C5 HDi 2lt To 'Catalyse' - or NOT??!!...
Hi Guys...OK it's down to the wire with this sob of a C5!!...I have decided to bite the proverbial and dispense with the Catalyser...BUT...not sure how to do this??...I could just cut it out of the front down pipe and insert a piece of straight s/s pipe or maybe just drill a big hole through the guts of the box or simply knock the innards out of it altogether??...anyone done this or know the accepted procedure??...I am looking to get rid of the back pressure created by a 'blocked' catalyser and before you ask, 'no' I cannot afford a complete new exhaust - I live in Ozz and they charge an arm and two legs for a C5 exhaust here, mongrels!!!...any help much appreciated...kind regards dizzy

Hi Dizzy, you cannot simply remove the catalyser, I assume you mean the dpf, which sits behind the cat in the rear section of the split exhaust box.
The cheapest way to get rid of the blockage is to drill two 15mm holes through the honeycomb. Obviously this will render it useless as a filter, but will improve your performance quite a bit if it's blocked.
Any more significant than this will require a software modification , or the fault / engine light will come on and performance will be lowered by the Ecu.

Re: C5 HDi 2lt To 'Catalyse' - or NOT??!!...
Heh 'Lightly'...thanx for that info...BUT...I do NOT have a dpf (I think??), I simply have a cat box in my one piece exhaust system - from manifold the pipe goes down under the car and starts it's horizontal journey to the rear almost as soon as it goes horiz' the cat box is there, welded in place and about 8-10" in dia and about the same length and then after the cat box the pipe simply goes to the rear where it it welded to the rear muffler (a huge silencer box) and then the downward pointing tailpipe...the whole exhaust system is a one piece construction...so if I cut the pipe at the rear of the cat box and either drill some large holes in the actual catalyser stuff inside or knock it all out altogether and then rejoin the cat box to the pipe going to the rear muffler what will the result be??...there are NO sensors, no electronics of any description connected to the exhaust anywhere??...thanx a mill for your help...PS this is a 2lt HDi with NO particulate filter, no olys fluid, no FAP, no nothing apart from what I have said above, hope that helps??

You're right jgra1 they don't, unless the Aussie spec is different which I doubt.

I would concur, I have a 8valve 2.0 Hdi in my 406 and a 16v 2.2 in my C5, the C5 does have Dpf the 406 doesn't and the same applies to the 2.0 C5.

On early cars ONLY The 2.2 16v had DPF, the 8v engine was just a cat..
If your removing CATs beaware that MOT rules in the UK specify if a Cat was fitted it now HAS to be there for an MOT - but Im told LPG Gas petrol cars excepted as long as they are tested on LPG.
So, Id be a bit warey, unless you have a nice kind MOT man

Re: C5 HDi 2lt To 'Catalyse' - or NOT??!!...
Hi guys...and thank you muchly for all your comment, appreciated...OK now to my C5 2lt HDI it definitely does NOT have a particulate filter it has a cat and I know this for sure as I have just cut the exhaust pipe in half just aft of the cat box and drilled 5 x 22mm holes in the catalyser inside the box, thus I now have less back-pressure and hopefully this will get rid of that annoying "Anti-Pollution Fault" message and if it doesn't, well at least I will have picked up a few horses along the way!!...the Ozzie spec C5's are really nothing different to the European RH drive cars...as well as this I have used 2 blanking plates to blank off the EGR function, the result of which is again to thwart the AP Fault message and to achieve a faster turbo spool up - why would you 'Recycle Exhaust Gases' anyway???...OK will keep you all in the loop when it all back together and operational again...once again many thanx...dizzy
