Heated mirrors not working

Post by Diabolical »

Hi. Just noticed first proper frost that my Xantia heated mirror heating elements no longer work both sides but adjustment works OK.

Any ideas?

Remove the mirror glass,(prise apart the two little metal tails behind the glass at the top) and test that you are getting a current to the mirror with a multimeter or test lamp. If so then the elements have failed and you need a new glass. If not then the fault is downstream.

Drivers side mirror is NEW 6months ago so I guess it's not the elements.

Not trying to make you feel stupid, but you know they only come on with the heated rear window switch? And if so, does the heated rear window work?

Yes I know, heated rear window works OK.

I fitted the mirror so I'm coming to the conclusion it's my fault

Shall remove door card at some point and see what's up, could have missed plugging in plug for heated element.

Looking your car up by VIN on "Service Citroën" is another way. I'd expect a facelift Exclusive to have them for sure.

If you look carefully at a mirror, squinting at it helps, and when just misty you can sometimes just make out the heating elements if you're lucky.

I'd say that those cars with body-coloured mirror back covers are the heated ones. It's not truly model specific as I've seem SXs with them.

They are wired in parallel with the heated rear window so if that works then there is no reason why the mirrors won't - wiring through the doors aside...

Heated mirrors were standard on SX models and above so VSX, Activa and Exclusives as well.
