Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

this is if you dont have a sphere test rig at your disposal,

here is an easy method to get a basic idea how flat or not your spheres are with them removed,

slide a thin staight piece of stiff wire ( like locking wire ) into the hole at the working end of the sphere,

depending on how far it goes in is how flat or not your sphere is,

Hey all,
have a problem with the heater controls on the xantia: they don't light up, at all. Now, the heater controls have actually been replaced, as the previous unit was faulty, the lever on the heater blower direction selector had snapped off, leaving the direction stuck at the far left on face only.

Hi Guys,

I have a 2000 reg HDi Exclusive Estate (Hydractive II) which I purchased recently. I have changed all eight spheres and I'm currently running Total LHM Flush. I have also recently bleed all the breaks to sort out the typical rear rising dramatically during braking, glad that's sorted now!

The problem I'm having is with the rear...

First time Citroen owner here. I have a 98 2.1TD Xantia which has been pretty much flawless for 3 years (still on its original back tyres!). The car has done 70k.

Sounds like a problem with one of the ABS sensors. A Lexia should give you more clues. I recall a few post on hear about the ABS cutting in during normal braking, i think DickieG had this issue. Was it not to do with the spacing of the ABS sensor or something?

After a 5 year gap, I'm back in a citroen, a 2002 C5 V6 auto. I have had quite a few niggly jobs to do, most of which are done but a couple I am struggling with.

Hi there,

My 2002 C5 2.0hdi is acting up a bit.
1) The radio changes its stored channels everytime the engine is turned off.
2) When you turn the car off the suspension raises for some reason?

Would anyone be able to offer help as to why these are happening?

Height correctors are on a linkage to the anti-roll bars, front and rear.

It is highly unlikely that the bumper damage has any connection with the height corrector unless a piece has broken off at speed and impacted the front one.

The HCs are electronic. There are no hydraulic pipes attached as with previous systems.
Try unplugging the connector...

Mk.1 Xantia PLIPs are a doddle... Any other Mk.1 Xantia PLIP IR type, can be programmed to a Mk1 car... So get one - making SURE its a Xantia one from Ebay...

Mk1 PLIPs were still available from the dealer a couple of years ago.

Hello, I've looking for some adivce to help a garage diagnose a problem I have.
I can hear a squeak/groaning noise coming from the rear suspension when driving over bumps, or when the suspension settles after stopping. I thought it might be brake related as it sounds a bit like when you start to move on a hill when you let your foot off the brake...

I think my car may have suffered this problem as per the usual symptoms

The rear wont rise unless i put it in to maximum height and only then will it stay up :roll:

So can someone confirm if it is the dog bone i cant think of the correct name :oops:

Is it easy to fix?

I think I've got air getting into my diesel,and it seems to be getting worse.
A few weeks ago the first symptoms were it felt like it was running out of diesel ie.losing power intermittently for a second or two and then running ok,it was VERY low at the time so I assumed that I'd been lucky to get to the petrol station.

all I did when I had diesel leaking out of the bottom of the filter housing was to dismantle the filter housing from the engine, remove the thermostat by prising out the spring washer and pulling out with a pair of long nosed pliers and sourcing replacement 'O' rings from a local bearing factors for pennies. hello all,i have a aussie spec xm fitted with a eurovox radio
model 7479,does anyone know if there is any part that is supposed
to be illumanated on the facia other than the square on the left showing

also it has two holes either side of facia,do i insert metal rods or

Don't know that radio but I can confirm that the holes in the front are for removing the radio, if you bend a piece of wire coat hanger into a 'U' shape and push the ends in about 3 it should release the catches and you can then pull the radio out.

The 1.6HDi C5 Design spec does not have a FAP filter, or so the literature says.

Every other 1.6HDi C5 does, as well as the other diesels in the facelifted C5s.

My 97 CT Turbo estate has suffered from battery drain when left unused for a period (2-3 weeks or so). I discovered a high drain to the alarm system (Fuse 17) so disconnected that some ago, and it seemed much better. I am finding the ride quality in my 2002 N7 Xsara 2litre automatic intolerably firm and bouncy... It seems to be particularly bad in the rear, and freeway driving in particular is horrible as it does a really irritating bouncing motion.

In short, it rides like a new Corolla - not a french car... :roll:

hi all,

got my car back from dealer after suspension issue was sorted.

now in 3rd and 4th gear the revs are dropping when accelerating, its strange, revving freely then you can hear it dip and then continue.

any ideas ? MAF sensor perhaps ? :?:

Below what outside temperature are the glow plugs activated? For how long do they remain heated?

Where do they get their temperature information from? I'm thinking of when there has been a big temperature swing, with the engine block being either much colder or much warmer than the atmosphere.

Hey guys,

I'm looking to change the tail lights on my S1 Xantia to S2 Clear ones. They haven't done the usual thing like most sinkers do where the tail lights go cloudy, but I think the rear end of an S2 looks much tidyer and more appealing.

I thought I'd ask as Citroen being Citroen probably used a hammer and nail to hold the S2 Tail lights...

Returned on Thursday from trip to UK. Total round trip = 1630miles.

The coincidence was that when we left home here I reckoned the mileometer would be around 60000 miles when we got to my Mum's house in March (Cambs.).

Without cheating in any way it was a shock to see the miles click up to 60000 exactly as we drove into her parking space. So...

