Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Hi
went out in the car( 306 1.6) the other day after 5 miles, the engine was really hot pulled over and the engine red hot but the rad was cold!!
Thermostat i thought got a new the one with the plastic housing, pit on the car just same (hot engine,cold rad) put Thermostat in a bowl of boiling water nothing happen....

hi all, got some problems with my brakes 1997 406 2.1 150k, occasionally when driving the pedal becomes stiff and unresponsive and i really have to stamp on it to slow down, its only started over the last couple of weeks but prior to that i found it happened when rolling into a parking space slowly. the fluid level is ok, any ideas welcome, thanks...

why would an injector siddenly start weeping from a belt slip, if it was not weeping before hand,

for the timming out to damage the stem seals it will have bent valve/s,

are you sure the belt only sliped/jumped 1 tooth or so,

first thing i would do is re/check the belt and mainly pump timming,,

Hi all!

Picked up my 08 plate 308 1.6 120 sport the other day to replace my knackered 206.

I do a fair amount of driving to work so I need bluetooth phone calling and I like to be able to use my ipod too. In the 206 I fitted a Sony MEX-BT3700U which does everything I need. I removed it from the 206 with the intention of putting it in the 308....

Sorry, for about 2 weeks now i have had a bit of a problem with my car, it will run fine and then even when i have my foot on the accelerator, it wont respond and will actually lower the rev count, until i cant go anywhere.

Usually, if i then leave it for another 5-10 minutes, it will start up again.

Hi, using a galetto lead and a laptop. Plug it in to diagnostic socket under dash, remove my file from ecu and upload new remap. Very simple for a power upgrade and cheers for the figures.

Sigh....it's been a crap day :(

The 405 was getting hard to start recently, so I'd thought I'd fit a set of new glow plugs this afternoon. First plug that came out left the tip in the cylinder head. I tried getting it out with a pair of long nose pliers. All I managed to do was push it back into the chamber. I can still see it, but it's no longer...

Hi Evilally & thanks for your reply. I've since managed to get the head off ok.. I ended up taking the starter motor out as it was only held in by three 8mm Allen head bolts plus it gave me a much better view. I found the crank timing lock out hole quickly once that was out of the way. The lock out pin size is 8mm by the way. Removing the front...

Hi, have had a lot of help off this forum with my 607 hdi. Am after someone local too me who could have a look at it and try too find wots putting it into limp home mode!!!

I think on the vanbus (upto 2004) one there is not much interaction between ABS and engine.

I have limp home mode on my 607 once. It was due to a vacuum pipe falling off. There is a kind of vacuum manifold at the back of the engine bay, in the middle, up high near the bonnet hinge line. All of the vacuum pipes seem to meet...

The independent garage has apparently quoted a price of £1000.00, and I guess this does not cost in the dual mass flywheel if it's needed, that's probably more money.

I have a 306 estate with a bosch wiper motor that has now been replaced twice,

It needs doing again becasue its wiping really slowly and sounds very rough.
However, it will only wipe if I wiggle the blue relay.

Does this mean the wiring is dodgey as well as the motor or could it be the relay. I dont want to waste time replacing the motor if its...

Inspect the relay for water (if you can take its lid off without breaking it, do so)

It's not unknown (usually the hatch though) for them to fill with water, which corrodes them internally. This also can blow a fuse which upsets the instrument panel too (from memory when this fuse blows only the alt charge light works)

O/S front spring replaced at garage 7 days ago. (Thanks road bumps! :evil: )

Since the repair there is a knocking / rattle which the garage said was the anti roll bar link, - replaced but did not cure.

Hi people, I have a 1997 expert van that has been working fine for years since I upgraded it to a turbo (using 1995 xantia engine) with much help from this forum in 2005.

It does have an annoying feature of the key getting out of sync with the imobiliser so you have to enter the code using tedious counting-flashing-led process. This happens once...

