple of days.

I was wondering if an intercooler pipe from a Series 1 xantia would fit my Series 2 HDI?

It quiet interesting how much pressure is in these pipes when you rev the engine and i couldn't believe how much...

Hi need to get my Zanty working for mot but still can't get drivers door to unlock from dead lock.
when you put key in lock it unlocks all the doors apart drivers one or i should say won't take the deadlock off the button pops up like it is but the handle on outside or inside don't do anything.

where abouts is the deadlock mechanism located in...

Hi it unlocks from it with key/fob and button pops up on drivers door and others well didnt today as battery flat so charging that.

Hi Guys, got a bit of a problem with my blower heater ! My C5 has seperate heaters for either side of the car. The left blower is sticking on hot and can take a few car journies with it set on 16 degrees for it to finally release itself and blow cold.

Damaged outer sphere, how robust are they ?

Just a general question.
I haven't had a lot of luck with spheres lately, just recieved a new front set (3) and one is damaged. Looks like it was dropped and bent the first turn of the thread. Damage to the plastic cover and missing o ring implies done before packing. Who cares send it anyway.

These look like cannonballs but are they as strong....

Good point, I maight as a friend in the UK to search the scrapyards for me and see if he can find a steel nut, such as rear centre sphere fitting, once off the car can be used to do this.
Or as Pleiades have, a thread cutter/cleaner, but sadly they only use them and don't sell them.
