1993 ZX 1.9 Petrol Volcane Auto - Blower not working

Post by xsive11 »

Hi,

I've just purchased the above car with a genuine 48,000 miles and everything works perfectly apart from the heater/cooler blower switch.

When the switch is turned, there is no response.

The hot/cold switch works fine so no problem with the heater matrix etc.

I've checked all the fuses and they seem fine.

Could somebody please let me know my next step.

Has anybody else had the same problem?

Cheers

It's a fairly common problem.

First point of call would be the speed regulating resistor, which clips onto the front bulkhead underneath the windscreen scuttle. These are fairly cheap and easy to change.

Failing that, look for a new blower. Most likely second-hand. This is accessed from the inside of the passenger footwell.

I had the blower fail on my 1994 1.4i - the resistor was replaced, but didn't last long. Stiff blowers are probably the major cause of the resistor blowing! Neither is a particularly difficult job - well, can't be if I did them...

I've had the Volcane for 5 years with no problems, so possibly the facelift cars were a bit more robust.

Thanks James. :D

I'll take a visit to the Citroen dealer tomorrow and order a new one.

Thanks for that.

I had a look at their website and it was £15 plus vat.

Citroen just charged me £10 inclusive vat?

Unusually cheaper for a change! :o
