Buying and fitting a condenser - is it as easy as this?

Post by Napoleon »

Here's what a brief search on the Bay turned up:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Citroen-C5-C6 ... 006wt_1399

From the description, it appears that this will fit my 2009 2.2 C5 estate.

But is it that straightforward? Might I run into problems having this fitted? Should I get some part numbers instead and use that info for condenser selection?

That appears to be for a MK2 - it is listed against the MK3 as well, but only for one engine type (and not yours I think...). There are 8 different ones listed for MK3 - no idea how much different, but you will need to go looking for the right one I suspect!

if you post the last 8 digits of your chassis/VIN No. i will get you the correct part No. for your specific car,

you do know you will have to have the system de/gassed before removal then re/gassed after fitting

Hi Malcolm, and thank you.

Vin: (last digits) 54088285

It's a long story, but the garage that sold me the car have agreed to go halves on the cost of supply and fit a condensor (the old system is devoid of ANY gas), but the garage said to be in charge of sourcing and fitting etc keep telling me that the part 'is on the van'.

This saga goes on, but I am on the verge of giving up, which is what I think they want me to do, and get it done elsewhere. And I might just have to, as I am getting more peed off by the day.

C5 Mk3 came out in 2008, so 2004 on refers to the Mk2 version.... probably not updated their description since before the Mk3 came out.

For your car service.citroen says:

Part Number Description Quantity Price excl. VAT Price incl. VAT Total incl. VAT
00006455GZ CONDENSER 262.26 GBP 314.71 GBP

Ouch!

There's only 1 picture for condensers for MK3 cars, so differences might be small, but then again....! This part is only listed for:

01 - DIESEL TURBO DW12BTED4 FAP SINCE RPO 11389
01 - DT17TED4 TURBO DIESEL SINCE RPO 11389

Which is yours and one engine variant of the V6 TD.

Thanks.

I'm not sure I can decipher those last two lines, Richard. How do I do that?

Fit new O-rings, with a smear of Vaseline or light oil to stop them bunching and tearing.

It breaks down as engine identifier:

DIESEL TURBO DW12BTED4 is the 2.2 173

DT17TED4 TURBO DIESEL is a V6 diesel unit (not sure which one!)

FAP just means it's got a particulate filter (sometimes they don't add it if all engine variants have the FAP - probably the case for the V6).

RP is the date of manufacture (you can find this onthe sticker on the A pillar). 11389 is 14 jan 2008 so likely covers all Mk3 C5s.

So you want a condenser for a 2.2 173 or V6 TD for 2008 on.

It's the 2.2 173, Richard.

Now, an update. I've heard from the garage that was said to be doing this job, and the car's meant to go in next Wednesday. Price? £270 plus VAT.

Does this mean it's probably a pattern part?

I don't mind admitting that I'm lost on this.

X7? What does that refer to?

'Family'?

£270 sounds like a Valeo or equivalent - definitely not Chinoiserie.

Sometimes the OEM suppliers offer a "kit" with condenser and receiver drier supplied together - you'll need both, so shop around.

Condenser for this car has the dryer built in Addo - Citroen seem to have gone that way with quite a lot recently.

X7 refers to the Project number Citroen had on the car before it was launched.
C5 III = C5 X7
