Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Does anyone know if an interior light can be fitted into the back of a 5 door citroen xsara? I've seen them on 3 door versions but I have a 5 door version and don't want to make a hole in the ceiling without knowing if the hole is on the chassis for the rear interior light.

A little guidance please, as my BoL says nothing about how to fit the piston back into the caliper. Had removed caliper to check all OK, as o/s brakes binding a bit, and definitely more so than on n/s. Found a little dirty LHM in caliper, and a bit of play in the sliding mechanism, but nothing obviously wrong. No rust in caliper bore, or on...

As I'm dismantling the LX I want to remove the calipers.
Now am I right in thinking that the doser valve should prevent copious amounts of green blood spraying from the unblocked ends?

Otherwise I'll need 4 lengths of pipe to return any spillage to the resevoir.

Hello All, I m a recent addition to this forum although I ve owned BX s
for a number of years. Now I need a bit of advice concerning
my sons Xant. It s a 2.0 hdi P2 and has just failed the MOT
due to corrosion of a hydraulic pipe.
The pipe in question runs from the pump to a connection on
the steering ram and is corroded where it runs along...

These hydraulic pipes are quite thick walled, would it not be an idea to rub the pipe down and put some under seal on to get through MOT then change the pipe - ?

The pipe is not too bad Ive only taken them off once an engine has come out, but not changed one in situ, All I can say though is its simple clipped on all round the side of the engine...

Thanks for the response. We disconnected the cables at the gearbox end and the cables moved with the gearlever, but if there are more than 2 cables this still sounds like a possibility. I had heard that Citroens are prone to selector breakage, which also seemed a likely answer.

Hi Kevin,

Why was the pump replaced?

On a 1994 TD with a fully mechanical pump, the most likely cause is that the timing has not been correctly set or that they have fitted the wrong pump. If they fitted an AS3 semi-electronic from a later car it will work but it will be stuck in the fully retarded position with no timing advance with speed....

Citroen do not warranty their Hdi's for vegetable oil at all.
And the 30% is probably only for their newer Hdi's, not the old 2L 90/110bhp ones, so best check that too.

it seems a little stiff, in the mornings i raise it from the lowest level that i park it at, to the maximum driveable setting before going to the normal driving setting. on its way to the top it sticks and makes a creak sound as if it is up against friction.

It looks like the A/C condensor on my Mk1 Xantia has spung a leak.

Yesterday, I noticed a new oil stain on the driveway where the front of the car sits, but the A/C was still working. Today, the compressor is running, but there are bubbles in the sight glass and no cooling.

You talking about a TD or a straight D?

As the D should give you about 50mpg even when driven with 'spirit'.
Theres lots of gubbins in the TD which could be suspect, sadly I would not know where to start, but there are plenty of guys here who know about the TD. Theres really not much to go wrong on the D, clogged filters, or blocked...

a few questions about these, i've not got fully to grips with it. its the ebay connector china made

so far i can see data live on both lexia and proxia

1. is there a way to log data from test drives to make sure it is working right under load. i'm happy looking at live data parked up but thats not the full story

2. where are the ECU software...

yea, lexia cd45 itself extracted fine. however it needs the pps2000 keygen so that it will work. and that is where i get the messages.

i got cd42 of ebay and that just installed and worked fine no keygen needed. i may go back to that if this doesn't work. cd42 is the only version i have ever tried

It does break your heart but like clarksons impreza it is a good idea and in some circumstances it should not be allowed back on the road, i would guess by the very light damage it was probably used in a crime of some sorts or was the gains of crime and was taken to be crushed/broken, think about it, if someones punishement was to have their car...

As the proud owner of a brand new Lexia3 clone, I'm hoisting the distress flags.

Kit came with the 9780.Z5 interface, connecting lead to a standard OBD2 plug and a lead with a USB connector to couple to the laptop. Hangs head in shame, it took five days to find I needed a special lead to couple the OBD connector to the PSA 30 pin one.

Thanks to Steve (Steel City) I found the fault, it was item 3 in my list of possibles - operator error. I simply wasn't pushing the socket into the diagnostic plug hard enough! :oops: It does need a fair amount of force, more than I am normally happy about using on a plastic part.

