Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

I would appreciate some help with my 2001 Xantia 1.8 16v.
I have just taken it to my cousins garage as the engine diagnostic light is now permanently on. Engine has been cutting out regularly upon braking then restarting. Whist on motorway other day light came on and stayed on. At Garage he read the fault codes but said that the numbers dont seem...

Looking at those codes, i'd guess that 255 applies to diesel engines, but the rest say Lambda sensor to me...and possibly the heater and sensor circuit shorted inside the sensor (or a good old wire break)

Solex basic type 30-30Z2 cit on the 150A standard 62Bhp 4speed lump
Solex basic type 32-34Z2 cit on the 150C 'enhanced' 72Bhp 5speed lump

I'd say any carb that goes on your inlet manifolfd - not TOO big ported - will fit your engine. The only trouble you might run...

My Xantia HDi 90 has a reluctant rear boot electro locking device. I have removed it and given it a quick once over, but it seems to not always thow with enough force, so that eventually the boot will be locked when the doors aren't and vice versa... is there an easy fix, or do I need to buy a new locking electro unit?

I've just bought this last week & though it drives sweetly, i do have a few Q's as i am somewhat new to ZX's:

a) On bumpy roads i get a 'loose' sounding clonking from the rear suspension area, worse also on lefthand corners though i hear nothing on smooth roads ?

b) The horn doesn't work, can someone just tell me where it is located, lol ?

You have rear-front and rear-rear mounts - two of each. The rear-front ones which you see in the ebay link are the ones which usually go.

I suppose you could renew all four mounts while you're under there for total peace of mind, but I've only ever needed to replace the rear-front ones on any of the ZXs I've owned :shock:

Hi I bought a C5 2.2 HDI estate last august and after a few weeks noticed when cold the car had a slight rocking motion, took it back told nothing wrong (as per usual) ran out of warranty problem got worse then found out it was the injectors .Cost me £600 to have them recond car had only done 76000 miles when I bought it .So make sure if you test...

Not sure if its connected to my earlier post on central locking but here goes.

Car started fine this morning and wife ran it to work ok, she thinks oil and water warning lights didn't go out but not 100%, its only about a mile to work.

When she came out the car would not start, turn ignition on everything seemed fine, heater plug light went out...

Thanks thats a good tip, too late now but i'll be up with the sun.

Edited to say thanks for the tip, I used a bulb and eventually found a trapped wire behind the fuse box which had split and was shorting out.

The plastic clip on the end or the clutch pedal broke so I bought a new one and fitted it ( what a nasty job it was as well) Then after a few miles the cable popped out of the new clip. I stripped it and reconnected it again and yes after a few miles it popped out again.

Any ideas what is the cause, would a new cable sort the problem out or could...

Problem solved if in doubt do the lot. So have put in new clutch kit, new cable and a new clip.

That should sort it!

I can now do a clutch clip in under 10 minutes.

Is this a normally cold car. Example - Outside Temp 8C. I drive the car for a distance of 10 miles. Heater off. After 5 miles the Temp Gauge has not reached the half way point. It's at times like this that you need a handy OBD2 fault code reader which may tell you what happened and then allow you to clear the fault from memory.

I've just got myself such a thing, although it won't work on my C5 Hdi.

Could anyone put me in touch with a shop that sells a sphere removal tool, I've been trying to remove a Xantia front center sphere, that's not for budging. I followed a link to but I couldn't see any mention of the tools on there website and with it being late Saturday when I phoned they where shut.

where do i find the valve and is it an easy jod to fix?

Having had fun and games with our ZX which had always seemed to have poor rear brakes I can say that loads of TLC works wonders and will produce remarkable improvements.

Obviously cylinders must be in good condition - but I found seized adjusters (could be overhauled at no cost - and re-greased (making sure to get grease under the star wheel...

I swapped the cambelt on the Activa today. Not a difficult job. A bit fiddly perhaps.

When I lined up the timing marks as per BoL (for the XM Turbo Engine as the Xantia BoL makes no reference to the Turbo engine at all) I found that the timing hole in the crank pulley was a good 60 odd degrees off the timing datum on the crankcase when the cam...

Success! I was offered a tip to use a solid crank pulley from an old 8V XU engine. I had one off an XU5JA and tried it.

In the event, my timing was spot-on.

A perfect timing aid for all of us with the rubber oulleys. Any solid XU pulley should do for this and the scrappies are full of them.

I still can't find a Manual for my VTS and couldn't find my previous posting.

Due to my dealer using second hand head bolts on a warranty repair :evil:
I now have the head off my Xsara VTS and I am looking for the tension settings for the timing belt tensioners the thermostat housing and the engine mount bolts if possible. and also the rocker...

I visited Euro Car Parts yesterday to buy a few new genuine sphere's for my V6 as they offer some of them from as little as £21. However when the parts guy brought them out I was somewhat put off by the date of manufacture showing them as being FIVE years old :shock: (apparently all of the genuine sphere's they have are old stock from this...

my van has failed its mot on uneven rear brake application.(o/s/r low)

i have free up the load sensor linkage and renewed the wheel cylinder to the o/s/r. i have been back for a retest and the reading is still the same, low on the o/s/r, i was told the difference allowed is 24% mine is reading 60%.
can i asume...

I assume that the difference is side to side!

I would doubt it being the load sensing valve as this sends pressure to both wheels the same.

I would strip out the brakes on both sides and give it all a good clean up, then put it back together making sure that all is moving freely, adjust up the handbrake evenly on both sides and that...

I have attempted to search the forums but on dial upright now taking a long time.

I need to replace the forward front bushes on the Volcane.

Powerflex do not list them but offer some to fit a 306.

I have just contacted Skip brown who can supply rubber ones at £25 + vat each (x4!!). Not keen on that.

