c5 reverse switch fault or not?

Post by adel »

hi,
I have a 2002 C5, recently when I step into reverse, I can not hear the usual beep. I checked and found that the reverse lights do not light up, and the parking sensors were not working.
A few days later the beep went back to work, and with it the lights and sensors. I mean, it comes and goes.
What problem do you think? Is it a touch loose in the handle?

I had exactly the same symptoms and a new reversing light switch cured it.

It is on the top of the gearbox easily visible and accessible with the airbox removed.

Easy to test.

Pull the wiring plug off the top, then using a paper clip, make a U shape and connect the 2 prongs inside the wiring connector together. Put the ignition on and look at the revering lights, if they are on the wiring is all fine so the fault must be the switch.

Regards.
Martin.

It is in the centre of the photo, inside the pipe to the clutch slave cylinder and with a black 'accordion' lead with a white stripe on the side attached to it.

Yes, the beep returned on mine with a new switch fitted.

I also had the exact same problems on my 04 C4, it cured itself!

Have you tried Martin's suggestion, simplest method of determining if the fault is with the switch or elsewhere.

Hi, remove switch, remove sealing washer and throw away, put switch back using sealing tape or past.

Worked for me! Dave.
