P bush puzzle

Post by Deanxm »

I hope you fine gentlemen can assist me with this, basicaly the Activa eats cheap P bushes for breakfast lunch and tea, this as you can imagine gets pretty annoying replacing the P bush 3 times a day. I phoned Citroen a while back and mentioned it while i was ordering something else and they said no problems but when i went to order some genuine articles today i was told they are £131.82 each + vat and they only now sell the O/S bush, the N,S is NFP or whatever it is.

They have however said they can do motorquip (ie crap ones) for £67.86 + vat each but thats the whole arm you cant just buy the bush.

So to the questions, firstly is this a lot of waffle and can i get the real deal as a bush on its own and if not are there any aftermarket ones that are not made out of cheese?

Did you mean NLA (no longer available?)

There was a similar thing with 206 wishbone bushes, they were not available genuine until they started to go under warranty, then as if my magic ( no shopkeeper appeared this time, for those who recall Mr Benn ;) ) they appeared as a separate part...

Similar with 306 wishbone bushes, Peugeot did not list them but Citroen did for the ZX, someone said there were minor variations but we fitted hundreds of them (not warranty jobs) without a single problem ever.

In your specific case: A patten one in an arm might not be too bad actually especially if its Motaquip (find another MQ supplier if possible may be cheaper than dealer) stuff is generally pretty good. I would probably avoid a pattern "bush" on its own though rather have a complete unit if its non gen if possible.

Motaquip are part of PSA,,,,,, see here

Motaquip used to be the parts supplier name for Chrysler parts prior to Chrysler being bought by PSA much like Unipart for BL.

Difficult one to answer for sure Dean but I'd be inclined to trust Motaquip more than any other supplier, I fitted a pair of Motaquip front arms to my Activa and AFAIK they are still going well, ask Jim about their current state :lol:

Watching this thread with interest. The lower arm bushes on my V6 are pretty shot especially on one side, it pulls to the right on hard acceleration and generally feels a bit wandery in the steering despite two new track rod ends, toe out being correct and having two new michelins on the front. There is also some shudder when taking off from a standing start, particularly if I'm turning.

I had seen complete arms with bushes for around that price on some of the parts websites I've looked at but wasn't sure about the wisdom of buying a whole arm especially if it's pattern parts.

The ones I've come across are Q-Drive from carparts4less: (£62.40)

http://www.carparts4less.co.uk/cp4l/c/C ... 07b&000320" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Lemforder arms from aepdirect: (£80.96)

http://www.aepdirect.com/suspension-arm ... ory_id=751" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Unknown brand arms from GSF: (£67.20)

http://www.gsfcarparts.com/422pc0280" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

GSF also have individual bushes of unknown brand:

http://www.gsfcarparts.com/parts/steeri ... l-arm-bush" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

AEP claims that the Lemforder arms are OEM, anyone know if this is true ? They're certainly priced a bit higher than the others. If so are they likely to have good quality bushes ?

Wasn't able to find anywhere to get motoquip arms with a quick search.

I was originally thinking about getting just the bushes and fitting them (PITA job that it is) but if most of the available bushes are cheap pattern parts that are going to wear out quickly (especially on the V6) then maybe an arm with good quality bushes isn't such a bad idea...(and a heck of a lot easier job to do than individual bushes for someone with limited working facilities and tools)

The 'P' bushes are not too bad but the front ones would be a pita again depends what tools you have, do we have any other V6 / tct owners who have bushes that they have replaced and have lasted? looks at the moment like good bushes have to come on new arms and not seperatly?

So where do you get "genuine" bushes?
service.citroen only lists them as part of the arm assembly, over £300 for both sides.

[edit] OK, cross referencing via the oracle of ebay, the citroen part numbers are 352382 - 352381 - 96083570
about £100 for a set.

Are the GSF ones on ebay any good at half the price?

Found this i must have missed in your link, looks like you can get both sides of the real deal with bushes only, i might give these to my parts man and see what they turn up.

Im almost certain they are all the same, are they fairly solid like o/e ones or do they have rather large cutouts in the rubber bushings? if they are almost solid rubber and you cant move the inner sleeve with your fingers like you can on the cheap ones PM me a price please!
