ZX - rear screen de-mister

by RichardW » 31 Oct 2002, 14:07

First post

Chris,
Rear screen heaters are painted onto the glass, and can be easily damaged by putting things in the boot which can scratch them. They run in parallell, from one big positive 'electrode' at one side to a big negative 'electrode' at the other. You can buy repair paint from Halfords etc, examine the wires that are not working, and look...

My ZX has always had a problem with the rear screen de-mister, since I bought it. The problem is that some of the horizontal wires in the screen are obviously passing current and de-misting, whereas some of them aren't, when the de-mister is on. I'm wondering how this works (as i've never pulled one to bits before). I had assumed that the...

The following site describes the BX hydraulic system, but appart from the hydractive parts, the systems the same as the Xantia.

Hi,
I have been reading comments on this forum for some time and have been gratefull for advice that many of you have taken the trouble to give.
I have a Xantia with a hydraulic pressure problem and hope that some one may have experienced similar problems or are able to point me in the right direction. The problem is with the accumalator in that...

That may be a curly one. I don't know if the statute of limitations would apply. That may sound a bit melodramatic but that law is used universally to duck & weave around things.
I would suggest as your safest bet, writing to Citroen UK and asking the question. A written response would then give you something to stick under a dealers nose &...

It's an auxilliary heater unit. It's fitted to HDi-engined cars due to the fact that the diesel engine is so efficient that it doesn't produce enough waste heat to operate the heating system satisfactorally in cold conditions. I know they are fitted to all HDi's over here in Sweden, bur I'm suprised Citroën though it necessary to fit then to U.K....

Hello everyone!
I went outside today before it started wazzing it down with rain, and did the weekly checks on the magic carpet, in my case a Xantia HDi. Anyway, when i had finished i started up the old beast to check the hydraulic fluid and i noticed a very strange noise, at first i thought it was the cooling fans going crazy, but then the...

Heater not doing its job

by Dave Burns » 20 Oct 2002, 17:47

First post

Check the rubber pipes going to the matrix at the bulkhead are hot, if they are then the linkages that drive the flaps in the heater unit could be at fault.
If the pipes are not hot then there could be an air lock, (quite likely as you have changed the coolant), or a blocked matrix.
Dave
P.s Alan, there is no valve in the heater circuit, heat is...

Hi
I have had a look throught the old posts but havent seen anything regarding heater not warming the inside of the car, I have seen that there is a problem with the heater matrix on these cars.
My problem is that the heater isnt warming up very much and from past experience with diesels they usually warm the cabin up very quickly.
I flushed and...

ABS Brake Warning Light "FIXED"

by David Goddard » 20 Oct 2002, 16:12

Have had a long running problem with the ABS light coming on - usually when driving very slowly. It would remain on until I turned the engine off. On re-starting it would be on for the first 100m,
then after self diagnostic checks, go off. Would be OK for a few days then the same problem would re-appear. I checked all sensors all read 1,050 ohms....

Your system should pressurise automatically. Make sure the release screw is tightened. Put the lever to the highest position. Let the engine tick over for a while. If after a time it still doesn't move, release the pressure screw, drop the suspension and disconnect the high pressure hose from the reservoir and pour in some LHM with a funnel and...

I have just replaced the front spheres on my 1995 1.8 16v Xantia and all is not well.
Firstly, I dropped the suspension and released pressure from the small bolt near the accumulator sphere.
Secondly, I removed the old spheres then replaced with new ones.
Lastly I started the engine and attempted to raise the suspension to full height, only to...

Cannot open rear xsara door

by David Goddard » 20 Oct 2002, 16:02

First post

I had a similar problem on a rear door of my 1997 Xantia - totally deadlocked.
It was quite a job to fix it.
Took out the back seat, removed the door trim, removed the connecting rods, removed the outside door handle, then managed (with small light and mirror) managed the find a release catch.
With the door open - it was no problem to remove and...

The rear door does not open. When pulling the handle there is no resistance. I can hear the central locking and the deadlock motor operating inside the door.
I have removed the door panel and can follow the linkages almost as far as the lock, but the window guide gets in the way.
The Haynes manual describes a procedure for removing a faulty lock,...

Injection pump timing (Bosch / Bx)

by Dave Burns » 20 Oct 2002, 01:14

First post

When you say you have changed the pump sprocket, you do of course mean you have used one designed for the Bosch pump, and not put the Lucas sprocket on the Bosch (if it fits), the keyway may not correspond with the timing holes.
Also the Lucas injectors have a much lower opening pressure than Bosch injectors, opening pressures play a major role in...

I'm in the process of changing the fuel pump on my Td Bx from a Lucas (it died) to a bosch (from a ZX-non keypad). I've changed the pump sprocket, timed the engine with bolts on the pump sprocket, cam wheel and fly wheel and have managed to start the engine. However the engine will only start with ether and will only run with the throttle held...

Xantia Air Bag Light

by Dave Burns » 19 Oct 2002, 18:56

First post

No sensors under front seat's, what there is are orange connectors going to the seatbelt pre-tensioners, these are pyrotechnical devices similar to the charge in the air bag, they are also triggered by the same controller as the air bag, which is why they cause the airbag light to glow when there is a poor connection in their circuit.
Cut the...

I have a 1996 Xantia Turbo-Diesel. For about a year now the air bag has been coming on the first time I do a hard right turn. Firstly it flashes and then stays on until I start the car again.
I've had this problem for about a year now, but don't want to spend £60 on the investigation. They said it could cost thousands to sort out.
The problem...

Doseur, doser valve - What and where is it?

by JohnD » 18 Oct 2002, 23:47

First post

It's the 'thing' that's operated by the brake pedal. I believe there are some replacement seals available, but usually a fault calls for a replacement unit.

Last post

Haynes is very vague on this and I think is even calls it something else. Cann it be flushed out. I have been told it is the source of a pulsating brake pedal. At its worst it used to create a sort of ABS pumping effect under heavy braking. What is the problem and how to fix it?

Hi,
Quick question - how low do you let the tank go before you fill it up? Check how much diesel you're putting in per fill-up. I'm one of those drivers who lets it go until the light's just about coming on before filling, and that way usually get about 43 litres (nearly 10 gallons) in, but if not, then you might only be putting 9 gals in. If this...

Rear swinging arm

by JohnD » 18 Oct 2002, 02:19

First post

Hi John - £1000??? They're taking the p---. To do them yourself would cost you around £25 per side. If you ignore the worn bearings, in the end the arms will be sufficiently damaged that you won't be able to just do the bearings. You'll need new arms as well.

Last post

Since posting the thread re. uneven tyre wear, it seems as if the most possible cause is exactly as people here said in that the rear swinging arm bearings are probably worn along with the arms themselves.
Since the job looks like costing around £1000+++ can anyone tell me how dangerous it is to drive around with worn bearings/swinging arms? Or...

Hi,
To be honest I'm much more fond of the old aproach.... Keep using it until you notice that it needs changing! If you have no problems...

Xantia, Windscreen leak, intermitent wiper fail

by andy_brookes » 17 Oct 2002, 19:44

Just remembered something else wrong! from time to time a yellow warning light appears on the dash, its on the right of the speedo and revs and looks like a light bulb, but not to sure. Have looked in the manual but it does not mention this warning light at all. Citroen seem to be brilliant!!! at keeping handbooks up to date!

The car is a '94 VSX TD with hydractive.
