Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

I have a Xantia with something of an ongoing problem. It's ridden hard a few times since I got it, a sphere change always fixed that though. Diagnosed by feeling which corner was hard . If you do change spheres, this guide may be useful, especially for the rears as they can be very tight and need a procedure to be followed.

Sounds like your tool is well up to the job :D Sometimes they can be so tight a big hammer and cold chisel is the only way :twisted:

Hi, wondered if any body could help regarding the viabration I get at about 35 to 40 mph in my C5. It comes at about that speed, I can excellarate through it and its as smooth as silk at all other times.I wondered if anyone might of had a similar fault?

2002 makes it an early one. There were a lot of problems of the kind you describe on early C5's resulting in much work being done generaly on warranty on the rear suspension. It might be worth going into your local Citroen dealer Tates? and ask them if your car has had all the suspension mods done, they will have records of any work done on your...

Got a problem with the lighting on my C5. When the lighting switch is turned to the first position:
Numberplate light on, dashboard is lit and the 'lights on' sounder is working.
But both sidelights are off.
Both rear light are off.

A lighting board plugged into 12N socket gives lit rear lamps.
Headlights work both manually and on auto. Also...

I would be getting your cambelt done ASAP, given that there is an 03 plate HDi C5 for breaking on ebay due to its cambelt snapping at 72K miles! Its not really worth risking.

Good luck with your C5, sounds a good car for the money.

Hi all,
Although not new to the forum, this is my first post.

A friend of mine has an 02 Plate Picasso 2.0 Hdi 90 with 87k on the clock.
It starts from cold without any problem and will run ok but as soon as he stops it it will not start for at least 15 mins, then its ok again.

He had a diagnostic done which indicated a problem with the crank...

Have to open this one up again as the problem has re-occurred.

My mate had the Cam sensor fitted and all seemed well but over the weekend he took the car for a run that got it nicely warmed up and when he stopped he had to wait for an hour before it would start again.

Any ideas as to what the problem is ?

My Xantia 2.0 petrol turbo - back wheel level has dropped by several inches. I can raise etc no problem but during driving it drops too low and the back springs around making driving difficult and uncomfortable. How can I set the default setting up a few inches

I'm trying to free off my rear calipers & pads which have seized. I got the nut off the inner end of the pad retaining bolt and then managed to shear the head off flush with the caliper at the other end.

Should it just slide out if I can hit it hard enough with a punch, or is it threaded into the caliper halves?

Any advice or suggestions?...

When I did the rusty calipers on my first Xantia the pad bolt was well stuck. With the caliper removed, I had to saw the bolt off flush with the caliper, heat it up, then drift it out. New bolt is not dear from the dealers, but it's not really doing any work, so you can just fit them back on with a threaded bar or something to hold the pads in...

hi i have a c5 2.0 hdi 110 auto the car is great apart from how much fuel it uses i drive steady but the is only doing 22 mpg any ideas please let ne know

Hello guys,

I noticed the back of my xantia was riding a little low when I left work so I put the suspension to high and back back down again, unfortunaty the front came down but the back didnt. The back will however go right to very low but wont come back up unless I put it on highrise.

Can anyone make any recommendation?

Is anyone familiar with gearbox type for a 2003 jumper its a lhd 2.0hdi would it be the same as in a rhd and is it fitted to any of the other Citroen car/van range, I am looking for a s/h unit or a rebuild kit but need to identify it.

i@m not really sure which gearbox you have but lhd and rhd should'nt make any difference. Citroen are not too bad for gearboxes, they do try to use the same ones in several vehicles.

Despite having had two Xantias over a period of four years (and being very happy with both) I'm still not sure as to whether I've experienced as-new ride qualities.

How do you judge, short of driving a brand new one?

While I have changed spheres and maintained the links by performing regular 'exercises' I've never changed fluid or cleaned...

my R reg 1.9TD has intermitant ride quality, sometime harsh and sometimes smooth, and yes a load in the back dose give the MAGIC CARPT ride,

I cannot agree with your advice on strut heads.
With some years of experience with a good number of XM's I consider that there is a very real problem that needs regular condition checks. Not something to play down as Citroen have tried to do since the problem first emerged. The early Xantia head seems to suffer even more than the XM one...

My hobbled C5 has been sitting for afew month. I have only went in to it once or twice, however the front doors now wont open either inside or out. Thye did a wekk and a half agon. I assume it's just because I haven't used them much and maybe it's electrical?

Would a good thump do it? or is the two of them being stuck a sign of something else?

As you say, the key should unlock the car even with a dead battery. I wouldn't expect both locks to be rusted beyond use.

Otherwise there could be a problem :(

Oh well...main dealers strike again :roll:

I called Citroen today to order a touch up brush and can of paint for my Xantia code KPKCR and they have deleted it from range :evil:

Surely it doesnt cost much to have a stash of older stuff sat somewhere that they can order from...

I had no trouble getting paint from VW for my old Passat a while...

How can the paint age pigmentally, in a country that suffers so little sunlight as to not crack BX dashes? 2K is a pretty stable medium.

