Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

customers had recovery out to her C3 last week and he fitted a new coil pack, and advised her to get the spark plugs replaced, which i did today, whilst she was here she pointed out the engine management light is on all the time but the car seems to be behaving its self,

In Australia on my C3 the engine warning light is the injectors i thought.
The engine management warning light is a general fault warning light for the whole engine management system & can indicate a fault with loads of different components. This applies in every country.

Most of the vital jobs are done now on my Xantia. New spheres fitted, new tyres, (Uniroyal Rain Expert which I highly recommend), cambelt and water pump all done. Just a few more jobs to do to make perfect and any advice would be great.

1. Can't stop the gear linkage from being stiff and squeeky. Tried spraying it with WD40 which works for a bit...

An open ended spanner is Very Good for this... if you choose the right size, you can get the spanner under it and if its not too big it can support the rubber that Jim is pointing out....

The only awkward one is the one with no under support..

Hi all, bought an A4 TDI as it was going extremley cheap....but now i dont know wether to sell the A4 or the Xantia.

Silver Xantia 2.0 HDi Forte X reg with 90k recent cambelt and tesioner along with head gasket. due to timing belt snap but no internal damage.
four brand new tires, new exhaust, new power steering pipe.
new wheel bearings front...

Hi All.

Hope you can offer some words of wisdom...here's the story.

Had the MOT done on friday, cost £280 - 3 new tyres, 1 bulb, new LHM fuild/filters.

Following day the girlfriend is driving it, a loud slapping noise is coming from engine. Turns out it was the Auxillary belt - half shredded, part of it was flapping against every thing. I think...

Hi All

Just had to pay a trip to the local auto electric chap as I have a passenger airbag light on. He read the codes and two came up with errors: 512 and 615. :(

Apparantly 615 just tells him that the light is on but 512 is the main one. He mentioned squib and steering wheel and ribbons. Anyone with similar experience? I was hoping for wire...

I dopily forgot to add the caution about fiddling with airbag electrics. Without knowing a better method, I would advise you disconnect the battery earth terminal and wait 10 minutes for any residual current to discharge before playing with the connectors.

Also be aware this means the stock radio will need it's code re-entering once power is...

LDS and LHM are essentially the same spec the difference being that LDS is a semi synthetic base and LHM is a mineral base.

Hi all,
Another daft question from a Xsara owner.
At MOT last year the tester noticed that the front suspension arm bushes were starting to perish.
I've got some brand new arms complete with bushes etc off Flea bay.
It looks a straight forward unbolt & replace job.
Any pit falls to watch out for please ? Its a 1999 Xsara1.9D no ABS etc

Providing you have all right tools, axles stands, etc it is a straight forward nut and bolt job. When you have the lower ball joint disconnected, be careful not to pull the hub assembly and driveshaft out too far, especially the nearside one as you may pull it out of the differential.

Once it is all back together, do not forget to get the wheel...

ok, the noise coming from the front of my car isn't a broken spring,it is the top strut mount. The garage say they can't get hold of one today as they are closing at dinner time and its a main dealer part. Apparently not a really expensive fix,but I asked them if it's ok to drive and they said yes... are they right to tell me this? the noise...

If it is either the strut top rubber mounting or the upper strut bearing that is making the noise, I would suggest not using the car until it is repaired. If either fail completely, the suspension on that side will collapse. That could affect the handling and roadholding of the vehicle.

You would not like it to happen at speed.

As per previous thread my Xantia had blown out a spark plug leaving me stranded 300 miles from home with limited tools and in the middle of lots of bank holidays when garasges like to shut.

I spoke to local garages yesterday and non of them would look at helicoiling the head with out taking it off which means i'd be looking at £350 - £400 by the...

Once did the AA Relay thingy from Paignton in /devon to Birmingham. It took forever because the AA use 'way points' i.e. they drive to a AA depot enroute offload your vehicle then wait for the next relay vehicle 'going your way' then onto the next AA depot etc. Paingnton to Birmingham took 14 hours. The RAC in contast use one vehicle all the way...