I have a 2.0hdi 4 speed auto and i'm getting abou 36mpg according to the computer. I've been driving like an old man too!!!!!

I live in a rural area with not to much traffic and I avoid towns like the plague, I also don't drive very fast, my average is just under 50 mpg with 60+ driven carefully on a run - it will do me :D

I run my tyres a little under inflated as after the XM the ride feels very hard :(

hello i have just bought a pergeot 306 02 plate 70,000 miles good looking motor. checked under the hood and noticed rust around rocker cover also there is a thick rubber seal which i prized back and more rust where the cover joins the engine what could this be cheers .

Sounds like the cover is oil tight - very unusual, most don't rust because they are oily.

When you start her from cold she fires up instantly and idles smoothly with no smoke for a couple of minutes (until I think when the glow plugs go out) then the idle becomes rough and grey smoke out the back. Hi, the inlet valve clearances on my '03 partner 1.9 diesel have closed right up so I cant get any feeler gauge in. I was checkin gthem because of a hard starting problem after covering all the other bases. I need to get the cam out to replace the shims.

On 'some' of the DW8 engines one of the belt cover bolts also serves as a water pump belt.

Release any pressure in the cooling system (engine cold obviously!) by removing the pressure cap before taking said bolt out.

I put a Xantia TD into an Expert D back in 2005. Having just looked at my pump (see alarm/immobiliser thread) I notice I have an extra widget with some wires from a connector which was presumably used on the Xantia but there is nothing in the Expert wiring loom to correspond. Indeed, in an IDI (InDirect Injection) engine (of which the XUD is) it is the pre-heating which is vital. Only the turbos had post-heating. The NA engines lived happily without it....

hi all, new to the site, got a question about my 1997 406 2.1, the aux belt tensioner snapped a couple of months ago and chewed the belt in the pulleys, driving to work this morning and it went again, the question is, can i buy a shorter belt and bybass the tensioner pulley altogether, just want to know if anyone has done this before and how much...

Well, that's good Jim, at least it's all working again now.

One known problem on the 2.1TD Xantia is that there are two sizes of belts depending on the make of A/C Compressor fitted. Use the wrong one and the belt will never tension correctly.

I have no idea if this applies to the 406 but it's worth a look...

Hi All,

I've seen an ad for one of these and I'm going to look at it. I've never owned a Peugeot before (mainly Citroen's). What sort of things should I specifically look for on this model? The guy I spoke to said it's had a new bottom pulley. It's done 79K miles. 9 month MOT, no tax. It's apparently a clean car - but I'll be the judge of that...

I used to own a 53reg 206 2.0HDi, it was a great car.

There isnt many things to look for on a 206, clonks from the rear suspension can be a problem, so listen for noises from the back.

The pulley its had replaced is also a common problem, i assume the belt was changed at the same time too.

The radio on my newly acquired 406 Hdi is rubbish, it will only pick up strong local stations, does it have an aerial amplifier does anyone know?

Yes, I think that probably has something to do with it, plus the one on the XM is about 1/4 wave so resonates around the FM frequencies.

I've got an ECC85 somewhere, do you have to take the dashboard out to fit it? Could just be that the pins are dirty :D I will see how it is on the road, if not good I will look for a preamp.

Hi ive joined the forum to sell my peugeot 206 gti, it failed the mot on the rear axle, it comes with 2 engines none of which are in the car as i was in the middle of swapping them over for a lower millage engine, but then made the decision to sell the car.
It a 1999 v reg car in moonstone blue, its the 140ps model, it has the full sp kit on it,...

Hi!

When coming back from a Computer Fair yesterday my HDi 406 110 suddenly gave out a puff of smoke from under the bonnet near the alternator etc, as I was pulling into a lay-by for a coffee, then the centre console flashed up BATTERY CHARGE FAULT with the ign. light lit and two beeps from behind the dash!!!

Yes - it happened again - Snap - Ping and Beep-Beep!!! again in Ikea's Car Park in M. K. on the way into work from my sister's in Saffron Walden!!!

