Xantia wipers

Unread post by jemboyd »

Does anyone have any idea why the wiper nearer the edge of the windscreen 'trembles' as it goes up and across the screen, yet wipes normally on its way down - it seems that the blade is not 'leaning ' during the upward stroke, but the old blade did this, and I have changed it, and it's still happening.

The blade is not square with the windscreen, and is not turning over. Get a pair of pliers on the wiper arm, and CAREFULLY twist the arm a bit to get the blade squarer to the screen.

When you say the blade is not 'square', I take it you mean that the blade is not following the contour of the windscreen, and bending the arm will help??

I think he means that the blade is not perpendicular to the screen. When it wipes one way it should drag across the screen, and then when it changes direction it should be able to drag in the opposite direction.

Try a new blade before bending the arm - I'd put money on the fact that your blade is old and worn and "bent over " so that it doesn't turn over on each stroke. When parked it is bent over one way and it becomes set like that so it doesn't turn over on the up stroke.

Is it the arm that is a bit siezed? Have you tried lifting it and lubricating the hinge and spring underneath? Is the nut that holds it on to the spline fully tight?? Can't think of much else that could be wrong!!
