Non-Haynes workshop manuals

Post by adrianeaton »

Hi all
Does anyone know of a workshop manual that covers the Xsara Coupe VTS? Haynes specifically excludes the VTS and I don't know how much the braking system and other performance related items varies between the 1.8 VTR (which is covered) and the 2.0 VTS. I suspect the differences aren't that great and I'll be checking part numbers to try and confirm.
Anybody know if other PSA vehicles have the same engine that is covered by Haynes in 167BHP form, eg 306? I know the engine is similar to the Mi16 unit but is rated less powerful and I imagine the differences in 10 years of production could be significant!

Its the same engine in the 306 GTi16 or S16 I believe.
Also the 206 GTi.
Is is quicker than the BX 16v ?? <img src=icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle>

Hi Jon
We pick the car up on Saturday - we test drove it a few weeks ago when we were on holiday at our parents houses in Bristol so know the local roads well. For those from that area it's out on the A38 South of Bristol and runs down past Bristol airport and through Churchill - it's all rather hilly! There's a section where it's 3 lanes, 2 going uphill where you can really see how well the car pulls - and it Bl**dy well does!!
The bare 'figures' quoted would indicate the Xsara to be slightly slower than the BX 8.0 0-60mph rather than 7.5 for the BX. Top speed quoted is about the same, but the major difference to my mind is the ease of extracting the performance from the Xsara - it doesn't matter if the engine is at 2,000 or 4,000 revs, it feels like it wants to pull like a train from any revs rather than the BX which requires a dropped gear (or 2!) before serious performance is available. By being easier to extract the performance I think in real world terms it's probably 'quicker'.
Still keeping the BX anyway so might be able to do direct comparison at some point! The Xsara's quoted as 167BHP on 95RON unleaded, compared to my catted BX which is probably about 150BHP but doesn't seem noticably slower than other 16V's in the club that are nearly all modified in the exhaust and induction areas where as mine is totally standard.

Damn!
Just checked the Haynes web site and the 306 manual excludes the GTI6 and doesn't mention the S16 (and since that's rarer than the GTI6 is even less likely to be covered!). Checked the 206 manual and that excludes all 16V engines fitted!!
Me thinks Haynes have been doing the absolute minimum to keep their manuals up to date from previous models and haven't got into stripping engines down on any of these models.
Anybody know how much an 'official' Citroen manual is likely to be? I've got a set for the BX which cost me £1 but I don't think they'll be that cheap from the dealers!