Still, I now have working Lexia3 and Proxia3 programs. :D

as you look at the engine, running behind it is a pipe app 1 1/2 dia, Which appears to push fit into a unit on the very right corner of the engine.

Yeah it will more than likely be the thermal fuse in the resistor pack, you can replace this or just replace the whole pack.

You get to the resistor pack from under the bonnet.

You need to remove the wiper arm then the plastic trim that attaches under the windscreen, then you remove the plastic cover from the heater air intake and you can...

My Xantia 2.1 TD has started doing some strange things on the throttle. It holds on to the revs for several seconds when you have released the pedal, which can be disconcerting to say the least. The 1.9 engine and box is I belive the same as the 405/406 and the 2.1 the same as the 406. They do tend to have heavy clutches, especially when worn. A good clutch will get lighter the further you push the pedal down although it does'nt necessaraly mean its worn out if it doesn't. The hydropnumatic suspension does tend to ride hard over short...

just happened on this. since jag has got their 3.0tdi XF which turned out way better in fuel economy and output than the 2.7tdi they and citroen are using, problem was i think it was longitudinally setup for rear wheel drive cars.

now it looks like citroen will have a 240bhp 3.0hdi in their c5 and c6, which will put it right up there in the...

Hi Guys
can anyone help me please? i need some info about the rear load sensor valve on a 1.8 16v Xantia 2000 (W reg). This is the valve (as you will probably know) that is mounted forward of the spare wheel and connected to the anti-roll bar by a plastic link rod on two ball joints.
What i need to know is how easy should this valve be to opperate...

i belive you cant free the HC linkage/s off long term in situe, you need to remove the HC mountting bracket completely from the car and hold it in avice whilst you lube and work it till the turrets swivle very freely to the extent they flop both ways with ease

a customers L reg ZX 1.4 petrol failed the MOT on imbalance on the front brakes,

the N/S was/is about a 100 less than the O/S when both applied together,

before i took it back for the first re/test i removed all the front pads, pistons went back very easy, and the calliper slides are very free with no sideways movement, discs are very clean and...

I bet you're glad to see the back of it...I used to hate jobs like this...I like a challenge but sometimes things just make no sense.

Thanks for your replies. The boost pressure sensor was replaced today. The tip on the old one was coated in oil which may have affected its ability to send the correct information to whichever computer controls the boost. Interestingly whilst the car runs sweeter so far, it's still 'pinking' noticeably in the lower 3 gears from between...

No luck in Peugeot,so will try here.Must be the same for Xantia`s/C5`s?

Just had the ABS code read on my 406.I need a new l/h drive shaft.The Peugeot main dealer has quoted £252 all in to replace,inc d/shaft,gaiters & g/box oil.After costing it my self,it comes to £130 ish.
My question is,if i do it myself,will the ABS light have to be reset,or...

All fixed.Replaced front cv joint but light was still on.Replaced rear hub assy,new rear abs sensor as the tip was broken from the screw rattling around.Drove off & within 100 yrds the abs light went off & all is well.

hi all. hope someone can help. my clutch pedal every now and again when pressed bangs down to the floor as if the cable has snapped, but when lifting foot off pedal the pedal comes back up and works as normal. this occurs quite often and is really annoying. when pressing the clutch pedal it feels really heavy as well. i have been told this...

Hi new to this forum hope someone can help.

zx 1.9 deisel non turbo. Since adding deisel fuel cleaner it has been erratic with short surges of acceleration when accelerating from standstill and one day of turbo like acceleration.

02 Picasso HDI 2L SX with air con - STOP Temperature light has come on a couple of times (3 or 4 in two months - air con not on at the time), driver stopped, fans at full tilt, waited til fans stopped and then continued on their journey. No leaks and coolant ok, hasn't actually boiled . Have read different possibities -

Morning chaps, My off side front indicator is getting condensation inside, at first I thought it was just that the air holes were blocked, but after the dowmpour of the last couple of days, it's doing it again. I'm thinking that the sealant has gone.

The question is therefore, is there a special sealant, or can I just bodge with a bit of bathroom...

