Xantia 1996 1.9TD fuel sender ECU or wires destination?

Post by romie »

Hi fellow Citroen owners..

Anyone know where the wires end up from the fuel sender?

I assume it goes into an ECU somewhere as the two wires that come from the fuel sender that are green and green/yellow don't appear on the instrument cluster.

The fuel gauge has always intermittantly worked/not worked. I'm finally looking at it.

The fuel sender works. It goes from 0 to 288 ohms when the arm is actuated from one end to the other.

I need to trace the wiring back to ECU but I don't know where it is.

Many thanks, Romie

Hmm, the Haynes wiring diagram shows the senders wires going to earth and straight to the instrument cluster... I thought all these wires were a thinner gauge than the ones on the sender.. going to pull the instrument cluster out again :/

I only have some 406 diagrams (probably) no Citroen ones so probably not a lot of help. I don't think they show colours either just a wiring code.

I doubt it goes into any form of ECU at 1996, there is not really an ECU for the engine with the exception of the immobiliser and the pump advance control ECU (if fitted)

EDIT... Initially if you're sure the sender is working I'd suspect the gauge is next, possibly the nuts holding it to the panel have vibrated loose (can happen on a 306)

ah, think I've sussed it.

Don't know where but that green wire from the sender gets changed to a thinner gauge brown wire on the very left most side, (when looking at the front of the instrument cluster at all the different colour connectors), of the RED, (or ROUGE as it says on the PCB), multi way connector on the instrument cluster.

I reckon I can see a dry soldered joint on that pin :o)

Sweet, I'll have a gauge back for the first time in three years! :p

Ok, solved.

Ta, Romie

Hey spider, thanks for the reply, (as I was writing the last post), but I reckon soldering that joint will sort it.

Cheers!, Romie
