Additive level minimum warning C5 mk1

Post by waynedance »

Put some Forte fuel treatment in about 1000 miles ago and it did wonders so put some more into day.

Got in the car and the warning came on after a minute, car done 86k and fluid last topped up at 50k. Do you think the fluid is low or the Forte treatment playing tricks?

If it is low where is the best place to buy and how easy is it to fill up and I guess I need a lexia to reset counter.

Wayne, Google "Eolys fluid" for a supplier, you can buy it relatively cheaply. Might be worth getting a garage to do the refill, the fluid is highly poisonous and the computer will need to be told the fluid has been refilled via Lexia. Make sure you get the correct grade according to model year, there's more than one type of Eolys fluid.

Dealer wants £110.76 for 3lt, Euro car parts sell something called Pats Fluid for £85+vat for 5lt.

I see there are 2 sorts of Eolys, 176 & DPX42, do you know which I need?
Can this PAT's stuff be used?

Hi, I'm interested in the difference that Forte made, presumably it gave better response mpg?
PS take a look at posts re ditching the FAP!

Hi, yes this Forte stuff did make a big difference. Few other people have used it and had great results one being a Ford Transit Taxi which was hesitating and the EML was on. After 50 miles light gone out and running fine. Another was a 2008 Audi which failed MOT on excessive smoke, ran for a week and chap said runs loads better and passed smoke retest. I was a little yeah yeah whatever with the sales rep until he gave me a free bottle and it worked.

Not sure on the idea or removing the FAP as I like to keep he car mechanics standard as they were intended. Would be worried about getting running problems.

I'm afraid you are around 20 times more likely to suffer running problems with the FAP in place "as Citroen intended" than if you have it removed and mapped out of the ECU. :)

With it physically removed, you'll still pass an emissions MOT, will likely see both performance and economy improve, and will get no errors like Diesel Additive Low, Anti-Pollution Fault, Anti-Pollution System blocked, etc, etc..... you will say goodbye to a lot of problems. I've seen it first hand on a friend's C5. You also will not have to buy Eolys fluid any more. I would get mine done yesterday, but there is the small matter of not having £300 spare, having recently been made redundant.

Cheers.
David.

Thanks for your input, not to bothered about MOT's as I work at a garage.

Managed to reset the additive counter with the works Launch diagnostic, just got to fill up the tank tomorrow. Ordered the Patsfluid 4.5lt with transfer kit. Just hope it comes with instructions as can not find a really good guide.

Its not difficult to do, you have to remove the tank cover which is towards the n/s rear, then take the cap off, which if I remember correctly has a pipe running into it, connect the pipe to the bottle, put the end in the tank and squeeze.

Forte now do a DPF cleaner and regenerator, it helps the filter regenerate and cleans also. We put some in our C5 estate which sometimes gets hesitant between DPF regenerations, it worked a treart. Our C5 estate does a lot of town driving, despite covering 14-16K a year, so it doesn't get as much chance to do a regen. as my motorway used C5 hatch does.