I suspect that the variations are what's known in the trade as variants - subtle (or not!) changes to the colour while there was no official change to the name or code.

Got back to Juliet at the trainstation last night and her remote wasn't working.
I've placed the battery just in case the button was being pressed in my pocket (I doubt this though as the rubber is worn practically flat) and still no joy.
Any ideas?

I've just purchased a 1999 Citroen Xantia iSX 1998, 1998cc. Big mileage but everything works as it should with one possible exception - the clutch is very stiff, needs a lot of pressure to operate. No problems with gears these work excellently and no slippage on clutch.

Pretty sure the 2.0i uses the same pull clutch as the 1.9TD - which is well known for going heavy later in its life. A new clutch should certainly lighten it up - they are pretty light when new!

I have a Xantia HDI and the problem is when we plug into the diagnostic socket we get no response. We have worked out that there are two live pins and two earth pins. These are all OK. We have also sprayed with switch cleaner. Any ideas or can we, somehow run straight off the ECU?

The brillo seal is at the back of the engine, fitted at the joint where the exhaust manifold connects into the exhaust pipe. As well as providing a gas tight joint, I think it gives a little flexibility, as the engine moves around a bit. Hiii

I am planning to buy a Xantia(99-95)soon,i dont the car,how is it ?what are the main pronlems of the car,what to look for before buying it ?what is the normal temp of the car when working ?(when the fans should go on ?).

I have a BX 89(1.6 116 HP ).

just been looking round my car as got hold of a vtr spoiler and need to paint it up to match

checked under bonnet, too much plastic lol, checked all 4 door shuts and cant find any colour code

is there anywhere else citroen tend to hide them ?

You must have looked at it! Open the driver's door. There are two labels. The top one has the tyre pressures. The bottom one has the paint code on the bottom line.

Evening all.. :lol:

Just need to pick your knowledgable brains on an early XM.

Is there anything in particular that the earlyer one's suffered with ? as i believe 1992 was the 1 st year of production ! ( i could be wrong ) :oops:

Iv'e been offered what looks to be a nice one, and very low mileage, but just wondered if they had many teething...

Well it would appear the C%'s clutch is on its way out, 4th 5th and 6th if extended hovers around max torque until car catches up with engine speed then pulls cleanly to rev limiter.
I can sense this could be expensive, probably need DMF at same time, anyone an idea on price C5 mk2 138 6 speed.

Hi,
My Xantia engine has just started suddenly cutting out. Stops like turning off a light switch. Then is a pig to get restarted. Would that be the fuel cut off switch on the pump, and why would it just start acting up.???

The exhaust has started blowing just before the catalytic converter :cry:

My MOT is due at the end of this week and I'm hoping they can get away with welding the exhaust up.
If not can you buy this section of the exhaust without the Cat?
Failing that wheres the cheapest place to get one

Had a look online at Cat's Direct and its the same system as the 1.9TD Mk2 xantia, what you need is a 1995 Xantia front pipe, this will replace the cat and the middle box and go straight to the back box.

as diesels dont need a cat it'll be fine.

take a look at cat's direct do some comparing between mocdels and you'll find they are the same...

I had a Berlingo van that had a DW8 which had died, we replaced it with an XUD9 from a 306. It is all running and driving nicely, just a general question regarding acceleration. It is just me or are these extremely slow compared to most cars?

hi, 1st post so go easy on me ! lol
i have a 53 plate xsara 1.6 8valve .
it drives fine but when stopped and on idle only it hunts changing between 750 and 1250 ish revs or occasionally it goes to a stable 2000 ish revs.
i dont know if it is any help but when the car moves if i put my foot on the clutch at say 30 mph letting the engine idle it...

I've ordered a set of Kleber Dynaxers for my 2000 Hdi90. At this moment the car is on the original Michelins and they still have, I reckon, 10000 miles in the tread, but the sidewalls are very badly crazed and there are a one or two nicks as well. I am soon to be the proud owner of a Citroen AX 10.

It's several different colours, I won't change it as I'm going for the sleeper look (Q-Car for those of you born before 1985).

Can anyone help me ?

My Wife's 03 reg C3 (1.4 8V) (63k on clock ) is making a strange ticking sound when idling and reving it (ticking gets faster as you rev faster). Seems to get worse when engine is warmer. Thought it might be the hydralic tappets. So filled the engine oil with Hydraulic Tappet lifting oil. Hoever, this has made no difference....

hi all - newby here hoping for some advice. Synergy 2.1 desiel 16v hdi on a 51 plate. Car runs very well smothest car i ever had actuaally, however, when i start up from cold it is excessively smokey, i have done the injector cleaner in the fuel tank but when cold lots of smoke. It went thro mot which suprised me but maybe cos the engine was hot....

hi igor i did change the filter the first time the damn light came on thinking that there was a problem checked everything dryed the housing made sure there was no residual water put it all back together and hey presto the goddamn light came on hence unplugged it i now change the filter at 6000mls and i have no hassle :D :
