Xantia heat

Post by imperial21 »

Hi
Now we have had a couple of cold mornings i think my car is slow to warm the interior of the car, My car has a new heater matrix so i know thats good once the car has warmed up properly the car is nice and warm inside,
What i want to know is how long people drive there HDI powered cars before they have decent warm air inside as i wander if the heater plugs in the water pipes work ok.
Thanks

My HDi 110 takes about 5 miles to warm through thorougly.... In the meantime I have the heated seat on to help me warm up being exclusive.

My Temp guage sits at 80 DEG on the guage what ever the weather!! HOT or Cold...

Once the guage is up its nice and hot. You may well have a sticky heat control motor that drives the flap...

I have the seat heaters too ! but clearing the screen can be bad, i think the flaps are ok as when the car is upto temperature the inside is nice and warm, 5 mins just about gives me luke warm heat inside the car.

That's one of the downsides of an Hdi, they are thermally very efficient, more of the fuel is turned into energy and less into heat which is why the fuel consumption is so good. My 406 is fitted with a diesel fired auxilluary heater which is brilliant, I start getting heat form the windscreen ducts in about 100 yards, the temperature gauge doesn't move off the stop for about two miles and can take up to ten to to reach full temperature. Without his additional heater its gives about as much heat as a CX.

It's worth checking your auxiliary heater is working. Do you have the electric glowplug one or the Eberspacher diesel-fired one? You should have one or the other and they do make a difference...

The glowplug one can be checked by making sure you see volts on a cold morning at the four glowplugs. I believe they don't fire up until the engine has been running for a couple of minutes. If you do see volts, then disconnect each of the plugs and check them for continuity...

If you have an Eberspacher than again the most likely fault is a duff glowplug. They're a tad more difficult to check though.

With an HDi if you see the oil temperature rising quicker than the water temperature then the additional heater be it Ebersbacher or glowplug isn't operating.