My current HDi clocked 100k on the Forth Road Bridge - and I only occasionally go there :lol:

I've had 3 Xantia breakdowns (clutch clip, brake pipe, exhaust) and all have happened within striking distance of home, so no need for recovery.

Just wondering if anyone knows what the part code is for a 2003 c5 hdi vtr, for the windcreen washer level sensor, service.citroen list two parts number as follows

Have a look at the plate on the A post of the drivers door. It should be stated there, if my memory serves me right. Do not think they are on the bulkheads of C5s, but I stand to be corrected.

My 1.8 16 v stopped while at traffic lights late last night in the rain

and would not restart. People kindly pushed me into a filling station .
It may have happened while coasting into the lights certainly more than 1200 rpm and there was no noise apparent until attempting to start.
no real complaint ( 225.000 on the clock)

as long as the second cam continued to rotate in sink with the crank, it will not have bent any valves on that bank,

but i suspect as the one sprocket was doing its own thing it will upset the belt timming,

it normal for there to be a clicking noise after startup, a suspension noise I'm talking about not engine related tallies etc. I believe its a pump?

When you do change the spheres, take note of the LHM's colour.
I replaced a friend's rear spheres this morning and his LHM was dark brown instead of the predator blood green that fresh LHM is.
His car had done just over 100K and never had it's LHM changed let alone flushed with hydrarincage (hydroflush) despite being dealer serviced throughout...

every now and then when the electrovalves open the front will sink about 2-3 inches and then pump back up. it doesnt matter if the engine is running or not as its done it coming out of a corner before and also when opening the door.

any ideas as with it doing it when driving i'd say its getting on the verge of dangerous....

Chris, there are two possibilities here...

Either, your front hydractive sphere my be ruptured. It's a three layer one usually and these are either perfect or flat/ruptured with no leeway; they can go suddenly.

Or, you have a pressure regulation fault/lazy pump which is causing your front anti-sink valve to close whilst on the move and the sink...

I think I've got air getting into my diesel,and it seems to be getting worse.
A few weeks ago the first symptoms were it felt like it was running out of diesel ie.losing power intermittently for a second or two and then running ok,it was VERY low at the time so I assumed that I'd been lucky to get to the petrol station.

Bottom pulley fell apart on my hdi so have replaced it with new. Refitted the old belt as i forgot to buy another one, belt has about 5k miles on it.

No matter how much tension i put on the eccentric tensioner i cannot stop the belt making a horrible noise on idle! Sounds like a blowing exhaust. The belt is flapping between the crank pulley and...

Has anyone had a stainless exhaust system fitted to their Xantia? If so, how much did you pay and who did it?

I phoned a Powerflow franchise today and was given a rough quote of £325. Just trying to get a general idea of costs (maybe Longlife or others are cheaper) as the Activa needs one before it goes back on the road. At least with a stainless...

Hi All,
Does anybody know if the outdoor temp. sensors (mounted in the passenger door mirrors) on the C5 & Xantia are one and the same or can be inter-changed? They probably fit but will the resulting read out be accurate?

I am going to change the timing belt and water pump on my Citroën Jumper (I believe it is called a Relay in the UK). It is a 2001 2.5tdi and is a motorhome. I have a repair manual for it similar to a Haynes but living here in France of course it is all in frogspeak, no problem...

Many thanks to adam for all his help this morning with his lexia.(top man) we have come to the conclusion the non starting of my berlingo is due to the egr valve and the throttle valve not having synchronised voltages. The EGR valve does not appear to be working. . we got this fault code as the main permanent one .

Odd question but have a '00 xantia HDi LX and i can't work out what position 1 is for on the wiper stalk??

I've been told the LX didn't have rain sensitive wipers so that only leaves intermittant with possible variable speed setting?
Because it sure as won't do anything if i just leave it there if its raining or not???

Anybody have any ideas on...

Cars with Auto Wipers, as said above, the intermittent AND Wash Timer is controlled through the rain sensor! IF on an auto wiper car the Intermittend AND Washer Park settings DO NOT work its the Rain sensor at fault, or...

Is it possible to test a MAF sensor ? and if so how do you do it.

The MAF sensor is from a 1.4 hdi engine and is a SIEMENS 5WK9631.

Try attaching a volt meter across the outputs I have a 0-12v meter attached and look on it as a vacuum gauge it has been in place for the last 2 years approx 5v on tick-over dropping to next to nothing on full throttle.

Folks, I am considering whether to replace (repair?) the external temperature sensor of my car, as it is giving wildly pessimistic readings since the extreme cold we had this winter.
Where is the sensor located, and is it something that can be easily replaced or perhaps fixed?

I have a mark 1 xsara 1.4 2000 model, i changed the thermostat and coolant last year so i am happy that it is reading correctly, these are the sort of readings on the gauge

In town when fully warmed up about 80C

When on the motorway it fluctuates between 80 and 90 although mostly sits between the middle of 75 and 90 i.e. around 83

I readn somewhere recently that MAF sensors should be replaced about every 50k or so and failing to do so could lead to diminished performance.
Mine has never been replaced in 11 years and has done well over 200k.
So I though I'd give the cleaning a go.
I just removed the top of the airfilter housing and unscrewed the intake hose, disconnected...

As promised, the result of the 1st tank since cleaning the MAF.
750 miles before reserve light came on.. that should give me a range of about 850 or so for the tank on the country roads of Aberdeenshire.
Thats an improvement of between 50-80 miles on a tank.
Well worth the money for the cellulose thinners.