I just need to know if the 306 powerflex...

I recently replaced the wishbones on my ZX, cost £18.00 each, plus VAT, including all new bushes and lower ball joints. Apparently the part is common with Pug 309.
Changed in about hour and a half. I could not see the point in changing just the bushes, especially as these pattern parts were as good as the originals. All that effort and skinned...

Hi all.Its my first post so i'll try & be brief.
Have had problems with auxillary belt jumping one tooth either way on the crankshaft pulley more evident when engine is cold,car is just coming upto 90,000 miles by the way.
cambelt,water pump along with aux belt & tensioner (inc tiny shockabsorber) were changed at 60k (belts were GATES type) 1st...

Would be the same engine as found on some late Xantiae.

JMD is right : have the crank pulley (on engine) checked - and do it ASAP !
The pulley could be cracked, with the risc it will suddenly split and possibly penetrate nearby components during drive :shock:

Erm my 'new' ZX roof arial broke off in my hand yer oner :oops: It was up so straight it made an awfull lot of wind noise, so I lubed it up and tried to lower the angle and SNAP !! the base holder broke in half. :roll: Soooo - -

I think it is a common problem as the cars age. The ultrasonic sensors get over sensitive as they age. Had the problem on my XM when I got it. Got a new pair of sensors from the stealers and it has never had a false alarm since (3+ years). They were surprisingly cheap I seem to recall - £25 mark - I expected them to be more.

I've got a friend with an early N reg 95 Xantia.
He says it's a mix of mk1 and mk2.
He'd like to confirm if he has anti sink or not, he has a center sphere at the back.
So, did mk1's have a center sphere at the back?

I bought this car with intentions of swaping the engine with a spare HDi engine i had.

I'd guess that it's not worth a whole lot, probably around the £3k mark if it wasn't for the engine being a tad dead .... with the dead engine you're down to salvage value, which with the mileage might be a couple of hundred pounds.

How difficult a job is it to replace the head of a 1.9 TD Xantia?

Some history:
Last year, cam belt snapped a week before it was due to be changed, very annoying.

I was seriously strapped for cash, so went for the sledge hammer repair technique of replacing the camshaft and caps, and a new belt.

Back again with more problems with my car !

Its a 1998 2.0i petrol Citroen Synergie

It now wont start at all, there is now no spark at all, and tracing back through the coil, there doesnt appear to be any signals coming into the coil pack at all, and i'm thinking that the crankshaft position sensor has failed, but the trouble is that i cant find...

Hi All,

Does anyone know if ZX door seals are available as an after market part ?
There's a chunk out of the drivers side seal on our 5 door but Citroen want £75 + VAT for a replacement !

Instead use the small bottle with a brush in the lid :wink:

Silicone makes it near impossible to do respray jobs on paintworks, so silicone stains all over should be avoided.

I've searched but not come across this particular problem.

My RF plip on the Activa will arm and disarm the alarm and operate the central locking no problem at all but it will not unlock the immobiliser.

I read in the handbook about reinitialising it by operating it with the ignition on with the non-plip key in. This worked once and I was able...

I thought the C5 uses a CAN BUS for it's various electrical systems and so, when looking to buy an OBD2 engine fault code reader, I've been looking for units that can read a car with CAN.

However, a seller on Ebay told me that as far as he knows the C5 doesn't use CAN but uses ISO protocol.

I bought a pair of 283mm-24mm Bendix discs the other day, but they do not fit!

I've just had new spheres all round, fluid change and rear HCU changed.

The front suspension was feeling as if it had gone firm. Having had them changed two weeks ago it didn't feel as significant improvement as previous change had done. Was out last night and was feeling every cats-eye etc.

Could this be that the replacement spheres are suspect...

No but it connects to the anti-roll bar either directly or indirectly with a plastic link.

I use things like spray grease and paintbrushes on my BX to get oil and grease into awkward places. Oil may be best first time on the Xantia one as I believe its a rather more substantial setup than a BX and has some bearings in it - so oil may penetrate...

I've just noticed that the passenger front brake caliper has a slight Hyd weap from the gater where the hand brake connects. I've not had chance to strip it down yet, is it likely going to be a new caliper?

Well had the car in the garage and while it was in there they discovered that the wheel rocks.

They showed me the problem and they say it is where te lower ball joint inserts it self into the hub carrier.

have you ever heard of the hub carrier being worn or have this problem

the ball joint it self was replaced about 7 months ago by the same...

Had exactly the same problem on a 306. Tightened the pinch bolt and all was fine. I did replace the bolt shortly after though.
it is likely that the hub carrier section where the pinch bolt fits has opened out a little due to the original bolt either not being tightened, or stretching. Either way, it will clamp up again with a new bolt.

It's been my day for noticing things.

If I have the blower running - the speed doesn't matter - and press the footbrake pedal the blower runs faster. Only the first time . . . it's not incremental, or anything. Does this suggest a bad earth somewhere and, if so, where should I start looking?

Hi, I've just put 2 new front spheres on my Xantia,which has got hydractive suspension, but after checking the part number on line , the spheres I've been given are off a non hydractive Xantia estate, will these do or will I need to take them of and get them changed?

Sorry it took so long to reply been real busy.
After testing the car it certainly was very boatish so I got them changed for the hydractive spheres. The reason I never changed the centre sphere as well is purely a financial one, cant afford to replace any more than two at a time.

Being a total C5 novice (in fact, total car novice), I am reading some horror stories about slipping clutches and Fly Wheels exploding.

I have only just bought my C5 2.0 HDI VTR with 60k on the clock and the clutch bite is right at the top with very little play.
Still unsure whether it is actually slipping at all as still getting use to the car....
