Xantia wiring diagrams wanted please *Speedometer working!*

Post by mirafioriman »

Looking to find or see some Xantia wiring diagrams.

As part of my electronic speedo conversion I'm looking for a wiring diagram.

The sender unit and speedometer both only have three wires so it should be easy enough to wire up but I'd much rather see what wire goes where.

I've got a Haynes manual but I can't seem to see any wiring diagrams for the electronic speedo.

The haynes wireing diagrams are of useual "typical" cuircuits, and not dedicated ones, even though the FULL key is in the book!

I recall them NOT having the diagram with the electronic speedo printed, unless its combined into another cuircuit that has the Instrument panel in it.

Currently the centre pin of the speed sensor is earth. The two other pins on each side are currently dead at all times. I've tried plugging everything in and the speedo doesn't work so there is at least one wire missing somewhere :(

Although not a direct answer to the OP question. Interesting as I'm about to embark on fitting an electronic monitoring system to my Xantia to see if fitting hyrdogen is good option. My guess is like Chris570 says, a pulse, I will need to look closer. I also want to get access to the ECU to see what other info I can get. I'd like realtime info from the lambda sensor etc.

Something worth thinking about, is the speed sensor actually producing pulses as it may not be just as simple as speedo cable out and sensor in.

if pin2 is earth it must be this way round....

pin1 switched 12v
pin2 earth
pin3 speed pulse to clocks/ecu

if you run a continuity test from pin3 to the clock plugs you'll probably find it

Thanks for everyones help so far :)

Would still like to see a wiring diagram if possible I'm interested to see exactly how it is wired up. For example does the power to the speed sensor come from the dash cluster or somewhere else etc.

Could someone with a working electronic speedo (for example on a car they are breaking for spares) test the speed sensor multiplug to verify what comes from each terminal? I'm going to look at my 'spare' electronic speedo dash now to see where the three wires that go to the speedo head end up on the dash cluster multi plugs.

Been looking at the dash tonight. It looks like one of the three wires to the speedo goes to the fifth pin from the left on the red connector block. This could be the trigger wire perhaps. Need to check my loom next to see if there is a wire there.

I know where this is located on the xantia as I found the multi plug to it and disconnected it on the scrapyard car I got the transducer from. I bet my Xantia has the plug but not the unit

Back to the yard to get it at the weekend :)

Umm, I'll check but I've never been aware of any Xantia having such a device. I may be wrong but I believe the item in that ebay ad is in fact the Bitron Controller for the cooling fans on A/C equipped cars... It lives under the N/S headlight.

I'll dig out the wiring diagrams later.
