Xantia HDI Aux belt chirps

Post by Stewart(oily) »

The Auxiliary belt on my HDI Xantia chirps for a split second on startup and when I shut it down, none of the pulleys seem noisy and the belt is IMO tight enough, is this the beginning of the bottom pulley failure ?

Probably.... run your hand over the face of the pulley and see if it comes away rusty.

Yes, a nice coat of powdery rust, visiting the scrapyard this week, are these the same for all HDI 2.0 engines ?

Stewart - I'm going down the same road (see other thread). Mine has been making noises for a fair while (time and distance) but I think the time has come. Looking down from the top of the engine it looks as if the crank pulley is slightly out of alignment. 122,000 seems quite a low mileage. The pulley seems to be on a number of HDi engines part number is 0515 V6

Just a thought, the crank pulley bolt is a b*@@£r to undo especially if the engine is cold. Before I got a compressor and impact gun I remember having fun and games getting one of these bolts undone. Could be fun in a scrap yard situation. If it is still one of the few remaining take it off yourself establishments then make sure you go "tooled up".

Just been for a cycle ride to the scrapyard, there are a couple there, Xsara HDI and a small Pug, the best looking pulley is on a car with another parked on the roof :)
I have a DeWalt electric rattle gun for scrapyard duties, do these later engine/gearboxes still have a hole on the top of the bellhousing where I can see/lock the flywheel ?

8mm hole under the starter motor IIRC, mind you I've never managed to get a 8mm dia dowel in it, the one I have is just over 7mm dia.
Good luck with the extraction operation, a new one looks to be £72 from AEP or £69.60 from Eurocarparts, what price does the scrapyard want?

Not that one under the starter, I have a special tool for that one :) On the XUDs I used to have an accomplice hold a large screwdriver between the ring gear teeth to counterhold the flywheel while I heave away on the pulley end, I am a friend of my local scrappers so get "mates" prices :)

In that case I don't know, with the impact wrench it tends to come off without having to lock up the engine. Not really got the time to puruse the scrap yards. My local ECP has one in stock and are open until 6, might just have to pay-up and look happy.
