Xantia - Aerial Removal

Post by gadgetgricey »

Can it be removed for a car wash etc???

Looks as though there is a join, but does not seem to want to rotate at all.

Is there a knack or will brute force win the day.

Thanks again.

I guess its probably seized on its stub, Peugeot's do this too.

If you force it off (molegrips with a rag around them) there's a slight to reasonable chance of it snapping, resulting in a new aerial and base needed (not expensive, usually)

The problem is you cannot get at the threaded part to give it some pluggas or suchlike.

Note: I'm basing this on 306 / 406 stuff, but I expect the Xantia to be very very similar if not the same part.

I used to push it as flat as I could to the roof - didn't snap off and is still in place but I tend to wash the car myself now. A bit of WD40 might help things along. :)

Thanks both.

Got a pair of mole grips on the base and the aerial itself, and with a little bit of persuading it came free.

Trying to get a V6 back on the road, and this was one of the minor bits it was missing.

All fitted now though.

Thanks again

Random tip: Smear a hint of copper grease onto the aerial threads before refitting, just a little bit. As its conductive it won't interfere with signal reception but should stop it seizing on. :)

Lucky though, they can snap. From memory the aerial 'base' part is cheaper than the 'mast'