The only key i have broke inside the ingition barrell of my berlingo van. Managed to get an ignition barrell and key from scrap yards which is now fitted successfully.

However, the immobiliser keeps kicking in and will not allow engine to fully start.

Yes, it wouldn't be the cam belt but the auxillary belt. You really need to explore why it came off in the first place as they can get under the cambelt and really cause damage.

To refit it, I'm not sure on your engine? but look for a small pulley with an allen key hole and square drive hole. It's concentric so releasing with allen key should...

it might take 1 Liter each month is this normal for a 16 years old Xantia? i remember i read somewhere that there was a fault in early Xantias that they consume oil but it has been Citroen fixed it under warranty, is it possible that mine still has this issue?

SWMBO informs me that my (her) VSX is doing the random revs shuffle at idle :) :)

I have had experience of this on a Veccy and it was the ICV.This could be taken apart and cleaned but i have no idea where to look for said component on the VSX :oops: :oops:

All of a sudden my xsara will not start. When i put the key in the ignition the dash lights up as normal but the key symbol stays on, I get a warning on the display saying 'engine immobiliser fault' and a binging noise. Also the central locking does not work. I changed the battery in the key hoping this was the issue but sadly not. Any ideas...

Assuming this is one of the later multiplexed cars, I'd check the main battery voltage - they can start doing all sorts of odd things if the voltage is low. Also if you've had the battery off and not been careful the computer can forget the keys....

Hi, today checked out auxilliary drive belt fitted a new one, no longer slipping but above pump souds like a multi hammer forge. has anyone had any experience with overhaulig, or buying and fitting a recon; if so were did you get repair kit, or recon pump.

They make some pretty horibble noises if they are sucking air. I'd check that there isn't a hole in the suction hose first. A check that the filters are not totally clogged would be worthwhile too.

Hi Guys,

I am new in the Citroen world and I need your help, yesterday I was driving my Xsara N7 car (50Km/h) and suddenly a knock happened and the S ,snow lights start to blink.

I checked the stored faults and found the following message differential pressure regulator ...etc

someone told me that I need to change - 257416 Electro valves....

Went over a speedbump yesterday and the rear of my xantia felt very firm :?

Pulled up a few of hundred yards away and the rear was on the bumpstops, i initially thought the rear dogbone had come off even though the height corrector is working perfectly...jacked it up and found the metal clamp on the arb has failed?!

The thing that bugs me is...

From studying the good picture above I'd say the clamp had a crack in the
actuation arm that allowed the corrosion in which has weakened it to the
point it's given up acting onto the HC - there isn't much clean or shiny
looking metal to see anyhow.

Not sure what the weather is like over there at the moment but my partner had issues with her ZX and we thought it was primer bulb.

Turned out that it started just fine once the weather had warmed up a bit! Not sure what temperature UK diesel goes down to?

I was just wondering ;)

Does the Lexia (or indeed the Planet software) function with a C1 / 107 / Aygo ? , I would assume so but...

My understanding is these are not multiplexed at all.

I heard elsewhere talk of a ScanGauge, but this appears to be OBD2 and a few other features ?

I guess what I'm asking is, will a Lexia work with a C1 or its...

Hi there no pump noise, cant get under car to have a look for rod. Seems to have gone down even more. Local garage got no joy on Diagnostics either!

If the pump isn't running check the MAxi Fuses.

Did citroen xantias SXs have alloy wheels ? The style i am interested in i have only seen as a wheel trim but i would buy if i could get themas a wheel.

I'm not a great fan of the exclusive alloys either and think the earlier VSX alloys were much better.

Hi All..

Subject: HDi 110bhp, Xantia

Ive got a Xantia 110bhp HDi here, I have found that if I undo the EGR valve the engine will run etc.. however, ifI tighten it up the engine wont run, and starts and stalls immidieatly..

I bought the car with a suspect turbo problem, so my Q is, is this an EGR problem, or is there a Turbo blockage causing the...

Ah, good point, I didn't get as far as dropping the exhaust off, I dropped it off the head with manifold firstly, then found it ran, so bolted the manifold and turbo back up, and it stopped, so I undid the EGR and it ran again....

