Intermittent Xantia clock ?

Post by Mandrake »

Hi All,

Never a dull day in Xantia ownership

A problem which has gradually got worse on the V6 but I havent got around to posting about is the clock randomly resetting itself to midnight January 1st.

At first it might happen once a week or so, now it's reached the point where it resets at least a couple of times a day, so I don't even bother to re set it now...

It can happen when the car is parked at night, or while you're driving, it seems totally random.

A week ago it's behaviour changed so that the display dimmed right down when the key was on but was normal when the key was off (??) and then it came right again a few hours later.

Tonight when leaving work I discovered the clock was completely dead, but came back to life when I started the engine, and has been ok since arriving home, including still working with the key off. (although I'm sure it will still reset itself randomly)

Am I looking at faulty ignition switch contacts ? Faulty wiring somewhere in the car ? Or just a faulty clock ? If it was just the clock resetting its time I would just assume the clock was faulty but the recent weird behaviour with the position of the ignition key suggests it could be the ignition switch...

Anyone dealt with this problem before ?

Is it a standalone digi clock in the dash ?

Remove it and examine its plug and terminals, its likely to be something as simple as an intermittent permanent feed.