I got the breakdown lot out again and this time the a/c pulley had jammed solid!!! £102.50 poorer and four hours later I was on my way again with the replacement compressor from fleabay fitted...

307 Hdi 110 02 plate

It has been having problems with intermittent turbo for a while now, I solved the problem temporarily by replacing the turbo boost solenoid but now its back again. Also when the MAF is connected the revs are limited as if there is a blockage. Engine management and esp warning comes on randomly aswell.

What else can I look at...

put a plate between the two (with two holes for the bolts to go through)
no more EGR
on the 8V engines it's a bit fiddly due to the location of the two bolts though

I've got the rear beam off the 405 and I'm busy getting it de-rusted and cleaned up. So far I've got all the brake pipes and brackets off, the roll bar off and the little bolts and washer thingies that hold the torsion bars in. Can anyone comment on how the torsion bars come out.....I was under the impression they should slide out once the washers...

Hi Folks

The heater in my 406 is brilliant especially as it seems to have an auxilliary heater which is giving me heat out of the dash vents after about 200 yards or two minutes! The problem is though that its only from the dash vents, if I direct it to the floor very little happens, maybe a slight increase in temperature but nothing like the...

ok belt decided to shred itself due to alignment problem on tensioner pulley .

taking that tensioner off was interesting however its not a good design realy the bush through the middle has got needle bearing marks indented in it -amazing how it could have done this to a hardened shaft

Hello, I have this Sreg diesel 306 pas, non-T... heater blower fan was working fine, cold wether, had it on most of time... next day, suddenly not working at all... dead. I've recently bought a 1998 reg 1.4 306 and since buying it I've found out that they are prone to running and idleing problems. My problem is slightly different, it idles and drives 100% however every now and then it will cut out completely. If i'm stopped at traffic lights for example most of the time it will sit the idleing fine but sometimes it...

Hello, I am trying to change an alternator on a Sreg pug306 1.9 diesel PAS. It has eccentric belt tensioner...I cant undo the allun hex in the centre/off centre...I have been bashing away with impact driver and am now begining to damage it. Am I missing something...is it left thread? Any help would be really gratefully recieved.. cheers.

I think these freezing conditions are effecting my car. After about 3 hours of locking my car up for the night i look out the window and see the lights are flashing.

how do i disconnect the alarm. i see under the bonnet there is a key for the alarm and it is set to off.
so is there a fuse i could pull out or something?

I cannot recall the proper procedure to disconnect these, it will not be a simple case of a fuse for obvious theft reasons.

I have a small leak seaping out on the inlet manifold on my 306 hdi (towards the right of the manifold)

I just wondered if there was a gasket that could be replaced?

Also what could cause the oil to seap out of there?

from the pic it looks more like the joint between the inlet manifold and the elbow rather than between the inlet manifold and cylinder head

which is good because that also looks a lot easier to change than having to take the inlet manifold off.

I'm not familiar with the 90bhp engine, is there a rubber section joining the turbo outlet to that...

During the week, Robyn, my daughter, switched on her rear wiper whilst the screen was covered in ice. Being as the rear wiper arm is just flimsy plastic, it promptly broke at the boss where it attaches to the wiper motor spindle.

Our factors don't stock them Main Dealer Only Mate...

my brother inlaw has a V reg 406 which service box calls it a restly break 5TPES 2.0 HDI 110 BVM5,

his heater fan packed up so i sent him a pair of the usual transistors that fix the XANT fan speed control unit's,

I'm a little confused about the union nut that goes into the rear cylinders on my 405. They seem a bit bigger than the standard 10mm union nuts I've bought. Does anyone know what size these are and where to get them? No mention on Servicebox, and I don't see any other sizes readily available online.

As a usual rule of thumb, I tend to get everything done around October (even if its a bit early) to ensure I do not have to do much over the winter months (certainly till late Jan / early Feb) , although there are exceptions obviously.