Ill try the exhaust next, Its NOT a intercooler pipe they are all in good shape.

I doubt that the stealer did the relay mod two years ago.
Permanent relay circuits were wired in at the factory from 1998 and improvised relay mods dangled in for over a year before that.

just checked and dealer did the relay mod 26 months ago

My Xantia SX Hdi has 4 glow plugs in a plastic housing that's in the heater hose at the bulkhead.Just noticed them today :oops: What is their function?

Likely, as the HDi is soooo slow at warming up...

Look at the heater hoses, at the back of the engine bay! You wont miss it if its fitted!

With the recent cold weather, I have seen a friends Xantia hatchback have a problem with the tailgate window seal at the bottom, where it appears the seal has a up, and down appearance to the bottom edge apparently it has done this previously.

So is this a common problem with the seal?

Pridz, check the plastic gland nut on the rear wiper spindle is tight. If it's loose, water will run in and accumulate in the drainage channel at the bottom of the window and this drains out and may run down the cords when the tailgate is opened.

hopefully this should help with alternative fitments:

Offset : 15 to 20

Hi Ideas please.

I had a problem with the internal heater fan and decided to power it from the Cigerette lighter socket. Whilst playing around checking polarity etc the engine just died. I am fairly sure that I did not short anything out and it all may be a coincidence. I have checked all the fuses which is what should have blown if there was a...

You have confirmed what I have had in my mind all along, I need to get to the ignition and check the voltage going in, it is possible there is a earth or negative fault. Witch is typical Citroen.
When I can get the 6inchs of ice and snow off the car I will have a go.

I can see myself getting into trouble here now and into the future. :(

My local brake and hoses specialist and now GSF have both stopped selling
the 3.5mm hydraulic pipe nuts and seals. Trawling around the service Citroen
parts site I cannot find individual pipe ends listed so where do I get some?
I need at least a dozen or so to...

I bought some 3.5mm cupro nickel pipe from them a while ago whilst they were still a UK based operation, but I think that they have now relocated to France.
They sell the tube nuts and LHM pipe seals.

hI I have just bought a 2000 W Xsara Hatch and the offside rear bumper has a hole in it!

its got body coloured (yellow) bumpers.

Is it possible to buy the inserts as the main bumper is fine.

Hi All.
I am off to see Pleiades tomorrow to get my hydraulic pump sorted,its
leaking. As its a mk1 V6 they dont have a exchange unit so they are going
to remove it and repair it.

hi,
thanks to the guys who advised me on changing the dash bulbs on my picasso..it's an o2 plate, did everything as instructed, easy job once i figured out how to unplug the blue plug in the back left side and the black one in the right back side.Anyway,the bulbs were a bit dim on the left(speedo,coolant temp etc) right hand side was fine,...

I would agree. I used to do a lot of 406 heater panel bulbs (the climate / digital one) , it had a lot of bulbs in it.

If you just changed two or three, you could bet when it was put back together either another one would be out or that would happen soon after.

Given the 'cost' was taking it out in the first place (switches out etc) it was far...

Xantia 1.9TD 1998

Is it exclusively a worn clutch when the clutch pedal is too high, and doesn't bite until it's almost at the very top of its travel?

Slipping when revved fairly hard, too.

Just wondered in case it could be adjustment problem, etc., or if definitely needs new clutch.

Citroen dealership have offered a few quid for the car against a brand new Picasso which my parents have wanted for a while. I reckon best all round, too many car troubles lately. I have a C3 which the other day got me to work no problems at all.
When I tried to leave to go home, it refused to start first time. Took probably 6/7 tries before it finally got going, but ran like a farm tractor and was smokey too. It was definetly down on power and was holding back. I could still get...

The high-pitched noise is something I noticed on my C3 HDi. Don't know why it does it, or if it did it before I had the same fault you've got, but it responds the same when removing the vacuum pipe from the variable-vane turbo connection.

I'd check the turbo is spinning freely by removing intake pipe and spinning with your finger (ours seized)...
