Xantia running temp.

Post by aerodynamica »

When I first got the Xantia 12 weeks ago, the temp gauge hovered around the 80deg mark. But for the last few weeks it sits squarely at 60deg and rarely rises near 80 unless in traffic. fans work and the thermostat appears to be operating ok.

How does this behavior strike you? (obviously the outside temp has gone right down lately but this began weeks ago)

Needs a new stat - they go baggy with age and leak too much water into the rad.

Great thanks Richard for the speedy response! I did the 'feel test' on the stat rad hose and felt it heat up after a good 7-10 mins of idle - still outside the right amounts? I wonder if the stat housing will be the same swine of a thing as the CX's was with bolts snapping and suchlike..

In my experience, senders can get "blunted" with scale, too. The only temperature readings I trust are shot with a pyrometer or read off a thermocouple on my multimeter. It's nice when a gauge is accurate, but I wouldn't rely on them.

I think mine runs cool from the guage too and I fitted a new stat and water pump as well. I have noticed that when after I have been in the car a few minutes the guages ALL drop a bit, eg fuel/temp etc - I think its something to do with the voltage! ie full tank drops to just under then back up to full when I next start up!! I reckon the temp guage is the same.

My 1.9D does run at about 80 on the gauge in colder weather but takes a long time to get there. I have replaced the thermostat in the past year which seemed to make little difference. Does it never get up to 80?