Morning Dickie, It's the C6, but there are already 2 holes in in the rear of the unit, one at the top and the other at the bottom, I'm guessing that the 'Bonding' has gone between the lense and the unit. I've already had the unit out and drained it, I've cleaned out the air holes and it's still doing it, hence the 'bonding'.....

Came in with a major head ache, no compression at all, stripped it all off, had the head machined, put it back together last night, put oil in tonight, started up, a bit slow and sounded a bit low on compression... anyway, she went eventually, and then would start everytime after...

Knowing now that my fast tick in soft mode is caused by duff electrovalves and it'll be a few weeks before the pennies allow the purchase of a new set, I'm thinking of a temporary workaround.

If I force the suspension into permanant hard mode that'll be too hard for comfort really.

But what if I swap all the corner spheres for non Hydractive...

The ride in hard mode is hard, even with these non-hydractive corners. About as hard as an Activa in soft mode :lol: But nowhere near as soft as a non-hydractive car... Do hydroactive struts/rams have the same piston diameter as non-hydroactive?

Hi fellow Xantia V6 drivers..

Im curious to your experiances with your auto boxes on V6 Xantias..

Mines fine most of the time, however, it can BANG badly and shudder the car when going from P to Reverse, however, from N ro Reverse is not so bad... I guess it could be a valve sticking..

My other query is over run, when im going down a hill, or...

thanks to the french car forum for the advice of one of the members richard my fault has now been corrected it is a common fault so check your rear wheels there should be about a 20 mil gap between the caliper and the wheel rim? i have saved £340 as Citroen wanted £200 per side and i got them cleaned and put back for £40

I've just repaired a friends C5 and the inside of the wheel was scored badly. Corrosion had set in and the calipers were well on the p**s. Bolts holding caliper on are mega tight to undo and tighten and feels like they are going to shear off when trying to undo.

Hi, Ive had my Xantia estate fitted with all new spheres and filled with Hydraflush, for the first time since I have owned it she now appears to have the right spheres on her.

it was the front accumulator bypass valve which had misteriously come loose.

tighened it up and everything is fine.

still can't get used to the vibrating brake pedal though, it keeps making me jump with my foot on the brake pedal whilst turnning off the engine.

Hi,
Well, the airbag warning light on my Xantia HDI 90bhp is flashing all the time. I have had the steering wheel bag off and things seem okay there.
So, which cables do I need to cut and solder together on the seats??? What colour are they? Orange? if so, do they have any resisters on them?

I think on a Mk 2 Xantia, the connectors under the seat cause the side airbag light to flash. The ribbon connector behind the steering wheel normally causes the main airbag to flash.

If the problem has gradually got worse, and seemed to be triggered while driving, it is probably the ribbon connector

I'd noticed a slight blow from under the trusty C5 110 HDi during the last few weeks. While I had it up on ramps to change the oil and filter I decided to investigate further and found the cat. had almost parted company from the rest of the pipe due to corrosion. Still, after 8 years and about 125,000 miles I suppose that's not too bad.

I have been trying to shift the nearside rear sphere on a MK1 Xantia Estate for most of the afternoon. The offside sphere cracked using a Xac Special tool as per the description and instructions on the sticky above.

Cracking the n/s sphere has proved a tougher nut entirely. I have sheared two pieces of M6 rod on the Xac tool, snapped two chains...

I have had the car up on axle stands and adjusted the handbrake more the once as the Haynes manual says. All is fine (after much faffing) and get it to within 5 to 7 clicks. But when I put the car back down on the ground the adjustment all goes and it is on full pull up of the handbrake lever before locking.

I have a C5 hdi 2.2 year 2002 and today decided to give it some new oil and filters.
Drained the oil from the sump and while that was going on took the top cover off the engine to see about the fuel filter. After a double take and a bit of poking around I have decided to ask for some help, how do you take the fuel hoses off the top of the filter...

So my Xantia has failed this years MOT on one thing and also had 3 advisory items:

FAIL:
Offside rear brake caliper

Advisory items:
Exhaust has part of the system slightly deteriorated
(both front) Suspension arm rubber bush deteriorated but not resulting in excessive movement
Oil leak

so now to the work side of things, it will have to wait...
