the rear pads are probably overhanging the discs because of the caliper to arm corrosion look in the searches there is plenty of info on this subject

not sure about that side of things sure one of the electrical boffins will be able to help you with that. or have a lexia session that might tell you something. not sure where you are located. if you look in the supersticky it will tell you where all the people are that have one or if your near here i can do it for you

Rear pads should locate by pin through caliper and pad so they cannot be misaligned and caliper is secured so unless you have pin or bolt missing it must be right.

Some after market linings may come closer to the pin. I trust when you say 2 sets you don't mean different manufacturers pads within a caliper or different sides otherwise dangerous. They may seem fine in normal use but mixing pad suppliers in a caliper or axle can snatch under emergency braking causing a spin which the ESP cannot cater for.

Electrics, fist action is to try a re-set of the BSI by battery disconnection. (see stickys on this site on how to do it. - not just disconnect and reconnect. (30 min job...most of which is standing around clock watching!!

the problem with the rear brake calipers on a c5 is corrosion where the calipers join the rear arm it is a well documented problem it has nothing to do with the fitting of the pads. mine are exactly as you discribe yours and this is the problem with mine.

Hello Eric,

The problem with the brakes has been documented, and is common to Xantias and C5s. It can be resolved, but takes time and care. Unfortunately, as you have a C5, you probably are going to need a blowtorch as Citroen seem to believe that threadlock is a brilliant idea (boy, did they get that wrong! ).

I have had this with both the Xantias I have owned, and all I needed was the right tools and time and care.

I hope that this link helps (even though it is for Xantias). You need to get this done before it gets much worse, as the calipers may get pushed onto the rear disks, which will damage them (expensive). Something I intend to do in the near future is to shape a piece of plastic bottle to fit between the trailing arm and the caliper to act as a gasket and prevent re-occurance of the corrosion. It needs to be thin so as not to unbalance the brakes.

I hope that this link may help with the ECU/BSI issues.
